Hi all, hope your summer is just zooming along like mine is. It is hard to
believe it is already the last few week of July. The Fair is this week. I am excited to see what all of
you have decided to submit. I think it is my favorite part.
Things are moving right along on the Open Studio plans. We are having a fabulous opportunity this
year. The Arts Council is showcasing the 43 Artists in open Studio for their September
show. There will be a reception on the first Saturday of September celebrating these artists. I
hope you will put this date on your calendar and come by to see the art work. Open Studio is on
the 17th and 18th of September and we are still looking for some volunteers. Please call Karen
Crane if you can help.
There are so many things going on, but I know you do not want to miss this one. Our August
meeting is our annual potluck. Good food and good conversation is always available. Bring your
own place settings and a food dish to share. You never know
what will be on the menu. That is August 10th at Castle Park
club house in Ione. For questions you can always call
me. See you at the Fair.

We now have a final count of 43 artists in 20 locations. There is still
lots to do and volunteers are essential to make this a successful event.

morning August 31st starting at 10 am at the gallery located at 11A
Randolph St., Sutter Creek. Raffle items will be collected in September
and more information will follow. To add your name to the volunteers
or for additional information, call Karen Crane at 209-223-1720. Be
sure to join the Open Studios Group on Facebook for information and
marketing tips.
Pastel artist Lesley Harrison demonstrated her techniques for creating realistic animals at the July 13 meeting of the
Amador County Artists Association. Harrison works exclusively on velour paper, using a variety of dry pigments to
achieve her lifelike images. Conte and pastel pencils, along with soft and hard pastels, were the tools that brought
the image of a black horse to life. She spent a great deal of time on the eye of the horse, stating that “if you get the
eye right, you can be forgiven most anything else.” The artist teaches classes locally and throughout the coun-
try. Her schedule of classes and images of her work can be found at www.harrison-keller.com, where she also offers
step-by-step lessons to be completed at home.
