4 | ANNUAL REPORT 2015 | ATI-RTC III

The year 2015 is the International Year of Soils. Healthy soils are the basis for healthy food production. It is the

foundation for vegetation which is cultivated or managed for feed, fiber, fuel and medicinal products. In addition, it supports our planet’s biodiversity. Furthermore, soils help to combat and adapt climate change by playing a key role in the carbon cycle. Its preservation is essential for food security and our sustainable future.

In celebration, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in Central Luzon and its pursuit to deliver quality extension services in the region, organized various training and extension activities that highlight the importance of sustaining healthy soils to attain food security.

The center’s 2015 accomplishments are categorized into six themes according to the Agriculture and Fishery Extension (AFE) Development Framework: (1) Improving Access to Quality AFE Knowledge; (2) Strengthening Competitiveness and Capacities of the AF Sector; (3) Expanding Partnerships in Advancing Excellence in AFE Delivery; (4) Scaling up AFE Innovations; (5) Strengthening AFE Stakeholders’ Capacity in Climate Change Adaptation and Readiness; and (6) Improving Enabling Environment and Quality of Governance.

This year, we have intensified our technology media reach by conducting two School-on-the-Air programs in Zambales and Aurora. We have also continuously equipped our Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) by carrying out two batches of Season-Long Training of Trainers (TOT): one on Rice Production and the other one was on Integrated Crop Management (ICM) for Cassava.

On behalf of the entire center, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our partner agencies for their continuous support to ATI and its programs. We would not have made it as the “2015 Most Improved Regional Training Center” have you not stayed committed in sustaining responsive extension service.

I would also like to thank my staff for responding well, thinking of new initiatives and working with utmost patience in implementing our programs and activities. Indeed, we go where it is needed not where it is convenient.

We still have a long way to go and I hope that this report shows how much the agriculture sector is making good progress amidst the threat of climate change.

Kaya patuloy tayong magtulungan para sa maunlad, masagana at mapayapang Pilipinas!
