ASIA SOCIETY DINNER AT BARBARA TOBER’S

PARK AVENUE RESIDENCE

TO CELEBRATE ITS 50th Anniversary, Asia Society in conjunction with its special friends and patrons around the world presented ASIA ON MY MIND: ‘50 for the 50th’ Worldwide Benefit Dinner Series, a series of 50 fabulous dinner parties in cities worldwide where Asia Society has a centre. Each dinner featured at least one celebrity guest-of-honour and was hosted in an exclusive and intimate location, providing a unique opportunity for patrons to rub elbows with personalities from the world of art, philanthropy, business and politics whilst indulging in their love for Asia. These dinners were held from mid-May through July.

Events in New York included parties at the private homes of Asia Society patrons and special friends at the 5th Avenue home of Barbara Tober, the cavernous Soho loft of Naeem Khan, the elegant home of Terresa Liu and Richard Snyder where we met Ang Lee, Maya Lin and Lisa Lu, and uber-fashionable eateries such as Indochine. On a recent evening at Indochine, after greeting hosts Carrie Cloud, Ida Liu and Dennis Wong, I enjoyed some spirited cocktails and conversation with designers Vivienne Tam, Peter Som, supermodel Ling Tan, supermodel and actress Irina Pantaeva, the ubiquitous Susan Shin, Mona Wyatt, John Schutty and Jennifer Suh.

Asian culture has indeed become intertwined with American life in areas including home design, fashion, the

culinary arts and media.
