• Prior to abrasive blast cleaning, the steel surface shall be dry and free from contamination (oil, grease, corrosion...) or any surface defects.
• The surface shall be abrasive blast cleaned to: - Sa 2,5 (ISO 8501-1) - Roughness Rz between 50 and 100 microns
• Dust after blast cleaning needs to be removed

Steel supports are welded
on each tank dished-end.
Installation of the tank
on a rotating unit
The tank is set on a rotating mandril.
ENDOPRENE
Non-coated areas
need to be protected
before the application.
Surface preparation
ENDOPRENE
Equipment required to apply Endoprene
Manual or automatic, a two-component hot airless spray equipment is required to apply Endoprene paints.
Our Technical Departement can help you find out the nearest supplier.
ENDOPRENE
• Product temperature: - Part A (polyol) 60°C - Part B (isocyanate) 25°C
• Pump ratio: mini 40/1
Two-component hot « AIRLESS » spray
equipment required to apply Endoprene
ENDOPRENE
• Start up the application equipment at least 60 min. before application to allow for the Endoprene part A to heat up to 30°C.
• Check pressure gauges: air pressure between 4 to 6 Kg/cm²
Two-component hot « AIRLESS » spray equipment
ENDOPRENE
Standard conditions of application need to be
checked before the application
• Relative humidity : min. 5% - max. 80%
• Air temperature : min.+5°C - max. 40°C
• Substrate temperature : min. 10°C max. 40°C*
*(3°C above dew point)
Hygrometer
Temperature gauge
ENDOPRENE
Stripe coats
Application of a stripe
coat over welding
areas and sharp edges
to provide additional
thickness over
critical areas.
The line between the
gun and the mixing unit
should not exceed
3 meters.
ENDOPRENE
Safety regulations
Application in a suitable
paint shop conformed
to health and safety
current regulations with:
- Air extractors or water wall
- Industrial filters
- Paint mask for the painter
ENDOPRENE
Application
While the tank rotates, application of
one coat (several passes wet on wet)
between 500 µ and 1500 µ up to
specifications.
Starting the application from one of
the dished-end towards the other end.
ENDOPRENE
Foward progression with 50%
overlapping passes, wet on wet.
Application process
Ideal surface tank rotation
speed: 24 meters/min
(3 to 5 rotations per min.)
ENDOPRENE
Application process
• Spraying distance to the tank
surface 20 to 30 cm
Spray gun tip size: 21 to 31/1000 ”
spray angle: 60°
Wet film thickness
Control
Solvent-free product means:
Wet film thickness = Dry film thickness
(800 microns for EU standard)
ENDOPRENE
Wet film gauge
ENDOPRENE
Mixing unit
Mobile mixing unit, allowing the
painter to move freely.
The heated line to the dosing pump
should be 20 meters long.
ENDOPRENE
Average coating time
30 minutes only to apply
Endoprene 868.06 at 800 microns
D.F.T. (European Specification) for
a typical 50m3 tank.
ENDOPRENE
Drying process
The tank keeps on rotating after
application to accelerate drying
time.
Touch dry at 20°C : 20 min.
Print-free at 20°C : 4 hours
(standard Endoprene 868.06)
ENDOPRENE
Removal of the tank
At 20°C, 20 min. after the
application of ENDOPRENE
868.06, the tank can be removed
and stored inside.
Coated tank storage
After a few hours the coated
tank can even be stored
outside.
(4 hours for Endoprene 868.06
at 20°C)
ENDOPRENE
ENDOPRENE
At Ambiant Temperature 20°C:
Surface dry (ISO 1517) : From 4 to 20 minutes
Dry through (ISO 9117) : From 8 to 60 minutes
Print free (ISO 3678) : From 1 to 4 hours
Full Properties : 7 days
Endo prene main products typical drying times
• Visual control :
aspect and regularity of the
coated surface.
• Dry film thickness :
Elcometer equipment
(minimum thickness required
according to European
standard: 800 microns).
ENDOPRENE
Quality control of
the coating
A calibrated holiday detector should be used 4
hours after the application of Endoprene 868.06
at 20°C ambiant temperature.
Apply 6000 Volts maximum to comply with the
European standard PR-EN 12285-1
Quality control of the coating
ENDOPRENE
On-site coating repairs
Defects such as holidays, porosity or
damage showing before and during
installation can be repaired with:
ENDOPRENE 880
(0.5 Kg repair kit)
ENDOPRENE
Finished tanks
Final Installation:
The tank is laid into the ground.
The tank should be supervised
against accidental damage
during installation.
The repair kit product should be
used to repair any damage.
