  • The Asian-Pacific Weed Science Society, a non-profit professional society, promotes research, education, and extension outreach activities related to weeds; provides science-based information to the public and policy makers; and fosters awareness of weeds and their impacts on managed and natural ecosystems in the Asian-Pacific Region. Over the last half a century of its existence, the Society has been organizing biennial conferences in different countries of the region in association with the national societies and participation from the member countries. It is a matter of great

    thprivilege that the Indian Society of Weed Science has the honour of organizing the 25 APWSS Conference in India. This prestigious Conference was last held in India in 1981 at Bangalore.

    thThe 25 APWSS Conference will provide an excellent opportunity to all stakeholders dealing with different aspects of weeds to share their ideas and learn from international experiences. Agricultural scientists, teachers, students, extensional workers, administrators, policy makers, non-governmental organizations, executives from the herbicide industry and others associated with environment and biodiversity conservation are invited to participate in the Conference.

    thThe 25 APWSS Conference will be held at the Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University, Hyderabad, India from 13-16 October, 2015. The venue is located at 20 km away from the Rajiv Gandhi International airport and 15-20 km from different railway stations in Hyderabad.

    Hyderabad is the capital of a newly-created Telangana state and the fifth largest city in India, with an ancient civilization and culture. The city is nearly 400 years old and is noted for its natural beauty, mosques and minarets, bazaars and bridges, hills and lakes. It is perched on the top of the Deccan Plateau, about 2000ft above sea level, and sprawls over an area of 100 sq. miles. The places of interest include Charminar, Mecca Masjid, Golconda Fort, QutabShahi Tombs, Spanish Mosque, Chowmahalla Palace, Falaknuma Palace, Birla Mandir, Salar Jung Museum, Statue of Buddha amid the Hussain Sagar Lake, etc. International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University, Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, National Academy of Agricultural Research Management,

    Directorates of Research on Rice, Sorghum, Oilseeds, Poultry, Meat, and several other agricultural research organizations are located in Hyderabad.

    Hyderabad is located in south central part of India, and is well connected by air with many international and national destinations. It is also well connected by rail from several major cities of the India including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru. In the month of October, the weather will be quite pleasant with mean

    0maximum and minimum temperatures of 30 C and 20 C, respectively. Normally rains are not expected during the month. Pre-conference tours to major tourist attractions in South India and sight-seeing in and around the city will be organized.

    On request and on payment basis, arrangements for accommodation will be made by the organizers. A wide range of hotels are available within a short distance from the Conference venue. Organizers have negotiated for attractive tariffs in a few selected hotels. Information about accommodation in hotels and provision for online reservation will be made available soon. The accommodation will also be arranged in various government guest houses located near the venue. Student participants will be accommodated in university hostels around the venue.

    The Conference will provide an ideal platform for sharing of knowledge and expertise by the scientists and other stakeholders from about 50 countries of the region. This will involve invited keynote and plenary lectures by renowned scientists, administrators and policy makers, oral presentations, poster presentations, award lectures, exhibitions, field visits, excursions etc. Special programmes are being planned for students.
