Light and liberty go together. —Thomas Jefferson A professional actor and theatre director with a history degree from Villanova University, Bill Barker has portrayed Thomas Jefferson in a variety of venues since his first appearance at Independence Hall in Philadelphia in 1983. With the same height, weight and general appearance as Mr. Jefferson, he has been cast as our nation’s third President in numerous productions, including the musical 1776.

Bill has contributed to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s Jefferson programs since 1993. He has performed at the White House, the U.S. Capitol, the National Archives, the U.S. Treasury, the U.S. Naval Academy, the Palace of Versailles, The Inns of Court in London, and throughout the U.S., Great Britain and France. He has presented for organizations including Monticello, the Remnant Trust, the Jefferson Legacy Foundation, the Federal Executive Institute, and the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies.

Often featured in magazines and nationally televised programs, Bill has received commendations from New Orleans, Philadelphia, St. Louis and Annapolis, as well as awards from the Hellenic Ideals Foundation, the Jefferson Legacy Foundation and the Vermont Humanities Council.
