Translators NoteAfter a long and persistent team effort, we have the honour ofpresenting to our readers/benefactors the English version ofthe third of ve volumes ofAsm al-Nabi al-Karm |,incorporating the original Arabic and Urdu translation. Thiscorresponds to the book printed and published under the closeeditorial supervision of Mian Muhammad Sha Gondal at Dr-ul-Esn (Faisalabad, Pakistan) on15 Shabn al-Muazzam1398 AH (21 July 1978 CE). The rst drafts of the basictranslation into English were accomplished by Imtiaz Ahmad

Quraishi with the help of Professor Ghulam Nabi Saqeb. Thetext has also received the careful attention of Dr Abdul Wahab,Qari Muhammad Khan, and Professor Muhammad Zaman, byway of crosschecking the translation, ascertaining referencesand verifying grammar and syntax. Sajeda Maryam Poswalassiduously gone through and improved upon the English textof the successive manuscripts. All along brother Imdad AllAhmad Poswal has applied his essential skills and has nallyset the whole by computer graphics. The Arabic and Urducalligraphy of the original book, corrected where needed forthis edition, has been done in hand by Late Haz MuhammadYousuf Sadidi whom the author most kindly honoured with

the title ofRas al-Qalam. May his soul rest in abiding peace!Amin! Lest we forget thanks to Al-Haj Mian MuhammadSaeed Kamboh and Abdul Razzaq Zaki are recorded for theinvaluable help and directions on preliminary artwork andprinting processes.

The reader will notice that we have copied MawlanaAbdullah Yusuf Alis translation for theQurnic references, and have attempted our own for the remaining Arabicreferences. This is because with the exception of thosequotations of theadth from the collection ofMuwaa ofImam Malik , the remainder were found either lackingor unavailable in English.

The ground rules followed in the transliteration of non-English words are a hybrid of both the British and Frenchsystems and a key of the two alphabets mainly used for writing

It was discerned of him henceAllh the Almighty revealed the Verse as in Srah Al-Qiymah(the Resurrection) which begins I do swear by the Day of

Resurrection 75:1,Move not your tongueConcerning the (Qurn)To make haste therewith. It is for Us to collect it (the Qurn) (in your mind),And give you the ability to recite it by heart.

    -(Al-Qurn 75:16-17)

arat Ibn Abbs added: The Verse It is for Us tocollect the (Qurn) (in your mind) and give you the abilityto recite it by heart means; When we recite it, follow itsrecital, listen to it as We reveal it. The Verse It is for Us

A-hir means to be free from (all forms of) un-cleanlinessand lth. It is the active participle (fil)of purity (ahrah).

It is as some have said: Purity here can be used in twodifferent ways; to describe outward purity that can be seen orto describe the inner purity of the essence. The rst refers tocleanse ourselves from the visible forms of impurity and thesecond to be free from invisible impurities, i.e. blameworthyconduct and to adorn ourselves with praiseworthy conduct. The Almighty Allhs Messenger | was blessed withimpeccable behaviour and was known as A-hir, becauseevery aspect of purity was present within him. Allh theAlmighty had cleansed all aspects of his personality, visibleand invisible, and had puried himself both inwardly andoutwardly.
