Feeding Your Baby 8-10 Months Provided by: Inter Tribal Council of Arizona - July, 2009 As your baby grows and gets better at eating, you can start adding more texture to foods. At 8 – 10 months most babies can eat mashed and pureed foods. Here are examples of the different types of foods they may be able to eat by now: Fabulous Baby Cereal and Breads: • All types of plain baby cereal are great to try now. • Soft breads, plain bagels, rolls, crackers or dry cereal without sugar. Offer 100% whole grains when possible. Vegetables…yep, still messy: • Mashed vegetables • Cooked, soft, bite-size pieces Fruits…fun and colorful!: • Fresh, soft and peeled, such as bananas or mangos • Canned or jarred in water or light juice, such as pears and peaches • Soft, bite-size pieces, no seeds Powerful Protein Foods: • Well-cooked, bite size pieces of meat, poultry or fish • Mild cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt • Cooked beans, egg yolk Drinks from a cup: • Water, breastmilk or formula can all go in a cup. But don’t forget the breastmilk or formula! • Breastfeed as often as baby needs, usually 4-6 times a day or more. • If formula feeding, offer 22-26 ounces a day. • Offer breastmilk or formula in a cup. • Babies don’t need juice. Breastmilk or formula have all the vitamin C babies need. Foods to Avoid At this age, some foods can cause choking, allergies or illness. Avoid these foods until baby is a year old. Choking Foods Allergy Foods Hot dogs Hard, raw veggies and fruits Candy Popcorn Grapes Chips Nuts Peanut butter Seeds Peanut butter (until 2 years old) Shellfish Citrus fruit or juice Cow’s milk Egg whites Foods that May Cause Illness Honey

Your baby may eat more or less than this. Let her decide how much is enough. Some days she will eat more because she has little “growth spurts.”
