Function

When the cylinder valve (G1) and flame regulator (B) are open the gas flows through the gas hose (G7) and the flame regulator into the burner.

When the Piezo-igniter (A) is actuated a spark is emit-ted by the spark plugs on the burners (burner unit) that then ignites the gas.

The gas supply (= heat output) can be regulated and interrupted by using the flame regulators (B).

UtilisationIntended useThe Smoker is a gas grill apparatus for outdoor use. Intended use means only using the barbecue to pre-pare barbecue food, while observing and complying with all of the instructions in this manual.

This barbecue is only intended for private use.

Unintended UseAny other use or application extending beyond the intended purpose is not permitted. This applies in particular to the following methods of improper use:

• SmokerDo not operate the cooker with charcoal or any fuel other than liquid gas (propane/buta-ne).

• Do not use the cooker as a heater.

• Smoker not to be used to heat materials and sub-stances other than food that is suitable for barbe-cuing.

Guarantee claims and warranty

Your Landmann-Smoker left the factory in perfect technical condition.

Any warranty and guarantee claims shall become void in the event of improper use of the barbecue or the use of non-approved fuels. Discolouration, rusting or slight deformation of parts exposed direct-ly to the flames (cooking grill, burners, burner cover, spark plug, etc.) do not impair the function of the barbecue and, as such, do not form a basis for any claims.

Please retain your receipt in case you need to make a warranty claim.

Residual risks

Danger: Hot surfaces and parts

During operation some parts of the barbecue can get very hot, particularly those near the burner.

Possible consequences:

• Severe burns from touching parts near the burners.

• Fire or smouldering if flammable materials or substances are in close proximity to the cooker.

Safety measures prior to grilling:

• When setting it up, make sure that

– there are not, and will not be, any flamma-ble materials or substances nearby. Mini-mum distance to flammable materials or substances: 2 m above and 1 m to the side. Distance to less flammable materials or sub-stances, e.g. walls: min. 0.25 m.

– that the Smoker is positioned firmly on a flat, sufficiently large surface area. It must not be moved during operation.

Safety measures while barbecuing:

• Wear protective barbecue gloves.

• Smoker never leave unattended. Take particu-lar care to ensure that children and pets are kept away from the Smoker.

General safety instructionsFailure to observe the following basic safety measures can cause severe injury to persons and substantial damage to property:

• The Smoker is only to be used as intended.

• Smokernever use if damage is visible

• never make technical modifications. Only Use only original spare parts by Landmann.

• Use only accessories that are expressly authorised for this barbecue (see the "Accessories" chapter; if in doubt please contact our customer service department).

• SmokerOnly use outdoors in a well ventilated area and above ground level (i.e. not in areas that are below the ground).

• Never leave the Smoker unattended when in use. Take particular care to ensure that children and persons with physical or mental disabilities keep well away from the barbecue, since they may not be able to identify the dangers correctly.

• Always wear grilling gloves when using the bar-becue.

• Small parts may be lethal if swallowed. Note that there is a danger of suffocation if the respiratory tract is covered by packing foil.

Danger: Gas is highly flammable

Liquid gas is highly flammable and explosive.

Possible consequences:

• Serious injury to persons or damage to proper-ty if escaping or accumulated gas ignites in an uncontrolled manner.

Safety measures:

• Only use the cooker outdoors and make sure the area is well ventilated.

• Protect the gas cylinder and the gas hose from direct sunlight and other sources of heat (max. 50°C). Take particular care to ensure that the gas hose does not touch any part of the hot barbecue.

• Close the valve on the gas cylinder immediate-ly when you finish using the Smoker.

• When connecting the gas cylinder make sure that there are no sources of ignition within a 5 m radius.

Take special care not to light any naked flames, do not smoke or switch on electric appliances (devices, lights, door bells), etc. (spark-over possible).

• Before each use, make sure that all gas con-nections are sealed and intact.

If necessary, ensure that you replace the gas hose if required to do so to comply local legis-lation.

The barbecue must not be used if the connec-tions for the gas supply are porous or faulty. This also applies, for example, to hoses or fit-tings that are blocked with insects, as this can result in a dangerous flashback.

• When igniting the gas flame do not bend over the barbecue, as deflagration can occur if gas has accumulated in the fire bowl.

For the same reason, never re-ignite immedia-tely if the flame goes out, instead:

– Turn the flame regulator (B) to "Off" to interrupt the gas supply.

– Wait for 3 minutes to ensure that any accu-mulated gas has dissipated.

– Then re-ignite the burners (see the chapter "Operations").

Danger: Gas displaces oxygen

Liquid gas is heavier than oxygen. Therefore it settles on the ground and displaces the oxygen at that level.

Possible consequences:

• Suffocation resulting from a lack of oxygen if the concentration of gas is allowed to rise suf-ficiently.

Safety measures:

• Only use the Smoker outdoors in a well venti-lated area and above ground (i.e. not in areas that are below ground level).

• Close the valve on the gas cylinder immediate-ly when you finish using the Smoker.

• If the barbecue is not being used for a pro-longed period, cut off the supply from the gas cylinder and store properly:

– Fit the gas cylinder valve with a cap nut and safety cap.

– Do not store the gas cylinder in rooms below ground level, in or near stairways, hallways or passages and thoroughfares between buildings.

– Always store gas cylinders upright, even if they are empty!

AssemblyHere are a few tips to help you assemble your barbe-cue quickly and successfully:

• Check that no parts are missing by placing all of the individual parts on an empty table (subject to minor technical changes).

• If, despite careful factory checks, a component should be missing, please contact our customer service department (see last page). We will imme-diately attend to your request.

• To assemble the barbecue you only need a medi-um-size screwdriver as well as 8, 10, 13 and 19 mm open ended spanners.

• Only use tools that are intact and suitable for the job at hand. Worn or unsuitable tools will not allow you to tighten the bolts sufficiently, but will damage them to the extent that they can no lon-ger be turned.

• Always fit all connecting elements (screws, nuts, bolts, et cetera) as shown in the illustrations. If you misplace a connecting element, replace it with an appropriate part. Only by doing this can you ensu-re that the construction is strong and safe.

• Be sure to follow the instructions in the specified order!

• Even if you are not experienced at DIY, assembly does not generally take longer than one hour.

The illustrations showing the assembly steps are at the end of this manual.

Connecting and disconnecting the gas cylinder

10 12093

Disconnecting the gas cylinder1. Close the cylinder valve (turn G1 clockwise).

2. Turn the coupling nut (G3) on the pressure regu-lator clockwise by hand and remove the pressure regulator (G4) from the cylinder valve thread (G2).

3. Store the pressure regulator (G4) with the gas hose (G7) under the barbecue. Make sure the gas hose is not kinked or twisted in any way.

4. Store the gas cylinder correctly:

– Fit the gas cylinder valve with a cap nut and safety cap.Do not store the gas cylinder in rooms below ground level, in or near stairways, hallways or passages and thoroughfares between buil-dings.

– Always store gas cylinders upright, even if they are empty!

Connecting the gas cylinder1. Connect the coupling nut (G3) of the pressure

regulator to the cylinder valve thread (G2) and tighten the coupling nut (G3) by turning it anti-clockwise by hand.

Do not use any tools for this as they can cau-se damage to the cylinder valve seal, which will result in impairing the tightness of the connection and a loss of warranty.

2. Check to make sure the pressure regulator (G5) and the gas hose (G7) are securely connected. Tighten the screw of the hose clamp (G6) with a screwdriver.

3. Check to make sure the connection between the gas hose (G7) and adjusting element, as well as the connection between the gas hose (G7) and side burner adjusting element are secure.

Make sure that the hose is not kinked or twisted in any way and that it is not under tension.

4. Open the cylinder valve (turn G1 anti-clockwise) and use a standard leak detector to make sure that all of the connections are tight.

– Please observe the instructions for the leak detector! Never check for leaks using a naked flame. Listening for leaks is not a reliable method of detection.

– If a leak is detected, close the cylinder valve immediately (turn G1 clockwise) and tighten the loose connection or replace the leaking part. Repeat the leak test.

5. If you do not wish to barbecue immediately, close the cylinder valve (turn G1 clockwise).

Before starting• Select a suitable, preferably wind-sheltered area

in which to set up the barbecue. Make sure that ...

– no flammable materials or substances are in close proximity to the Smoker. The minimum distance to flammable materials or substances is 2 m above and 1 m to the side of the barbe-cue; the distance to less flammable materials or substances is at least 0.25 m.

– the Smoker is positioned firmly on a flat, suffi-ciently large surface area. It must not be moved during operation.

• The gas hose must not be kinked or under tension.

• Never lay the gas cylinder on its side.

• Check that the seal in the pressure regulator (G4) is present and intact. Do not use any additional seals.

• When connecting the gas cylinder ensure that the-re are no sources of ignition within a 5 m radius. Take special care not to light any naked flames, do not smoke or switch on electric appliances (devices, lights, door bells), etc (spark-over possible).

Igniting the burners

Danger: Gas deflagration on ignition

If unburned gas accumulates, deflagration can occur when igniting.

Possible consequences:

• This can cause severe injury and damage.

Safety measures:

• Do not lean over the fire area when igniting the gas flame.

• Never re-ignite immediately if the flame goes out, instead:

– Turn the flame regulator (B) to "Off" to interrupt the gas supply.

– Wait for 3 minutes to ensure that any accu-mulated gas has dissipated.

– Then re-ignite the burners.

1. Open the Smoker door.

Maintain the greatest possible distance from the grill unit during the next few steps.

2. Press and turn the respective flame regulator (B) anti-clockwise to HIGH ("large flame"). Hold it in this position.

3. Press the Piezo igniter (A) until the gas ignites in the burner.

A low cracking sound indicates that the pulse igni-ter is igniting.

4. Close the lid and allow the Smoker to heat up to full power.

The first time you use the Smoker, heat for some 20 minutes without food so that the food-safe coating is hardened (as with any oven).

5. When the Smoker is heated up, turn the flame regulator (B) to the selected setting (flame size).

7. You can now place your food on the grill. Be sure to wear grilling gloves or other heatproof gloves.

To switch off the burners (to extinguish the flame) press and turn the flame regulators (B) clockwise to "OFF".

The gas supply is only disconnected if all the flame regulators have been set to OFF.

Maintenance

The Smoker is maintenance free. Nevertheless, you should check it at regular intervals. The intervals depend on how often it is used and the environmen-tal conditions to which it is exposed.

Smoker• Inspect the burners for any dirt and blockages.

Make sure that both of the side air inlets are clear on each burner hose. If necessary clean the ope-nings, for example, with a pipe cleaner.

• A contaminated burner can impair the perfor-mance of the barbecue and lead to the gas igni-ting dangerously outside the burner.

• Check to ensure that all parts of the Smoker are present and assembled (visual check).

• Check to ensure that all connections are present and securely fastened. Tighten if necessary.

Gas systemThe gas system needs to be checked every time a gas cylinder is connected (see chapter "Connecting and disconnecting the gas cylinder“).

If necessary, ensure that you replace the hose to com-ply with the national requirements.
