The Army Institute of Law (AIL), Mohali is soon emerging as a premier institute for legal

education in India. Within a short span, AIL has created a niche for itself in legal community.

The Management and faculty are committed to provide an enabling environment which is not

only conducive to all round professional and personal growth but ensures that our students

have the requisite domain knowledge and skills to meet the challenges and opportunities

which they are likely to confront.

The hallmark of our students remains their multilingual, multiethnic and multireligious

background being predominantly wards of Army personnel. They wear their pan Indian

signature on their sleeves. Therefore, they are not only living embodiment of the ethos

enshrined in our constitution, but are ideal material for the corporate world- confident and

street smart with the core competence of a legal professional, as also the promise and

potential to adapt to any setting with resilience. Being a residential institution, these attributes

are nurtured 24x7 over a period of five years so as to become a part of their DNA.

Going by the track record, our students have been picked up by the best legal firms of the

country. This is as much a commentary on the 'net worth' of our students as it is the

consummate skill of the employers who succeeded in homing on to the right talent. I am sure

as our students make their mark in their respective domain, the head hunters would have

The Army Institute of Law was established in 1999 under the aegis of Army Welfare

Education Society (AWES) and has in a short span of time emerged as a centre of

excellence for legal education. The institute was inaugurated by His Excellency, Dr. A.P.J

Abdul Kalam, and is located in Mohali, on the outskirts of the city of Chandigarh. It is

affiliated to the Punjabi University (Patiala) and is approved by the Bar Council of India.

History of AIL

When a drop of water falls into the ocean it loses its identity but when it falls on leaf of

lotus it sparkles like a pearl. The batch of 2006-2011 landed on a lotus called Army

Institute of Law, aspiring to shine and now stepping out as cultured pearls. Batch of 2006

-2011 is synonymous with zeal, fervour determination and perseverance to excel in the

legal field. This batch is a congregation of people excelling in various fields like

academics, sports and cultural activities, resulting in an overall developed personality.

“Aspire and Achieve”, being the motto of Army Institute of Law, every student of this

Institute is inspired to live up to it and is taught to “Fight to Win”. We believe in imparting

a culture where discipline, duty and professional excellence form the essence of

development. To rightfully balance these fundamental ingredients with the scales of

justice is the true spirit of advocacy, which we impart.

Seminars, Moot Courts and Projects are incorporated as a part of the curriculum which

assist in shaping the fundamental skills of oration, drafting and presentation. While the

curriculum sharpens the legal acumen of the students, they are also inspired to be

creative in their thought process.

The in-built scheme of internships with various law firms, corporate houses & lawyers

expose the students to the practical world. This professional approach blended with

sound theoretical knowledge forms the base of the students at AIL.

AIL has succeeded in creating a new set of professionals who not only have the best

qualities of a lawyer but also the virtues of a soldier.
