It is once again my privilege to communicate with each one of you through this newsleer which is the first of ASU year 2017-2018. I am sure you all had a great SZUSICON 2017 at Manipal. I wish to place on record with gratude commied efforts of team Manipal. Dr. Arun Chawla along with Drs. Joseph Thomas and Padmaraj Hedge with a large body of colleagues and staff at Manipal deserve to be congratulated for giving us a conference which will be etched in our minds indelibly. In the ASU year that was, we worked under the able stewardship of Dr. Krishnasamy Kannan with the moo – “A Step forward”. Considerable efforts went into stream lining ASU affairs during this year. Each one of you taking a step forward helped ASU take a thousand plus steps forward. I thank all those who helped take ASU to a higher level during this year. Can we rest on our laurels? “No”, - says our new leader Dr. C. Mallikarjuna. He has given us a movaonal theme to work with. “Stay ahead” will be our mantra this year. I once again request each one of you to assimilate and put to pracce this profound call to make ASU second to none. With warmest personnel greetings to you and yours, Dr.G.G. The ASU- Professor H S Bhat midterm workshop is fast approaching. The theme this year is “Bladder Cancer”. I hope the deliberaons will serve the praconer and smulate the academic alike. This event slated to take place on 19th November at Coimbatore and eagerly looked forward to by all of us under the stewardship of Dr Ganesh Gopalakrishnan will undoubtedly turn out to be a memorable one! Friends, Urology is a fast changing specialty. This is why it is an excing discipline and this very aribute compels us to be conversant with the rapid changes that are taking place in our field at an amazing speed and also inspire the next generaon to keep abreast of all the developments. The future of the specialty is dependent on the new generaon. In this context, I would request all of you to dedicate some me for teaching and training in order to disseminate knowledge and skills where ever it is necessary. Your efforts will in turn benefit the society and this is how we can all stay ahead. Wishing you all a happy and joyful fesve season ahead! Twenty eighth Annual Conference of Associa�on of Southern Urologist was held in Manipal from 11th August 2017 to 13th august 2017. This event was hosted by Department of Urology, under the aegis of Manipal University. The conference had a record number of delegates totaling more than 900 including par�cipa�on from industry. In addi�on to the annual features of ASU, innova�ve scien�fic program covering all aspects of Urology laced with thema�c opera�ve sessions was the soul of the conference. First �me sessions namely 'Grey Ma�ers in Urology', 'Top Secrets' and 'Journal scan' were highlights of day 1. Dr N Vijaya Sankaran delivered the Prof H S Bhat Ora�on. Prof. P B Sivaraman lecture was delivered by Dr Aruna Vaniker, Ahmedabad. Dr Ganesh Gopalakrishnana moderated the ASU-NU Hospitals, Pediatric urology debate. Khivraj Symposium was convened and conducted by Dr M G Kamath. There were a total of 143 scien�fic presenta�ons (74 free papers, 18 videos and 51 posters)

The conference was formally inaugurated on day 1 by Professor H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University in the presence of Dr P N Dogra, President of Urological society of India and other university officials namely the VC, Dr H Vinod Bhat, Pro-VC Dr Poornima Baliga and Dean KMC Mnaipal Dr Pragna Rao

All the three days began with live opera�ve sessions on topics which included PCNL, Prosta�c enuclea�on, Uro-gynaecology procedures, Lap Pyeloplasty and Lap Adrenalectomy. The various procedures were demonstrated by celebrated faculty in the respec�ve fields. This was well appreciated by the a�endees.

Professor Dirk De Ridder, from Brussels, Belgium was the interna�onal faculty for BOE program on Female Urinary fistulas. Earlier, he demonstrated repair of anterior compartment prolapse causing SUI during the opera�ve session of the day.

Dr. Anil Kapoor, Professor of Urology, McMaster University, Canada, in his live transmi�ed lecture spoke on role of Nephrectomy in Metasta�c renal cancer. The event was a�ended by delegates and faculty outside South zone also.

For the first �me, there was a pre conference, half day conference for nurses on Urological nursing with resource faculty from CMC Vellore.

Spouses and children were kept busy and occupied by structured entertainment programs. This comprised of a magic shows, sessions on boat riding and a workshop on Zumba dance. There was also a workshop on baking and using tandoor by the faculty of Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administra�on (WGSHA).

The two sessions on last day added luster to the conference. These were a medico-legal session convened by Dr Joseph Thomas and a life style session to enhance emo�onal agility.

The inaugural dinner on day 1 and Gala dinner on day 2 with delicious cuisine, stage entertainment by professional ar�sts and the never ending fellowship made both the evenings memorable.

MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING OF ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHERN UROLOGISTS HELD ON 12 AUGUST 2017, T M A PAI HALL, KMC, MANIPAL

The Annual General Body mee�ng was called to order by President, Dr.Krishnasamy Kannan.The President informed the house that the Society had lost of two of its senior members during the past one year namely Dr. D. Chandrasekaran and Dr. T. R. Murali. Dr. N. Vijayasankaran remembered their services to the Society in his condolence speech. The house observed a minute of silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls. The Secretary was requested by the house to send the condolence messages to the families of the bereaved.The President in his opening remarks enlightened the house regarding the ac�vi�es of the Society. He informed that the registra�on procedure at the Registrar's Office was almost over and they would issue the condona�on le�er shortly. Further he expressed his happiness on the proceedings of the Society and that he could achieve his mo�o of `A step forward'. He thanked all the Council Members and others for their �mely advice and support.The Secretary informed that the Minutes of the AGM held at Puducherry in 2016 were circulated and that he had not received comments from any member. Therefore the Minutes were dec lared passed (Proposed by Dr.D.Ramesh; Seconded by Dr.K.S.N.Chary). The Secretary informed the house that the ma�ers arising of these minutes would be discussed in the Agenda to follow. Dr.D.Ramesh remarked that as a point of order, it could be recorded that many Endowed Sessions/Awards approved in the previous AGM were ins�tuted during the same year itself, which was not the conven�on.The Secretary informed that the Secretary's Report also had been circulated earlier and he had not received comments from any member. He briefly highlighted the salient points in the Report for the benefit of the members. The Report was then passed (Proposed by Dr.Ananth Kamath; Seconded by Dr.Ganesh Kamath).The Treasurer presented the Audited Statement of Accounts of the financial year 2016-2017, which was already circulated. He simplified the accounts in a manner which the members could easily understand and explained the various heads under which the various corpora were kept and the mode of expenditure to be followed. The Report was passed (Proposed by Dr. Joseph Philipraj: Seconded by Dr. C. Gauthaman). The Treasurer apprised the house regarding the status of Registra�on of the society and the procedures undertaken a�er receipt

Minutes of the AGM of the le�er from Registrar of Socie�es reques�ng the ASU to present the original documents for verifica�on. The Treasurer further informed that against the no�ce served by IT Dept on 20.1.2017, he could present all the Cash Books for verifica�on by them. The Treasurer also informed the house that the society was served another no�ce for Complete Scru�ny of accounts for the FY 2015-16, under sec�on 143 (2) on 20.7.2017. The details of the probable discrepancies in the accounts submi�ed, mainly pertaining to the SZUSICON 2012 Account which was opera�onal during this period, were also explained by the Treasurer to the house. The Treasurer informed the house that the Power of A�orney was already given to the Auditor to represent the Society in this ma�er and all a v a i l a b l e b o o k s o f a c c o u n t s , o r i g i n a l bills/challans/vouchers of the conference, which were not available with the ASU office, were being retrieved from Organisers of the Conference. He further expressed his sa�sfac�on on the help rendered by the local organisers thus far in providing him with some important details and their coopera�on in sor�ng out the issue. Dr. A. Mohan, on the request of the President, apprised the members of consequences of such complete scru�ny, including “best judgement” decision taken by the scru�nising officer, minor penal�es and the highest penalty with or without further prosecu�on. He requested the Treasurer to present the best case to the IT Dept, so that the Society would not be burdened with serious penalty. Though the President wanted to move a Resolu�on seeking the permission of the house to meet any such financial liability, as decided in the Execu�ve Council mee�ngs a�er prolonged discussion on the ma�er, Dr. D. Ramesh remarked that the Society was le� with no choice but to meet whatever penalty that would be eventually imposed by IT Department a�er the scru�ny would be over and that there was no need for any special resolu�on in this regard. The house agreed to this proposal of Dr.D. Ramesh and entrusted the Treasurer and the Council to go ahead with the proceedings and meet the financial liabili�es from the funds available with the Society.The Secretary informed the house that the Council had scru�nised the applica�ons for various awards for the present year and that the results would be announced during the Valedictory Func�on, since the evalua�on process of the candidates were ongoing.Dr.M. Ramalingam, Coimbatore was selected as the Prof.H. S. Bhat Orator for the year 2018. Dr.Makarand Kochikar, Mumbai was selected as the Prof.P. B. Sivaraman Endowment Guest Lecturer for the year 2018.

The Secretary presented the list of 76 new members and the names of 21 members who had applied for membership conversions, a�er scru�ny of their applica�ons by the EC. The house approved this list. (Proposed by Dr.Ananth Kamath; Seconded by Dr.Ramesh D).The Treasurer informed the house that the budget provisions for various expenses were already presented by him in his report and hence there was no need to present another proposed budget for the forthcoming year. The house approved this.Dr.Ganesh Gopalakrishnan informed the house that the arrangements for the forthcoming ASU-Prof H.S.Bhat Mid Term Workshop at Coimbatore were in full pace and that the details would be informed to members soon. He requested the Scien�fic Commi�ee for the same to finalise the program and inform the Organisers at the earliest. Dr.C. Mallikarjuna suggested Carcinoma Bladder as the theme for the Workshop. These sugges�ons were approved by the GB.The Secretary informed that Kerala would get the chance to hold the 6th ASU-Prof H.S.Bhat Mid Term Workshop in 2018 and he had received the concurrence of Dr.Suresh Bhat of Medical College, Ko�ayam to conduct the same. The house approved this.Dr.Kalyan Ram Kone, Organising Secretary of SZUSICON 2016 at Puducherry informed the house that they had already submi�ed the audited statement of accounts for the conference and had donated 1 Lakh Rupees to the Society from their proceeds. The house applauded the efforts of the Organizers in conduc�ng a good conference and dona�ng the money within one week of concluding the conference apart from repaying the seed money given by ASU for ini�al expenses.Dr.Poulose Chally, Organising Secretary of SZUSICON 2018 to be conducted under the banner of UAK and Calicut Urology Club at Vythiri made a presenta�on on the facili�es, proposed scien�fic ac�vi�es and the registra�on fee structure for the conference. The house approved these and requested the Organisers to go ahead with the arrangements. The Secretary of ASU informed that the scien�fic commi�ee would chart out the details of scien�fic program sui�ng the requirements of the venue and climate.Dr. Chengalvarayan, Secretary of TAPASU informed that Coimbatore, Tamil nadu would be the venue for SZUSICON 2019. This was approved by the house.Dr. Vinod K V, Organising Secretary of USICON 2020 briefly highlighted the progress in the arrangements for the conference and would finalise the venue and dates subsequent to the visit by President Elect of USI soon.

Dr.Krishna Moorthy, Nodal Person for ASU-State Level Academic Programs informed the house that the selec�on of teams for Quiz-O-Mania was done by the State Associa�ons, the Inter State finals were already conducted and The Zonal team for the Na�onal Finals at Jaipur was selected during the present Conference. He then presented the names of the Fellows selected by the State Associa�ons for ASU-State Level Academic Fellowship (Dr.Manas Babu, Kochi; Dr. Nilesh Guru, Bijapur; Dr.Tejas, Puducherry; Dr.Jaheer Abbas, Hyderabad). The house approved these names. The Secretary informed the members that CMC, Vellore had in�mated their willingness to accommodate these Fellows for a week's training and that Dr.Reddy's Lab would be the Academic Supporter for the current year. The house approved these decisions also. The Secretary informed that details of the State Chapter Mee�ngs held in the previous year were published in the Newsle�er and thanked the Organizers for the excellent organiza�on of these mee�ngs. The Returning Officer for ASU Elec�ons, 2017-18, Dr.KSN Chary announced that there were no elec�ons conducted as there were re�rement requests from some candidates making the elec�on unanimous. He further announced that Dr. Chandrasekhar Ratkal, Bengaluru was declared elected for the post of President Elect for the year 2017-2018 and Dr.Arun Chawla, Manipal was declared elected for the post of Secretary Elect for the year 2017-2018. The house congratulated the elected Officers and thanked the Returning Officer for the excellent job done by him for conduct of elec�ons.The following Cons�tu�on Amendments proposed by the Execu�ve Council were presented to the AGMTo be added18. ELECTION TO THE OFFICES AND COUNCIL OF THE ASSOCIATIONK. Non-receipt of nomina�on for a post in the category of “Officer of the Associa�on”i. In the event of no nomina�on for a post of “Officer of the Associa�on” being received by the returning officer before the last date for nomina�ons, the last date shall be extended for a further period of two weeks, and the same shall be communicated to all members by the secretary, reques�ng once more for a nomina�on.( Rejected with 14 votes For/17votes Against)ii. If no nomina�on is received for a post of “Officer of the Associa�on” by the Returning Officer before the last date for receipt of nomina�ons, even a�er the extension period, the Secretary shall call for members to come prepared with nomina�ons of eligible candidates to be made from the floor of the house at the Annual

General Body Mee�ng. The amendment was accepted a�er the phrase “even a�er the extension period” was dropped as it had become infructuous a�er the first clause had been rejected.iii. Where the nomina�ons are made from the floor of the house, the elec�on of such a person shall be announced only a�er the Returning Officer has verified the eligibility of the candidate for the post.iv. If a�er the post-facto verifica�on the Returning Officer finds the nomina�on invalid for reason of non-eligibility, the elec�on shall be rendered null. v. For the post(s) not filled despite procedure under18(K)(i) to (iv) above, they shall be filled at a Special General Body mee�ng convened for the purpose during any of the scien�fic ac�vi�es of the Associa�on conducted during the year but prior to the next Annual General Body Mee�ng. This was adopted a�er the phrase “during any of the scien�fic ac�vi�es of the Associa�on” was dropped.vi. For purposes of calcula�on of term of office in this case, the term of the officer shall end on the date it would have ended had the officer been elected during the Annual General Body Mee�ng at which the post was to be filled originally.All adopted amendments were adopted unanimously.

13. Term of Office of Officers of the Associa�onE. TREASURERv. In the event of incumbent Treasurer being unwilling or unavailable to con�nue in office, the Secretary-elect shall discharge the func�ons of the treasurer. In the event that the Secretary-elect is unwilling to do so, the execu�ve council shall appoint as the treasurer from one of the officers of the incumbent council to func�on as the ac�ng treasurer �ll a duly elected treasurer is available to take charge at valedictory mee�ng of the annual conference of the following year. The person chosen to discharge the func�ons of the treasurer in this situa�on shall also be the authorised signatory for financial instruments.This amendment was adopted unanimouslyThe Secretary was requested to file these Amendments with the Registrar of Socie�es, with appropriate numbering of the clauses approved by the GB.The Secretary informed that there were no specific le�ers sent by members for discussion in the AGM.The President thanked the house for meaningful discussions, useful comments and construc�ve sugges�ons during the mee�ng and closed the mee�ng.
