Principal’s Report
Dear Families,
Congratula*ons Cate G
It was my privilege on Monday morning to aend the
funcon for the finalists of the ANZAC Day Poetry
Compeon insgated by Kelly O ‘Dwyer Member for
Higgins.
Cate was selected as a finalist in her age group along
with a couple of other students from other schools. It
was wonderful so see so many students who had
thought so deeply about the sacrifice made by the
ANZACS. Cate received a folder with the poem reprinted
along with a cerficate to mark her achievement. Here is
her poem.
ANZAC DAY
I walked out onto the bale field
Thinking that my fate was sealed
Guns exploded and men swore
As they stepped in piles of gore
Hurry up then someone called
I noced that she was bald
I shivered a lile then grabbed my gun
And set off to shoot someone
Bullets whizzed past me
This was not my cup of tea
But one crashed into my chest
One that was single from all the rest
I watched the day fold away
Never again would I happily play.

Ex – Ashy Student selected for the Ashes
While watching the cricket the other night ( the Test
form is my favourite) I was curious about Peter Nevill the
new wicket keeper. They said he was from Ashburton
and I wondered if there was a connecon. Thanks to
Maggie Stamoulis, the Branch Manager at the Bendigo
Bank we have found that Peter did in fact aend
Ashburton P S .
He made a noteworthy debut being selected for the
second Test at Lord's a7er Brad Haddin made himself
unavailable for selecon due to personal reasons. He
finished with 7 catches on debut, and 7 dismissals
overall, to be ed for second for catches overall, but an
Ashes debut record. He also scored 45 runs in the first
innings.
Bu1erfly Garden
A huge thank you to the Year 1 and 2 students that
helped plant the Buerfly Garden. While the wet
weather isn’t the best for playing it will certainly help
establish the garden. The area will be maintained by a
group of interested students , weeding and watering to
ensure we have an area that will aract different
creatures as the weather warms.
Daffodils to brighten our day.
Thank you to the Guthrie family who each year bring in
beauful daffodils from their grandfather’s farm. They
make a cheery addion to the office area and staffroom.
Prep Enrolments
Calling any siblings who haven’t enrolled yet. Enrolments
close soon so that we can start planning for next year. If
you have a child planning to start next year could you
please come along to the office and Melissa will help you
complete the enrolment forms so that we have you on
the books.
Interesng Earth Fact
Sea ice contains between a tenth and a hundredth as
much salt as seawater. You can melt it and drink it.
You can see the stars during the day from the boom of
a well.
It would take 80 Moons to equal the weight of the Earth.

Year 1 Minibeasts Wow! You can’t believe what I did? Yesterday morning at school, Sarah
came in and told us so much about bugs, minibeasts and insects. I learned
about a type of worm that somemes lives in dog poo. If you get dirty
hands and you don’t wash your hands and you eat something the worm will
go into your body and eat all your energy. All you have to do to get the
worm out is go to the chemist and buy some worm tablets. There was a
leech. Leeches suck blood. You need a flame or salt to get rid of them.
There were yabbies. There was a middle sized one, a small one and a big
one. There was a really small insect, but it was long too. It was black and
sort of yellow. She brought two toy insects. It was a lice toy and a
mosquito. The three things on the body we were learning about were the
head, the thorax and the abdomen. I really enjoyed having Sarah at school.
Sam 1TD
Yesterday, Sarah Quin came to talk to us about Minibeasts! I liked doing the
acvies she gave us. Sarah showed us what a sck insect looks like. I found
the talk interesng.
Janelle 1SN
Spiders have eight legs. Female sck insects have bumps on them but male
ones don’t. I got to see a tapeworm. Insects have an exoskeleton and we
learnt about leeches.
Lachie G 1LC
Sarah’s minibeast talk was very informave and precise. Sarah showed us a
mosquito, a louse and some tapeworms. Isaac 1ET
