Haunts WalksStarting GPS: 34.803 -86.967
Each October, this unique walking tour takes you through historic
Athens most infamous haunted locations. In the tranquility of the night
your storyteller will share the details of the “tales of Athens”. Advanced
ticket purchase is required.
Limestone County Canoe/Kayak TrailStarting GPS: 34.99444 -86.98889 (Site 1, Veto, AL)
The beautiful Elk River is the perfect place for canoeing and kayaking in
Limestone County. The water is challenging and the scenery is beautiful.
There are five sites for easy in and out along the river.
Noah Bike & Vintage Car TrailStarting GPS: 34.803 -86.967
This 89 mile trail is a bicycle, motorcycle, and vintage car trail which
offers a beautiful ride in Limestone County of Northern Alabama. The
trail connects historical sites, old cemeteries and places to picnic.
North Alabama Birding TrailStarting GPS: 36.54225 -86.6932
Seven sites of this 50 site regional trail are located in Limestone County.
Wetland birds, forest dwellers and song birds are featured.

Richard Martin Rails-to-TrailsStarting GPS: 34.5941 -86.5919
Located in Elkmont, this 10.2 mile trail offers a back-to-nature getaway
for hikers, bikers, joggers, bird watchers, horseback riders, as well as
students, naturalists, and historians. It is accessible to wheelchairs. (No
motorized vehicles.) Accessible at Veto 34.59412 -86.59192, Elkmont

Saturday June Historic WalksStarting GPS: 34.803 -86.967
Each Saturday in June, four free historic walks are offered at 10:00
AM. Walkers meet guides at the Athens Visitors Center and select one
of the hour long walks. (1) Athens Square, (2) Beaty Historic District,
Washington Street and Old Town Cemetery, (3) Athens State University,
Big Spring Memorial Park and College Inn, or (4) City Cemetery with
guides from Hobbs Camp - Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Step-Back-In-Time Walking TourStarting GPS: 34.803 -86.967
This Athens tour takes you through the historic Robert Beaty
District. Some homes in the District date prior to the Civil War;
however, most were built in the early 1900s. The primary reason for
this was that most of the land south and east of the Beaty Home was
filled with groves of trees, fairgrounds and a racetrack, until sold in 1898
and divided into lots.
Athens Greenway Walking TrailStarting GPS: 34.81585 -86.9451
Alternate Starting GPS: (Hwy 72) 34.785622 -86.955612
This 3.3 mile walking trail is made up of three legs. A 0.6 mile
walk begins at the Athens Sportsplex and continues to Athens High
School (AHS). The AHS track is 1.5 miles around the school. The
last 1.2 mile leg begins at the Athens Public Archery Range which
connects to the AHS track and continues to AL Hwy 72.
Athens Historic VolksMarchStarting GPS: 34.7814 -86.9368
Walkers pass through four historic districts: Beaty Historic District,
Athens Square Historic District; Houston Historic District; and
the Athens College Historic District. The American Volkssport
Association (AVA) sanctioned walk is a 10K (6.2 miles) and 5K-1+
primarily on paved streets and sidewalks. The sign in box is located
at the Hampton Inn & Suites located at I-65, Exit 351.
Athens-Limestone Fitness ParkStarting GPS: 34.8005 -86.9823
This 1 mile walking trail goes through the beautiful Wellness Park
located in Athens on West Washington Street.
Antebellum TrailStarting GPS: 34.79624 -86.96823
A driving/walking trail featuring 24 antebellum homes, three
antebellum churches, antebellum college, two antebellum working
cotton plantations, antebellum post office and antebellum
stagecoach inn and tavern in Athens, Belle Mina and Mooresville.
Ardmore Walking TracksStarting GPS: (AL) 34.9897 -86.8386; (TN) 35.0055 -86.8475
Ardmore has two walking tracks. The Ardmore, AL ¼-mile walking
track is located at the Town Park on Park Avenue. A ½-mile
walking track is located at the Ardmore, TN John Barnes Park on
Ardmore Ridge Road. Both tracks have kids’ playground areas close
to the track.
Civil War TrailStarting GPS: 34.806 -86.970
This driving/walking trail tours the civil war historical sites in
Limestone County including the Battle of Athens and the Battle of
Sulphur Creek Trestle (Elkmont).
Cowford Landing Rustic Walking TrailStarting GPS: 34.6854 -87.0713
This Limestone County walking and hiking trail takes walkers along
the beautiful Tennessee River and is located on Cowford Road, off
Snake Road.
Glory Road Historic Churches TrailStarting GPS: 34.8030 -86.9721
Thirty-five historic and community churches of Athens and
Limestone County are included on this trail, some dating as early as 1818.
