MIAMI — A Malayan tiger attacked and killed a veteran keeper Friday afternoon at a South Florida zoo, officials said.

Stacey Konwiser, 38, was killed by the 13-year-old male tiger in an enclosure known as the night house that is not visible to the public, Palm Beach Zoo spokeswoman Naki Carter said. It’s where the tigers sleep and are fed.

The tiger was tranquilized and authorities had to wait until the sedative took effect before they could come to Konwiser’s aid, West Palm Beach police spokeswoman Lori Colombino said.

Media reports said guests were herded into the gift shop for a short time out of an abundance of caution. Police also confirmed that the tiger was in a contained area and guests were not at risk.

“At no time was any guest or visitor in danger. At no time was any animal loose,” Carter said.

The zoo said it will remain closed Friday, and Carter said they will make a determination about Saturday later.

Zoo officials said Konwiser’s husband was also a zoo keeper there. Grief counselors had been sent in for the staff, and zoo officials said they were reaching out to Konwiser’s family members, who live out of state. They declined to comment on whether there had been other incidents with the tiger.

One of the most exciting

movies of 2015 was The

Martian, nominated for best

picture at this year’s 88th

Academy Awards. Based on

the popular Andy Weir

novel, The Martian is about an

astronaut stranded on the Red

Planet after a windstorm

drives his crewmates away.

The XKCD webcomic devoted

an installment to The

Martian in June, summing up

the plot as "the scene in Apollo

13 where the guy says 'We

have to figure out how to

connect this thing to this thing

using this table full of parts or

the astronauts will all die" —

but lasting for the entire movie

instead of just a single scene.

It’s basically an extended story

about everybody “sciencing”

all the problems.

Watch a trailer for The Martian: It's not really a spoiler to say

that a man who has every

reason to believe he’ll be

stranded on Mars for years by

himself will need to create a

food supply. The

Martian shows how astronaut

and botanist Mark Watney,

portrayed by Matt Damon,

uses limited resources to

generate water from its

constituent elements, create

fertilizer from his own waste,

and grow a new crop

of potatoes from the small

supply he had in storage.

GROWING IDEAS LIKE POTATOES ON MARS

The protagonist is surrounded by

an environment that is utterly

hostile to life, yet he creates the

conditions necessary for

something new and life-

sustaining to grow.

his success to help change the

world for the better, but was

unsure how to proceed. He

originally considered a career in

convinced that he had to pursue

How to reactivate it?

In case you have not activated the PIN code during the registration process or you have accidently deactivated your Pin functionality, the holder has to visit the nearest registration center. No appointment is required. The card holder has to notify the center supervisor to activate the PIN. Remember, you have to take your ID card during this process and you must yourself set the new four digit pin code.

Do you know your PIN code? Every resident of the UAE has it, as it comes to you with your Emirates ID with Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) mentioning the card holder has to protect their PIN Code. “Think of it like a key. Instead of unlocking the door to your house or car, your Pin unlocks the gateway to your personal information. We regularly lock our houses and cars, but too often, we’re careless about the ‘keys’ to our personal information and possibly soon our financial, health, and private information,” says the authority.

What is PIN Code? The PIN code is one of the means used to get access to the private data in your card and authenticate your identity. It consists of four digits and is recommended to be changed regularly (using Card reading program offered by Eida).

In the case of three false entry of your PIN code, the ID card deactivates this functionality. To reactivate it, the card holder has to visit the nearest registration center, or Eida kiosk machine.

New System to Improve Camel Racing A Master's student from the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology has capitalised on the latest technological advances in computer science and signal processing to innovate one of the UAE's oldest and cherished pastimes - camel racing.

Recognizing the novelty and potential commercial applications of the student-led innovation, Masdar Institute has filed a provisional patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the innovative camel monitoring system being developed by Saeed Alnofeli, an MSc student in the Engineering Systems and Management Programme.

The invention is based on Alnofeli's thesis research, titled "Customer Driven Product Development Process for Camel Monitoring System," which is focused on optimizing monitoring systems of a training platform that can be used to improve camel training and racing.

Camel racing is part of the UAE's rich heritage. As a centuries-old cultural tradition across the Arabian Peninsula, the UAE formalized the sport immediately after the country was founded.

Despite its popularity and cultural significance, Alnofeli believes that some aspects of the sport are a bit antiquated. "I found some challenges in the camel racing industry, including a poor understanding of the camel's health and how to improve camels' racing performance, which is what, motivated my research," Alnofeli said.

Robot jockeys, which were introduced in 2004, were the first technological advance in the sport and the first step towards improving communication between camels and their trainers.

The Best Book I Ever Read

Beatrice Prior lives in a future version of Chicago where there are five distinct factions. Each faction thinks one feature is best: Dauntless think bravery is keen, Erudite love knowledge, Abnegation is pro-self-sacrifice, Amity hearts friendship, and Candor is into telling it like it is. Beatrice grew up in an Abnegation family. But when she turns 16, she decides to join Dauntless.

The story talks about how Beatrice suffered living in the Abnegation fiction, and how she dealt with being “Divergent”.

If I Stay is about Mia and her brother (Teddy) and her mum and dad. One day in their lovely home state in America, it snows. And they are in a car crash. Mia's Mum and Dad die at the scene, and both her and Teddy are in a critical condition. What happens next is incredibly difficult to explain, so this is what I made of it.

Mia enters a state of… 'non-death' (?) and watches over as her body is operated on and transported from ward to ward until it ends up in the ICU. She watches as people come and go, watching her body. The rest of the book is based upon Mia reflecting over her life and what she's accomplished and achieved and answering the ultimate question: Should I Stay or Should I Go? (No reference to the song intended.)

would definitely recommend this book to anyone, but I also fail to see how this can be sensibly adapted into a feature length film. Some production company wants to do it though, so I'll be waiting to see that eagerly.

The novel was written by: Anne Tyler

The novel is a portrait of the Whitshank family across several generations. Denny, 19 when the story starts, something of a prodigal son, is reminiscent in his charming, maddening, potentially delinquent way – balanced bewilderingly yet convincingly between helpfulness and fecklessness – of Jack, the returning bad lot in Marilynne Robinson’s Home. Tyler is in the top rank of American writers, and moments in this novel have an affinity with Canada’s Alice Munro too. But what she has that neither Robinson nor Munro possess to the same degree is an irrepressible sense of the comedy beneath even the most melancholy surface – or sometimes peeking just above it – in human affairs. Tyler is good on irony too. The son who has most tormented his mother most colonises her heart. Not that Denny registers Abby’s favouritism, having spent a life feeling jealous of his adopted younger brother Stem. Abby, a social worker, married to Red, who works in construction, is the heart of the family and the novel. In her 70s, she is starting to unravel in small but alarming ways while staying defiantly her own person. As a social worker Abby used habitually to find a place for lame ducks at her table and still does, given half a chance. But now she is becoming a lame duck herself – and Denny has shown up to support her. The trouble is that Stem and his beautiful Baptist wife, Nora, have got there first. Abby gets infuriated by Nora’s presence and manner, asking herself why Nora persists in calling her “Mother Whitshank”: “It made Abby sound like an old peasant woman in wooden clogs and a headscarf.” I enjoyed reading this book because this novel left me with mixed emotions.

In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower is Proust’s spectacular dissection of male and female adolescence, charged with the narrator’s memories of Paris and the Normandy seaside. At the heart of the story lie his relationships with his grandmother and with the Swann family. As a meditation on different forms of love, In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower has no equal. Here, Proust introduces some of his greatest comic inventions, from the magnificently dull M. de Norpois to the enchanting Robert de Saint-Loup. It is memorable as well for the first appearance of the two figures who for better or worse are to dominate the narrator’s life—the Baron de Charlus and the mysterious Albertine

Drawings UAE compassion

"Huda snowstorm "

Done By: I had painted this painting last year supporting the UAE compassion campaign that was launched by his highness sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed to provide relief to victims of Huda snowstorm in the Levant region. The painting shows three children walking under the heavy snow and the freezing weather. It shows how people-especialy children- suffer the cold weather. And how they don’t have any choice but feel the pain.

Ghazal

Done By:

Almost five years after it began, the full-blown civil war has killed over 200,000 people, half of them were kids. Bombings are destroying crowded cities and horrific human rights violations are widespread. Basic necessities like food and medical care are sparse

I was searching on my paintrest account about the Syrian case, ghazl's photo stops me for a while, I start starring at her peaceful face after she leaved the world to a bitter place , whenever I look at her face I imagine her with green eyes , they got the color of the trees in paradise , they were bright and beautiful and I imagine her walking all the way to school!.

Heart-Breaking

Done By:

The fear in the little girl’s eyes as she bit her lip to stop herself crying has caused an outpouring of emotion about the “heart-breaking” image showing how “humanity failed” in the Syrian civil war.

It spread across social media in weeks after it was tweeted by a photojournalist in Gaza.

After I saw it I decided to change this little girl future on a canvas, the idea of my paining is to focus on the future of those young kids who didn’t get enough education in school as all the kids, but I drew this little girl holding a brush to give her the freedom to spread her dreams around the world and to build her own future full with what she need, even in this hard situation.

Surrealism Movement

Done By:

Women find that closing her eyes is the only way to reach to her dreams and touch her heart to stay as free as she was created to, carrying ability to escape from the reality, From sinking in a sea of Social pressures that lose her the thrill of freedom, even to get her own rights as a human, I chose the cloud to represent freedom which filled with hope that will take her from the unfair reality, and her dream to live in a world filled with all the love. At the end this painting represent the “Surrealism movement” which its works on creating strange creatures from everyday objects. And the apple in the surrealism language means the pure humanity.

Disclosing a manifest claw , proud

For the sake of seeking despair
