The magpie is the only one of the ani-mals on the farm that doesn’t live on the farm itself, but up in the tree. She’s wondering – am I one of you? The an-swers she’s getting don’t make her any wiser: Well, you can stay here, but you’re not one of us, really …

The magpie is pondering – maybe she’ll be more welcomed somewhere else? No sooner thought than done – the magpie is moving. And then maybe the animals on the farm will realise that they have lost something they ac-tually appreciated.

Missing is a picture book coopera-tion between Trond, Kaia and Bendik Brænne, with illustrations by Per Dy-bvig. This is the fourth book about the animals on the farm.

Friends, No longer friends and Stranger already exist. Stranger was nominated fo the Brage award (open category) in 2010.

This is a subtle story about fear of the unknown. In Stranger we get another delightful story about the (not-so-friendly?) friends at the farm. This time a beaver comes to visit the farm, and it’s hard to say how the other animals will react. He can’t lay eggs, and his ears are too small. The other animals cannot understand what he is good for. But he may surprise them all …

The kids are wondering what the grown-ups are doing while they are asleep. The suggestions are many: they have a pillow fight in bed, they play PlayStation, and they drink soda pops and eat candy and go wild.

Alvin decides to find out if any of this is true. He stays awake at night, pre-tending to be asleep. He sneaks up on them, but all they do is watch TV. Alvin goes back to bed, but footsteps wake him up. It’s all starting now. Now, they are going to do what grown-ups do when the children are asleep.

Alvin is struggling. How is he going to get rid of El-vira, his annoying little sister who is constantly in the way, ruining things and stealing all the atten-tion? Should he sell her? Or maybe trade her? Alvin is unsure, but when he finally thinks he has solved the Elvira-problem, it turns out not to be such a great idea after all …

It’s Alvin’s birthday, and it’s got to be celebrated! He is going to be the king of the day. But with expecta-tions like that, it is bound to go wrong. Alvin can-cels the party, sends his guests home and is left with Rainer, the only person he didn’t want to invite. The strange thing is that it actually turns out to be a quite nice day.

Leonarda is a little girl who lives with her family in Mexico City. Her best friend is her sister Eva — but Eva is in the hospital, very ill. Every Friday Le-onarda goes with her mother to clean the floors of a large blue house. While her mother works, Leonarda walks around in the house, which is full of strange things and paintings that she is not allowed to touch. Many of the paintings are portraits of the same lady. One day the lady starts talking to Leonarda. Her name is Frida, and they start sharing secrets with each other.

What the heart remembers is a sim-ple and moving story of a child com-ing to terms with the reality of death, through an imagined dialogue with Frida Kahlo. The book is beautifully il-lustrated with collage pictures that in-corporates elements and motives from Kahlo’s own paintings.

Agnes is missing. A great search is ini-tiated. Her friend Rebekka gets a clue that makes her find Agnes, but Agnes makes her promise to come to the hid-ing place, and not to tell anyone about it. Agnes has run away, and tells a story: Her mother and Rebekka’s par-ents have lied about something during all these years. Her father is in prison, and he’s not a nice man at all, as the grown-ups always have remarked. Agnes’ revenge is to run away. And she wants Rebekka to come with her.

But it turns out that Agnes has a very different story to tell – and that story is about her desperate battle to hide her mother’s anxiety disorder. If Any-one Else is Lying Now is a novel about anxiety, compulsion, and how this af-fects the people surrounding it. The people who do anything in their power to cover up, normalize, hope.

It’s not sad and boring. On the contrary – it’s exciting, insightful, and dramatic. And it’s told with warmth and love to-wards the characters in the novel.
