AcropolisLiterally «high city,» the Acropolis, is Greece’s great marvel. As you begin to ascend the sacred hill a breathtaking view of the city below will unfold. You will see the glorious monuments of the Acropolis such as, the Parthenon, the Erectheion, the Propylaia, the Athena Nike Temple, the Agrippa Monument and the surrounding monuments such as the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Ancient Agora, the Observatory as well as the Philopappos, Mars, and Pnyx Hills. (metro station: acropolis)

Zappeion HallWalking towards Syntagma square, you can also see the National Gardens and the beautiful neoclassical Zappeion Hall, in front of which tower the surviving columns of the Temple of Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch. Your tour can continue towards the House of the Greek Parliament and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier and watch the changing of the guards. (metro station: syntagma)

Dionysiou AreopagitouYou can also walk through Dionysiou Areopagitou, one of the most impressive streets in Athens with an amazing view of Acropolis and Parthenon. Pay attention to the buildings on the street’s left side. Most of them were built at the end of 19th century and beginning of 20th century and are of neoclassic or modernistic type representing the area’s elegance. (metro station: acropolis)

AnafiotikaNear the famous Plaka district where you see the statue of Melina Merkouri, you can get a feel for life at street level strolling through Anafiotika, a 19th century neighborhood on the northern slopes of the Acropolis hill, beside the entrance to the Agora. The masons who built it hailed from the island of Anafi, and were brought here by King Otto I to build his palace. Nestled above Plaka, Athens’ center, and bustling Monastiraki, the old bazaar, Anafiotika seems far removed. (metro station: acropolis)

Presidential GuardAn elite unit of young men who guard the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Hellenic Parliament, was first constituted in 1868 and is still considered a symbol of bravery. The Evzones, also known as Tsoliades, are required to stand guard mute and expressionless for 60 minutes at a time. Every Sunday morning at 11:00, large crowds gather to watch the spectacular weekly grand changing of the guard, when the guards follow a specific step routine carried out in excruciating slow motion to protect their blood circulation after prolonged immobility, working in pairs to coordinate their movements.

GaziIn the evening, you can move around the metro at Thiseio or Kerameikos to find countless eateries, music venues and art spaces. Dominating the skyline is the gasworks turned Technopolis, a vast mixed-use cultural center. (metro station: kerameikos)

SNFCCwww.snfcc.org

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is located 4.5km south of the center of Athens, on the edge of Faliro Bay, and is designed as a multifunctional arts, education and entertainment complex. It includes new facilities for the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera, as well as the 210,000 m² Stavros Niarchos Park.

Avissynias SquareOn Sunday morning, you can make your way to Monastiraki and the flea market at Avissynias Square for a jumble of curios, from books to paintings, clothes to trinkets. (metro station: monastiraki)

Acropolis Museumwww.theacropolismuseum.gr/en

The Acropolis Museum is an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on its feet, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. It also lies on the archaeological site of Makrygianni and the ruins of a part of Roman and early Byzantine Athens. It has a total area of 25,000 square meters, with exhibition space of over 14,000 square meters, ten times more than that of the old museum on the Hill of the Acropolis. (metro station: acropolis)

Benaki Museumwww.benaki.gr

The Benaki Museum ranks among the major institutions that have enriched the material assets of the Greek state. Through its extensive collections, it covers several different cultural fields and more general range of activities. It occupies one of the few neoclassical buildings, located on an exceptionally favourable location in the historic centre of the city, right opposite the lush greenery of the National Gardens and the garden of the Presidential Mansion. (metro station: syntagma)The building at 138 Pireos street: In 2004, the  Benaki Museum  opened its new annex at the once industrial Rouf area that has undergone significant regeneration. As Athens’ window on contemporary art and design, this outpost is well worth a visit. The new building covers a total area of 8,200 m2 with underground areas of 2,800 m2 and an internal courtyard of 850 m2. The exhibition halls span 3,000 m2. (metro station: kerameikos)

Cape SounionAt Cape Sounion, 70km south of Athens, the Temple of Poseidon stands on a craggy spur that plunges 65m to the sea. Built in 444 BC – same year as the Parthenon – of marble from nearby Agrilesa, it is a vision of gleaming white columns. Sailors in ancient times knew they were nearly home when they saw the first glimpse of white, and views from the temple are equally impressive. On a clear day you can see Kea, Kythnos and Serifos to the southeast, and Aegina and the Peloponnese to the west. It is thought that the temple was built by Iktinos, the architect of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens’ Ancient Agora. Sixteen of the slender Doric columns remain. The site also contains scant remains of a propylaeum, a fortified tower and, on a lower hill to the northeast, a 6th-century temple to Athena. The site is a common package day trip from Athens, and this is the easiest way to visit. KTEL also runs frequent buses from the Mavromateon Terminal in Athens; the buses also stop near Syntagma. The ride along the coast road takes about two hours.

WILD BEAUTY. UNRIVALED ISLAND STYLE.

Lose yourself in a place where time seems to stand still; a place where you can sense an older, truer, more timeless Greece. This is the setting of Blue Palace, a setting of wild grandeur.

TIMELESS CRETE

Whether you are looking to escape to a sleepy hilltop village or a scenic vineyard, indulge in indigenous cuisine and take part in feasts confined only to locals; explore an ancient civilization or enjoy a bit of buzzing urban island life, Crete conjures an array of captivating images in the minds of travelers.

Suggested Itineraries:

SPINALONGA

Across Blue Palace, the isle of Spinalonga lies peacefully in the Gulf of Elounda. A major attraction site for visitors, this tiny island is the host to a wonderful combination of Medieval Venetian and Turkish buildings and turn of the century Greek houses. On a small scale, its history and architecture, marked by subsequent invasions, reflects the history of the island of Crete itself. Spinalonga has been a major influence in the design of Blue Palace.

THE TOWN OF AGHIOS NIKOLAOS

The beautiful town of Aghios Nikolaos embraces the picturesque lake of Voulismeni - legend says it is bottomless - and is lined with neoclassical buildings, restaurants, bars and shops. The setting is reminiscent of a typical Greek island; it is worth just wandering around and having a stop to enjoy a drink near the marina. In the heart of the town you’ll encounter an exceptional port that year in, year out is awarded a Blue Flag for its clean waters.

THE PALACE OF KNOSSOS & ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF HERAKLION

It is considered the monumental symbol of Minoan Civilization ( 2000-1350 BC. ), due to its construction, use of luxury materials, architectural plan, advanced building techniques and impressive size.
