Feeding Your Baby8-10 Months

As your baby grows and gets better at eating, you can start adding more texture to foods. At 8 – 10 months most babies can eat mashed and pureed foods.Here are examples of the different types of foods they may be able to eat by now:

Fabulous Baby Cereal and Breads:•Alltypesofplainbabycerealaregreattotrynow.•Softbreads,plainbagels,rolls,crackersordrycerealwithoutsugar.Offer100%wholegrainswhenpossible.

Vegetables…yep, still messy:•Mashedvegetables•Cooked,soft,bite-sizepieces

Fruits…fun and colorful!:•Fresh,softandpeeled,suchasbananasormangos•Cannedorjarredinwaterorlightjuice,suchaspearsandpeaches•Soft,bite-sizepieces,noseeds

Powerful Protein Foods:•Well-cooked,bitesizepiecesofmeat,poultryorfish•Mildcheese,cottagecheese,yogurt•Cookedbeans,eggyolk

Drinks from a cup:•Water,breastmilkorformulacanallgoinacup.

But don’t forget the breastmilk or formula!•Breastfeedasoftenasbabyneeds,usually4-6timesadayormore.•Ifformulafeeding,offer22-26ouncesaday.•Offerbreastmilkorformulainacup.•Babiesdon’tneedjuice.BreastmilkorformulahaveallthevitaminCbabiesneed.

Foods to AvoidAtthisage,somefoodscancausechoking,allergiesorillness.Avoidthesefoodsuntilbabyisayearold.

Your baby may eat more or less than this. Let her decide how much is enough. Some days she will eat more because she has little “growth spurts.”

Quick Tips and Gentle Reminders:Only breastmilk, formula or water should go in a bottle.•Feedsolidfoodswithaspoon.Yourbabyneedstofeelandseeherfoods.Thiswillhelpherlearnandgrowbetter.

•Protectthoseteeth!Infantsunderoneyearshouldnothavejuiceunlessstatedbyyourbaby’sdoctor.

Your Baby is Smart:•Itisyourjobtoprepareandprovidehealthy,safefoodsforyourbaby.Butsheistheonewhodecidesifsheisgoingtoeatandhowmuchshewilleat.

•Watchandlistentoyourbabyclosely.Lethertellyouwhensheisfull.

*Breastfeed on demand – usually at least 4-6 times a day.
