We can at least draw courage from Schiller's letters. Hesketches man as being subject to two opposing forces. The urge of the senses insists on change, while thattowards form decrees laws. The conflict between thetwo would continue together forever were it not for athird urge to act as mediator. Thus it is the aestheticdimension that restores unity and it does so in the urgeto play. Play is, after all, free as air, but at the same timeit cannot do without rules. The game is an order. Theaesthetic form is of the highest order.

What if, in the non-oppositional mode, he drew uponthe senses to begin to make this form, and made play ofthe laws?

I happened to put a block of post-it notes down on abook on the table beside me. I could see T.R.'s 4 X 4 col-lages and most of the title, but not the 'r' or the 's,'which gave me, among other things, Amour fou and theFoo Fighters. At this point, I was reading [in Removed forFurther Study: The Poetry of Tom Raworth, The Gig 13/14]Ben Watson's "Tom Raworth, Gridlock Fragmentist: APoet Turns To Collage," the quotes from an interviewdone at T.R's. house where he says (p.228) "I like theway the matt paper melds in with the Pritt to becomealmost one surface." And on the facing page (p.229),"Every now and then I'm happy to sit there and spend along time with Pritt and paper." Pritt? Adhesive? If you Google Pritt, you see an anthropomorphic gluestick with a smiling face, hands outstretched, showing aglobe that has England, Europe, Asia & Africa on theright, N. & S. America falling off on the left. Choose acountry, it said. Countries pop up. From Austria to theUK, no Africa, no America. Then I noticed a kind oftypewritten note at the bottom of the screen, "Note forUS Residents" and clicked on it. And got "This website is not intended for Residents of the United States."

What's up with that, I thought. "For US Residents, please visit www.henckel.us." So I went there, andfound, among others, the Pritt brand.
