Follow us on:
We see innovation and disruption in every sphere of our lives. Schools are open to
adaptive learning structures which allow students to control their own learning journey
(student agency) whist learning and collaborating with their classmates. This stream
will explore some of these innovations in education and provide educators with practical
ideas.
Planning and building a new school in any part of the world is challenging, but in Asia we see a growing demand for international schools that offer alternative education. Where are the potential investors? And what are the best practices to those planning a new project. In this stream we will explore market data and analyse where the best opportunities lie.
Our understanding of the human brain, how it works and how we process new information is getting better all the time. In this stream we will look at the science of the brain and translate this into practical learning situations where small changes can often result in big improvements in learning and knowledge retention.
Inclusive education is supported by the United Nations as a matter of human rights and social
justice. The IB Curriculum defines Inclusion as an ongoing process that aims to increase access and
engagement in learning for all students but how are schools and teachers implementing this? This stream
will explore the very best thinking on how to achieve total inclusion in the classroom and deep-dive
workshops to help educators really make a difference.
Dr Jared Cooney Horvath (PhD, MEd) is an expert in the field of Educational Neuroscience with a focus on enhancing teaching and learning practices. He has conducted research and lectured at Harvard University, Harvard Medical School, the University of Melbourne, and over 100 schools internationally. Jared has published 5 books, over 30 research articles, and his work has been featured in numerous popular publications, including The New Yorker, The Atlantic, WIRED, The Economist, and ABC’s Catalyst. He currently serves as Director of the Science of Learning Group: a team dedicated to bringing the latest in brain and behavioral research to teachers, students, and parents alike. In this interactive keynote, participants will first learn how to situate the ‘Science of Learning’ and research within classroom practice. From there, he will explore how the brain works to make sense of reality. Often surprising and counterintuitive, knowing how the brain truly functions will help clarify many thoughts and behaviours we encounter every day.

Innovation in Education
Asia-PacificInternational SchoolsConferenceThe objective of Asia-Pacific International Schools Conference (AISC) is to bring together the international schools community to explore topical education issues that educators within Asia Pacific international schools are keen to debate.
Science of Learning: The BIG Ideas
Professor Rose Luckin is an education expert who has been developing and writing about the Learning Sciences, Educational technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education for over 20 years. She is a professor at Learner Centred Design at UCL Knowledge Lab in London and her research involves the design and evaluation of educational technology using theories from the learning sciences and techniques from Artificial Intelligence (AI).In this keynote, she will lead us to explore how AI could help measure different things beyond knowledge, including collaboration, persistence, confidence, and motivation, followed by her explanation on how to assess students continuously with a computer, phone, or tablet using tools to evaluate aspects of students' social, interdisciplinary and multiple meta intelligences, and how the results could provide a more accurate portrait of what students can do. she will also examine how the comprehensive illustration of student strengths and weaknesses could facilitate students to improve faster and focus on core skills.
