Coordinated fundraising events for supplies and travel logistics. Served as a dental assistant for two weeks in Panama, providing care to native Panamanians who do not have access to dental care. As head of the primary fundraising event, led the largest Global Brigade fundraiser in the world with a successful charity concert at the University of Colorado—raising $70,000 in one night.

2010-13 Molecular Cellular Developmental Biology Mentor, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO. Volunteered as an event organizer for the Annual Cancer Symposium. Organized guest speaker events; wrote articles for MCDB newsletter and presented opportunities to new MCDB students.

2006-2014 Fundraiser and Promoter, Lafayette, CO. Participated in fundraising activities, silent auctions, and other volunteer events including: Molecular Biology Science Fair, 2013-2014 (judge); BVSD CordenPharma Science Fair; 2014 Special Olympics Polar Plunge; Bonfil’s Annual Blood Drive; Eco Warriors for Earth Day.

RELEVANT PROJECT EXPERIENCE AND COURSEWORK

Biology of the Cancer Cell (MCDB 3150). Investigated the dimensions of cancer as a genetic and cellular disease involving chemicals, viruses, and radiation as causes of cancer. Topics covered include correlation of cancer and diet along with prevention of cancer. Course covered cancer epidemiology, cancer risk factors, proto-oncogenes, oncogenes, and cancer suppressor genes.

Mechanisms of Aging (MCDB 5680). Completed studies in aging as a biochemical process emphasizing genetic, cellular, and molecular mechanisms such as oxidative stress, apoptosis, and mitochondrial biogenesis. Course was designed to examine immortal-like cells and different rates of aging between organisms as well as the cause of aging and degenerate diseases. Topics explore the potential for anti-aging drugs and genes that contribute to aging.

AWARDS AND HONORS

UMC Schafer Leadership Scholarship, 2013. Received a $1,000 award at the University of Colorado, which is given to one university student who experienced unexpected challenges and opportunities as a leader. Awarded to me when I accepted the leadership responsibility and accomplished goals as President of the Dental Brigades.

Academic Awards, 2006-2010, with an International Baccalaureate Diploma, 2010. Completed the IB Diploma, an internationally recognized rigorous curriculum. Through the IB program, received 12 college credits, which were accepted by the University of Colorado. Received academic awards every year based on GPA of 3.7 or higher.
