Dear St. Albert Family, St. Peter, after being hailed as the "rock of faith" last week, very quickly gives us another glimpse of the failure of "doubt". Peter does not yet understand the connection be-tween faith and sacrifice. Jesus shows us by his own cross that the Kingdom of God cannot fill a heart that is full of it-self. We must allow Jesus Christ to displace our egos and self-concern, we must hate our lives or lose our lives for His sake. That's a sacrifice. We began our new school year in the Day School min-istry at St. Albert campus and at our SATG @ Assumption Academy. In both cases we have record numbers of children enrolled and we are serving the families of our catholic com-munity with superior Catholic education. I am so grateful to our parents, school staff, faculty, AND parishioners for their support of our youngest members through the ministry of Catholic Education. The Building Faith Project is moving above ground and the Parish Life Center is being prepared for the steel beams to be installed within the next few weeks. Our Building Faith: A New Generation Capital Campaign has been quietly proceeding through these strange times of the pandem-ic. Thanks to all who have been so faithful to your pledg-es. Our follow up committee will be reaching out to the pa-rishioners who have yet to respond. Thanks for responding to their efforts. As of this weekend, we expanded the Mass schedule to include the 9:30am Mass. We will wait until the current Mass attendance demands the addition of the 5:30pm Saturday and 6:00pm Sunday Masses. Our adoration chapel hours have been adjusted slightly to accommodate the change in the daily Mass schedule. With Masses now being celebrated at 8:15am Monday through Thursday, the Chapel will be open at 9:00am-6:30pm Monday through Friday. We heard 31 confessions on our August Evening of Confessions. Our next Confession Session is scheduled for September 14th from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the church. Peace,

Our Parish Mission Statement We the people of St. Albert the Great Roman Catholic parish are called to be a community of believers, rooted in the love of God, inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, led by the Holy Spirit, and centered in the Eucharist. Through our stewardship of God's gifts, we welcome all people, support family life, engage in life-long faith formation, and reach out to others in love and compassion.

Confirmation Sponsors A Confirmation candidate must select a sponsor carefully. The sponsor chosen must be, according to Church law, a fully initiated, practicing Catholic, in a valid marriage recognized by the Catholic Church, and 16 years of age or older. The spon-sor may not be a parent, since the parent already has a spiritu-al bond with the child and presents the child for Confirma-tion. A grandparent, other relative or friend may act as a spon-sor.

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are pre-sent in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I de-sire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment re-ceive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I em-brace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from you.

Choosing a Baptismal Sponsor Sponsors for Baptism must be Catho-lic, have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation and themselves actively practice our Catholic faith. The Code of Canon Law states, “Only one male or one female sponsor or one of each sex is to be employed (at Baptism).” (Canon 873) While parents may choose to have additional people informally with the title of “godparent”, the names entered into the baptismal register and appearing on any certificate have to conform to the above standards. A practicing member of one of the Or-thodox or Protestant churches may be included in baptism but only together with a Catholic sponsor. A “Christian Witness” is a baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community and together with a Catho-lic sponsor serves as witness to bap-tism.

Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to cele-brate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucha-rist during the Easter season. There are separate sessions for children or youth. You are welcome to participate in the pro-cess with your questions, your insights and your faith story in a warm accepting setting. How Will You and Your Family Celebrate the Season of Creation: Jubilee for the

Earth?

The Catholic Climate Covenant’s 2020 theme to unify Christian communities in their cele-bration of the Season of Creation is “Jubilee for the Earth: New Rhythms, New Hope.” The season begins on September 1st, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and runs through October 4th, the Feast of St. Fran-cis, who is the patron saint of ecology in many traditions. Some of us pray, some of us do hands-on projects, some of us advocate. We can all take action to protect creation and carry that momentum long after the season ends, even during a pan-demic. By seeding ongoing prayer, changes in lifestyle, and advocacy, this season grows new hope in our communities each year.

Amid crises that have shaken our world, we are awak-ened to the urgent need to heal our relationships with creation and each other. We enter a time of restoration and hope, a jubilee for our Earth, that requires radically new ways of living with creation. Now is the time to reflect on our own contribu-tion to the environmental crises and look for ways to remedy our actions. With so much injustice all around us, now is the time for Christians everywhere to come together and show the world how to love each other and creation. seasonofcrea-tion.org/ To sign up for our parish’s monthly Sustainable Liv-ing E-Newsletter, email [email protected] with ‘Newsletter’ in the subject heading.

Preparing for Next Sunday’s Mass Parish LinC Le er September 6, 2020 Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Read the following Scripture passage paying attention to a word, phrase, or idea that stands out to you:

A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans

“Brothers and sisters: Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not covet, ” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as your-self.” Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law.”

Step 1

Consider and Discuss these 3 Questions: Considering your life today....

1. What in this reading comforted you? 2. What in this reading encouraged you? 3. What in this reading challenged you? For further contemplation.... What conversion of mind, heart, and life is the Lord asking of me?

conclude by praying our “Parish Communion Prayer”

O Communion of Love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, embrace us as your children in this family of faith. Welcome us to a place at your table in the wedding feast of heaven. O Father of Mercy, forgive us as we forgive. Reconcile us as one Body in Christ and make us instruments of your Peace. O Spirit of Fire and Light, send us as your witnesses in daily life. Through our prayer, faith, and good works may we become welcoming doorways, inviting others to enter and encounter your Holy Communion of Love.

We make this prayer, Father, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and through Christ our Lord. Amen

Step 3

Four steps to LinC together at home, church meeting, or anywhere!

Make Use of One of These Communion Connections:

In our second reading, Paul writes that we “owe nothing to anyone except to love one another”, for in loving another we fulfill the law. So what is love, in fulfilling the law? It is not a set of stiff guidelines, stuffy or dull. Rather, it is loving others as we love ourselves. It is active and engaging, alive and full! It can be seen in our food shelters, “fun runs” for charities, and Christmas giving trees. We see first responders coming to the aid of COVID-19 victims, risking their lives to save the life of “the other”; or mission groups helping in disaster areas wrought with loss and despair. Love fulfilling the law is politicians from different parties working together on im-migration; a wounded victim forgiving the prisoner, or a stranger “paying it forward”.

In big and small ways, there are moments where we can practice this kind of love that fosters the well-being and good of another. Today, in a world of uncertainty, let us turn our hearts to the love that shines forth from above, and reflect that love to others. For when we love our neighbor, we fulfill the core attribute of the law by which God intends us to live. And in doing so, we become alive in Christ, living as a people of God.

Step 2

Step 4
