This Use Instruction Manual describes in detail procedures concerning operation andmaintenance of capping head to be followed by Operators and Assistance Technicians.

PURPOSE OF THIS USE INSTRUCTION MANUAL

The purpose of this Use Instruction Manual is to supply all personnel interacting with thecapping head with all information necessary to properly use and maintain its optimumconditions, especially under maximum safety conditions.

The structure of this Manual allows to easily identify sections concerning Operators andAssistance Technicians (see terminology in sub--paragraph 2.2., page 5).

Each part of the manual concerning operators is marked by symbol

Each part of the manual concerning assistance technicians is marked by symbol

PRESERVATION

To properly preserve the Use Instruction Manual it is recommended to:

F Use the manual so that it is not deteriorated in any way

F Do not remove, add or revise any part of the manual; updating can only be carried out byAROL S.p.A.

F Keep this manual in a dry area, so that its duration cannot be affected

8. LUBRICATION

To lubricate its capping heads, Arol S.p.A uses the following grease:

J FIN FOOD GREASE 2 type--tested USDA -- H1

8.1. LUBRICANTS HOMOLOGATION ACCORDING TO USDA

In the U.S.A, the most strict rules and regulations about the food industry are enforced. UShomologations for lubricants which could be used in food and pharmaceutical industry areacknowledged at international levels

The homologation that ackowledges a product as food lubricant (Food grade lubricant) orspecial food industry lubricant is issued by USDA (United States Department ofAgriculture=Competent authority for agriculture). A condition for a food lubricant homologationis the demonstration that this lubricant has only substances to satisfy purity requirements ofGuidelines of security 21 CFR 178.3570 of FDA (Food and Drug administration=Competentauthority for foodstuffs and drugs). FDA issued a positive list of rawmaterials that could be usedin food lubricants formulas only.

According to USDA the homologation provide two cathegories: USDA -- H1 and USDA -- H2

J H1 these initials mark Food grade lubricants which are lubricants that could beused in every friction points of food and pharmaceutical industry machine andequipements, in which contacts between lubricantsand food considered technically inevitable

J H2 these initials mark lubricants recommended for general use in food andpharmaceutical industry, supposing that there are no contacts with food

9. PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

PROBLEM CAUSE SOLUTION

The cap screws badlyonto the bottle.

Incorrect closure grippers Use grippers suitable to the cap tohandle

Caps fragments intogrippers

Eliminate fragments into closuregrippers

Broken compensationspring

Replace broken broken spring witha new one. For replacement seeparagraph 3.3.2. at page 11.

The thread of the bottle andthe cap do not conform.

Check the correct correspondencebetween the bottle to handle andcaps to use

The cap is not com-pletely screwed on.

There is insufficient mag-netic clutching.

Increase the closing torque of thehead. For adjustment see sub--chapter relevant installed cappinghead

The caps slide in the clo-sure grippers

Check the wear of the grippers. Ifnecessary replace the grippers.g ppCheck that the closure grippers issuitable for the cap to be handled,if necessary replace the pincer witha suitable one.

Springs of heads are notworking.

Find the head with worn spring andreplace the spring. For replacementsee relevant sub--chapter about in-stalled capping heads.

Push the head body upward. It isnecessary to notice the elasticreaction of compensating spring

The cap is screwed tootightly.

Excesive magnetic friction Decrease the closing torque of thehead. For adjustment see para-graph relevant about installed cap-ping heads

Problems in cap dis-tribution.

The caps fall from the cap-ping head.

Insufficient grip pressure ofgrippers Adjust the grip pressure ofgrippers as described in paragraphabout the closure gripper installed

10. PRODUCTION CHECKS

DATA TABLE FOR CLOSURE APPLICATION

The use of the following table it is useful to check during the time the correct bottles cappingand the efficiency of the capping turret.

WARNING:

The capping check must be carried out after every hour of production.

For the compilation of the table proceed as follows: (see the example table at page 35):

a) Indicate, at the top of the table:

n the diameter of the container

n the volume of the container in litres

n the type of cap used

n the number of bottles per minute

n the number of capping turret heads

b) Indicate in the ”removal torsion” table:

n the reading given by the torquemeter, checking each individual bottle and, in the finalcolumn, the average value(eg: the values of the bottles 1, 13 and 25 are 20, 18 and 19respectively with an average value of 19 Lbs x inch).

n the reading given by the torquemeter, checking each individual bottle and, in the finalcolumn, the average value(eg: the values of the bottles 1, 13 and 25 are 20, 18 and 19respectively with an average value of 19 Lbs x inch).

The general average value, given by the example table is about 20 Lbs x inch.

If one or more of the values is distant from the average (in the example, bottles 4 and 7), checkthe torsion and functioning of the relevant heads (N° 4 and 7).

To adjust the heads see the relevant sub--chapter.

NOTE:

The values given in the example table are only examples. Adhere to the specific datagiven by the manufacturers of the caps.
