RemindeR to paRents! We need to know when your child is absent from school. Please let us know preferably prior to 9am, by phone: 9380 1231 or email: [email protected] .

it has continued to be a busy and

productive two weeks since our last newsletter edition. this term

has truly flown by!

the information sessions hosted in the learning areas were well attended and the peppercorn picnic, (maybe a rebranding is necessary…. the potable picnic?) was a huge success. it was great to see so many new families being welcomed by our Bsps community. the food served at the picnic was delicious and a big thank you needs to go out to angela who coordinated the cooking team in the kitchen on both Wednesday and thursday leading up to the event. thanks too, to all the parents who helped set up, serve and pack up at the end. We really do have a wonderful community at Brunswick south and it is at events like this that our community spirit and really shines through.

We are also sad to say farewell to Rachel for the rest of this year. she will be taking leave until the end of 2017. Rachel has worked at Bsps for longer than she would probably like to admit and in this time has made wonderful contributions to the school. We are grateful for her contributions to Bsps in her role in Health & pe and working alongside staff and students in the learning areas, (Rachel has even taught some of the parents in our school community!)

Last week the school council nomination process concluded. as there were three nominations and three vacant positions

on school Council there was no need to go to an election. We would like to welcome our three new Council members: Jeremy schreurs, monique dawson and sara Rosson.

please remember that being on Council is only one of the many ways that you can support our school. immediately after we have our first meeting as a new school council we will have new sub-Committee Convenors appointed. this will give families an option of joining Council’s various sub-Committees. these are: Community partnerships, policy, osHC and Building and Grounds.

We know that different families can offer different levels of support for our school through volunteering and this is always greatly appreciated. thank you everyone for your fantastic ongoing support for our school.

enjoy your week!

PERFORMING ARTS

We can hardly believe it, we have been at school for 19 days and this is our first full week at school!

We have busy days, learning in different groups with different teachers. In Italian we are working hard at making sense of a new alfabeto, with new sounds and lots of new words.

in measurement we are looking at how we know when it is day or night and the different things we do in both. We love to express our emozioni and are learning to be brave in everything we do. one of our brilliant zen students shared his thoughts just before our meditation time. “When the ‘i can’t’ monster pops into your head all you have to think is – yes i can and the monster will get smaller.” our work is done!!

In Italian Literacy, we

have been learning to Check for Understanding.

This strategy helps us understand texts better and improves our comprehension. Why don’t you ask your child to speak about one of the characters (Kiki, Jack, Mia, Kevin or Serena) in our new Italian class book ‘Tutti Insieme a Scuola’?
