I am very happy to be workingin the community in which I live and love, while continuing in aschool role that I am very passionate about.
Inclusion
The revised Inclusive Education policy that was released thisyear states that the Department of Education’s commitmentis that; children and young people across Queensland, fromall social, cultural, community and family backgrounds, and ofall identities and all abilities are able to access and participatein learning, alongside their similar-aged peers, supported byreasonable adjustments and teaching strategies tailored tomeet their needs.
In Week 8 of this term, we will be celebrating Inclusion. DuringWeek 8, staff will be facilitating inclusive activities and sharingbooks with students that raise awareness and celebratediversity. Some classes will also be getting a visit from Bev andher guide dog Henry, sharing their book ‘Along Came Henry’.If you’re passing through the administration block, keep an eyeout for our inclusive whole school display that will be completedby Friday of Week 8.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
For parents and carers that are already linked in with the NDIS,there is a webinar focusing on ‘How to get the most out of yourNDIS plan’ on Thursday 28 November 2019 at 1pm (AEDT).The webinar will feature a live Q&A with expert panelistscovering a range of important topics. It will include Auslaninterpreters and live captions.
NDIS early intervention support for children aged 0 – 6 years
If you are worried about your young ones development, or ifyour child has a developmental delay you can call the NationalDisability Insurance Agency (NDIA) on 1800 800 110. TheNDIA’s focus is on providing support straight away. You’ll meetwith an NDIS early childhood partner to talk about your worriesand your child’s needs and goals.
Depending on your child’s needs, the NDIS early childhoodpartner might:
• Give you information
• Refer you to another service
• Provide or help you find early childhood earlyintervention support for your child
• Recommend that your child moves quickly to anindividualised NDIS plan
• Coordinate a combination of the options above.
You don’t have to pay for the early intervention support you getfrom providers of an NDIS plan.
The NDIS supports early intervention at any stage of life butchildren older than seven years need to have a permanent andsignificant disability to get support.
If you would like any additional information on the NDIS , pleasebrowse through their website at the link below:

Mind Up
In weeks 4-7 of term 4 in MindUp where we areTaking Action Mindfully we are focussing onLesson 14:
Performing Acts of Kindness
Ripple effect of Kindness
Through the MindUP curriculum your childmight have been asked to imagine thatkindness is like a drop of water. They mayhave done an experiment seeing how the drop of waterproduces ripples moving outward making a progressively widercircle. The focus allows children to see how one act of kindnesscan have a “ripple” effect on others. How a little kindness thatthey show to others may have a far reaching effect.
There have been many times that this idea of the “ripple” havebeen explored. The movie Pay it Forward, a promotion in recenttimes by a local radio station Tag You’re It are some of the waysdifferent people have tried to spread the word about spreadingkindness. Encouraging us to reflect upon the fact that whenwe receive kindness, to fully appreciate it and perpetuate thekindness, we should then look for opportunities to do kindnessacts for others.
What are some reasons as to why you should encourageyour child to show kindness?
What are some ways you could encourage your child toshow kindness?
This list goes on. Remember, performing acts of kindness hasbeen shown to boost the positive energy of all involved, boththe one who gives and the one who receives.
Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep itfrom themselves – JM Barrie “Peter Pan”
