Introduction

Engineering technologists are plying an essential role in many business areas. The production and service functions in most business are based on some core technology. This could range from brick making or bread backing to microchip manufacturing or internet service provision. This indicates that most businesses require some sort of technology for production and to do business.

In any business environment, where technology is changing at an unrelenting pace, businesses must be able to adjust to this technology challenge or become extinct.

Aim

The aim of this assignment is to test your ability to apply your new required knowledge in a real life situation and to give the

correct advice in given situations work with the given information to create and test a real life scenario get a view of your presentation style systemic thinking and communication skills together with your ability to

integrate the business framework into a strategic conversation. creative and innovative with a solution focus excellent communication skills – Written and oral ability to work independently self-confidence and resilience organisational awareness

Assignment

1. Develop a method/structure/rubric that any business can use to measure their readiness to adjust to the technology challenge.

2. What corrective measures the business has to incorporate to survive when the limitation/deficiency is known.

3. Write a document on how:3.1. to use the different aspects in your method/structure/rubric to get a short, medium and long term result and 3.2. to get to the corrective measures that the business need to implement.

Guidelines for the assignment:

Understand the chapter on Business and Technology Strategy The assignment is not a literature review on technology strategy or strategic

management i.e. do not give a comprehensive review of all literature available on technology strategy or strategic management.

Do the assignment as a case study on a specific industry. Clearly identify the technology strategy criteria for the specific industry. Research the technology strategy within this specific industry and evaluate it

on specific identified technology strategy criteria. Do not use these guidelines as headings in your assignment, these are

merely guidelines.

Assignment Criteria

1. Hand in the final assignment on the date indicated by your lecturer. 2. This assignment is an individual assignment. 3. The number of typed pages for the assignment is limited to a minimum of 20

pages and a maximum of 25 pages, single spacing, Arial, 12 point font. 4. You should give at least 7 relevant literature references other than the

prescribed books.5. The assignment is part of the predicate mark, but if you did not get 40

% average for the semester tests, this assignment will not be marked.
