STEWARDSHIP AS A WAY OF LIFE

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL UPDATE

Thank you to all who have made a pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal in support of the many ministries and services provided through the ACA.

Our combined Archdiocesan/Parish Goal is $110,807. If we reach this goal in actual

payments, $33,000 of that amount will go towards much needed lighting around the entire church. This project, which has already begun, will make our beautiful historic church more secure during the evening hours, helping to prevent more future vandalism, and glorifying God as it radiates much need-ed Light in the streets of Vancouver!

As of Friday, August 14th, we have pledged $105,887, 96% of goal, with 36% participation from the parish. This leaves us just $4,920 short of our goal! If you have not yet sent in your ACA Pledge Card, please do so this weekend. It is very important that you clearly indicate the parish as "The Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater" on your pledge card in order for us to get credit for your pledge.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR STEWARDSHIP

We also want to thank all those who continue to not only make it possible to celebrate Holy Mass each week at the Proto-Cathedral, but assist in making it a most beautiful liturgy and welcoming environment, especially giv-en the many restrictions and guidelines we must follow. We are so grateful to those who continue to serve as sacristans, greeters, ush-ers, monitors, church cleaners, and our floral committee!! May God bless you abundantly for your witness to Christian discipleship! If you would like to be a part of any of these parish ministries, please email Sandy at [email protected].

DID YOU KNOW Beautiful Baby Born After Mom Changes Her Mind in the Middle of the Abortion, Kim Hayes, Aug 10, 2020, lifenews.com

Seventeen years old and a sen-ior in high school, Wisdom was an honor roll student, cheer-leader, working every day and looking forward to a bright future. Then a positive preg-nancy test spoke something very different to her heart. Wis-dom describes the fear as para-lyzing. The fear stopped Wis-dom from going to school or work. She just stopped showing up for everything. The once faithful employee and student dropped out of her own life. Fear compiled a list for the pregnant teen of no diploma, no employment and soon she could add homelessness to the list when her mom found out. Fear has been known to lie and it was certainly controlling Wisdom. When her boyfriend clarified his stance on the subject, it seemed fear was on target. He didn’t want Wisdom keeping the baby, so the course of action seemed to be quite clear. Wisdom went to a Planned Parenthood where an ultrasound confirmed she was six weeks pregnant. A chemical abortion was prescribed, and she took the first pill at the clinic. The other medication to follow would be picked up at the pharmacy and taken at home. The prescription notice was sent to her mother, an oversight on the teen’s part. When Wisdom’s mom confronted her, she told her about the pregnancy and her thoughts on being kicked out of their home. Fear had indeed lied. “I would never turn my back on you in this situation,” Wisdom’s mom had told her. “I am disappointed that you did not see me as the person you could turn to for help.” “When I realized that I had my mom’s support with having a baby, I realized that I had made a mistake,” said Wisdom. Rethinking a decision that had been based on false scenarios, Wisdom began researching whether the abortion medication’s effects could be reversed. She found the Abortion Pill Rescue Network (APRN) hotline and they referred her to Choices Pregnancy Center (CPC) in Easton, MD. Within 12 hours of having taken the first abortion pill, Wisdom was at CPC receiving critical care. They had told her on the phone she had 24 hours to get the reversal regimen started. “All of Choices' staff members were super sweet,” Wisdom recalls. “They ex-plained to me that it wasn’t too late and that I could start the re-versal that same day. All I had to do was take a pill every day for my first and second trimester of my pregnancy.” Wisdom reflect-ed on how welcoming the staff at CPC was to her each and every visit. She had ultrasounds weekly to continue the monitoring of her baby’s health. “The Choices family is loving and caring,” Wisdom said. “I consider them a part of my family now. They have helped me in so many ways.”

Abortion Pill Reversal (APR), a new application of a treatment used since the 1950’s to stop miscarriages, consists of prescribing extra Progesterone to counteract the effects of the first abortion pill. Reversals have occurred after a longer period of time, but results have been best in the first 24 hours. To date, more than 1,000 lives have been saved thanks to the Abortion Pill Rescue Network (APRN), a network of approximately 900 rescue provid-ers and centers that facilitate and/or assist with the abortion pill reversal protocol. May 19, 2020, a healthy baby girl was born. Wisdom named her Queen. To read the full story, visit life-news.com.

Depending on the circumstance at the start of the

school year, Faith Formation classes will meet either in-person or virtually.

Families that have registered for Faith

Formation classes will receive more information and our most recent updates from our Pastoral

Assistant for Faith Formation, Katelyn Greenlee.

If you have questions, please contact the office at 360-693-3052 or at [email protected].

2020 Confirmation will take place on August 19th, August 26th and

September 2nd.

The rehearsal for all three Confirmation dates will be held on Monday, August 17th at 7:00 pm in the

church. Due to the restriction of how many people we can have inside our church building, we ask that only

Confirmandi and Sponsors attend the rehearsal. This way we can comply with our 100 person limit.

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes for the families of our Confirmandi.

Please pray for our Confirmandi as they prepare to complete their spiritual initiation and receive

the gifts of the Holy Spirit!

Faith Formation Classes Begin September 13th

August—October 2020

Beginning in August, periodic nighttime single and

double lane closures will occur on I-5 and the

Interstate Bridge throughout construction.

The heaviest impacts will occur during the closure of

the northbound span of the bridge September 12-20,

2020 and the following 7-day lane closure on I-5

south. Lane closures, bridge lifts and intermittent

nighttime closures of area ramps may delay traffic

and cause congestion.

Please visit interstatrebridge.org for more infor-

mation about how this project may affect your travel

to the Proto- Cathedral and read the suggested

Travel Strategies.
