    Ten Thirty O’clock

    Activites and Youth Ministry Center

  • The Worship of Godand a Celebration of the

10th Anniversaryof the Opening of the

    Activities and Youth Ministry Center

The purpose of the Activities and Youth Ministry Center is to:

    • Strengthen the connection between the congregation of First Baptist Church and the Greenville community.

    • Provide an inexpensive and inviting place to be healthy, to belong, and to serve.

    Prelude

    Welcome of Worshipers Matt Rollins

    Meditation

  • *Hymn “Holy, Holy, Holy” NICAEA

Litany of Work (printed on inserted sheet) Mittie Taylor

  • *Hymn “Partners in Ministry” HOLY MANNA

  • Scripture Lesson Luke 13:10-17 Mary Carol Anderson

Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And just then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and was quite unable to stand up straight.

When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your ailment.” When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God.

But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had cured on the sabbath, kept saying to the crowd, “There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be cured, and not on the sabbath day.”

But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to give it water? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the sabbath day?”

When he said this, all his opponents were put to shame; and the entire crowd was rejoicing at all the wonderful things that he was doing.

    Pastoral Prayer

Choral Worship “There Is a Balm in Gilead” William L. Dawson

There is a balm in Gilead, to make the wounded whole,There is a balm in Gilead, to heal the sin-sick soul.

Sometimes I feel discouraged, And think my work’s in vain,But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again.

There is a balm in Gilead, to make the wounded whole,There is a balm in Gilead, to heal the sin-sick soul.

If you cannot sing like angels, if you cannot preach like Paul,You can tell the love of Jesus, And say “He died for all.”

There is a balm in Gilead, to make the wounded whole,There is a balm in Gilead, to heal the sin-sick soul.

Sermon Health and Holiness Jim Dant

    Benediction Frank Smith

    O God of vision,

Today, as we have for thousands of Sundays, we gather as a community of faith in celebration of your love for us. We come to you because you first came to us. We hear your call, and we are prayerfully doing our best to follow you.

Today, we also gather to dedicate a new structure to your will and work. People who love you had a vision for something that could be a tool to share your love. Thank you for your servants who dream dreams. People who love you gave their money because they believed this building was needed. Thank you for your servants who live sacrificial lives.People who love you have spent countless hours making this dream a reality. Thank you for your servants who have the gift of getting things done.People who love you are praying for the good that will happen in this space. Thank you for your servants who are faithful.

  • God, we are a privileged people.

We pray – keep us focused on you. Remind us that this new building is not an end in itself... but it is what we do with it that matters.

We pray – may this be a place... – where your presence is known. – where people find you in solitude and in communion with each other. – where laughter is heard frequently and tears are attended. – where teenagers are given the tools to know you better. – where friendships are born and spiritual development is nourished. – where recreation becomes re-creation.

We pray – may it be a place where disciples are nurtured and apostles are sent out.

Through this place and through all that you have given us, let us use what we have to join with those around us that justice, mercy and compassion will flow from your people to the ends of the earth.

In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
