CEO’s Report

Dear Members,

I am pleased to report to members that despite some inclement weather in recent months and the start of the car park construction, the Club has continued to trade well and we remain ahead of the same position last year.

In the coming months we will be launching a tiered loyalty system for

members. The new program called Wenty Rewards has been designed to provide direct rewards back to you whenever you spend money in the Club. It is our way of rewarding you for choosing Wenty Leagues. To launch the program we will be having a special promotion throughout September for members to earn triple points on food and beverage purchases. For every dollar you spend, you will earn 6 points, which at 1c a point is the equivalent of an additional 6% discount for members. You can then use those points to redeem in the Club or to purchase other great rewards including gift and petrol cards. As a member you will be automatically eligible for Wenty Rewards and there is no additional cost to join.

The club movement continues to fight hard against the Gillard/Wilkie proposed mandatory pre-commitment legislation. This legislation has the potential to wipe out the club industry. In recent months I have written to our local papers and petitions and coasters are around the Club for you to demonstrate your opposition to the proposal. On 1 August we will be joining with other local clubs, community groups and the local community at Parramatta Leagues where everyone will let Julie Owen, our Federal Member, know how this proposal will affect them.

President’s Report

Dear Members,

In August construction starts on the first of our internal development projects. The new children’s play area is destined to be a drawcard and is an important addition to the club, given the changing nature of our local area, particularly the increasing number of young families. Our existing play area has proven incapable of handling the volume of families now choosing to frequent the club and the new internal play area

should provide a more comfortable experience for both families and those members without children.

Construction will also start this month on a refurbishment of our existing main foyer. The newly refurbished foyer will not only improve the efficiency of the area through the provision of improved technology, but will give Wenty Leagues a more inviting entry befitting a club of our stature. Both projects are scheduled to be completed this year.

Despite a couple of cold and rainy months, the carpark redevelopment continues to progress well. Under the construction schedule we anticipate the new carpark adjacent to the Club opening in the next couple of months, at which time construction of the entrance off The Great Western highway will begin. At all times we will be working to maintain existing car parking numbers to ensure that there is no disruption to our members.

Along with the entrance from The Great Western highway, a new grand entrance sign is presently being designed. The construction of this new sign has presented us with an ideal opportunity to revisit the Club’s branding and in particular our Club logo. The brief was to design a logo which re-incorporated the Club’s iconic Magpie emblem and traditional colours in a bold, stylish and modern design. I look forward to sharing it with you shortly.

Pink Ribbon BreakfastOn Thursday 26 May, more than 100 staff, members and guests attended a special fundraising breakfast in Lucido hosted by Wenty Leagues employee Nadia Shlimon. The breakfast included a range of different activities and was supported by Wenty Leagues and a number of local businesses, raising $4,290 for breast cancer research.

Wenty Leagues recently purchased a new cubby house for the children of the hunter Baillie Ward at The Children’s hospital, Westmead.

hunter Baillie Ward, affectionately known as ‘hB’ is a large medical ward catering for children 0-11 years. Attached to the hB ward are two outdoor areas, but sadly the areas were devoid of any meaningful play equipment for the children of hB.

The cubby house for hB was modified to include a ramp and larger entry so that wheelchair bound children and their carers can also access it to play with other children on the ward.

Wenty supports youngsters preparing for ‘Big School’One of the most daunting aspects of adjusting to life in Australia for new migrants can be enrolling their young children into school. Often the children and their parents have limited english language skills and limited support networks. One local school, Parramatta West Public School, in a program funded by a $20,000 Wenty Leagues CDSe Grant has been addressing this issue with a special Playgroup. The Playgroup helps both children and parents learn english, adjust to Australian culture and build friendship groups.

Wenty treat Ronald McDonald House to dinnerThe Ronald McDonald house is a ‘home away from home’ for families from country and regional areas whose children are being treated at the Children’s hospital at Westmead. To give the families some much needed respite, Wenty’s catering team volunteered their time, skills and ingredients to cook up a two course feast for the families staying at the house.

CongratulationsWenty Leagues Club’s Marketing Coordinator - Justin Coulton, won the Outstanding Youth Award in the holroyd City Local Business Awards for 2011.

Foyer Refurbishment

The existing main foyer will be getting a makeover commencing in August.To accommodate the increasing traffic through the main foyer once the new carpark opens, the area will be redesigned to provide increased space for patrons and greater efficiency.

The existing air lock and the bottle shop, which has seen declining sales in recent years due to increased competition from liquor superstores such as Dan Murphy’s, will be removed to make way for a new membership reception area. Takeaway liquor sales will be transferred to the Wentworth Bar.

The manual sign in registers will be replaced by new electronic sign in terminals capable of signing in visitors quickly and effectively.

A new information desk will incorporate additional computers to process membership sales, ticket sales and membership rewards.

The existing stairs leading up to the club will be widened and the lift will be refurbished in line with the new finish in the foyer.

The fitout of the area will be brought up to a much higher standard with stone, timber, fabric, lighting and beautiful carpeting being used as finishes.

There will be some disruption during construction, however all services and access through the main foyer area into the club will be maintained throughout the construction phase.

new stand for Ringrose ParkThe Board of Directors have committed to replace the dilapidated stand on the western side of Ringrose Park with a new stand. The new stand will contain a mix of covered and uncovered seating and its construction will be staged over a number of years as funding becomes available. Planning is underway with discussions being held with council to seek approval to construct the stand.

Construction is scheduled to begin in August on a new kids play area.With the tremendous growth in the number of young families enjoying Wenty Leagues, this new area will provide an even better experience for them.

Featuring a maze of crawl tubes, a massive double slide, a movie room, Playstation video games and a ‘little kiddies’ area, the new play area is sure to be a massive hit with both kids and parents.

The new play area is being constructed in the corner of the Lucido/Lawsons Lounge. To accommodate the play area the existing Lucido stage area will be closed on the weekend of 5/6 August whilst it is relocated to a new location adjacent to the play area.

At last report the NSW Cup competition had completed Round 7 with mixed results, winning 3, losing 3 and 1 bye. Since then, they have had a bye in week 8, a loss to the strong Central Coast Centurions, a win over North Sydney and another loss to Western suburbs which left Coach Brett Cook searching for answers. Things started to change with players in the Parramatta NRL squad gradually recovering from injuries, meaning Wenty started to get players back. With Manase Manuokafoa and Pele Peletelese playing well along with the inclusion of Anthony Mitchell, Daniel Mortimer, Reni Maitua, Carl Webb, Tom humble, Chris hicks, Chris Walker and karl Filiga a different complexion and strength to the team has resulted. A big win over the then competition leaders Auckland Vulcans was followed by a narrow loss to Newtown. From that point on the team has not looked back and have strung together strong wins against Cronulla, Central Coast and Windsor and are now climbing up the ladder to be well entrenched in the top five.If Brett Cook can maintain the basis of the team a challenge for the Premiership is a real possibility.On the down side we have lost Anthony Mitchell to the Roosters but have gained Matt Ryan from Balmain and Joseph Paulo from Windsor. Both are top players who will only strengthen the side further.Congratulations to Tom humble and Daniel Mortimer who were selected in the NSW Residents side to play the curtain raiser at Suncorp Stadium prior to the 3rd State of Origin and to Brett Mckenna who was appointed Manager of the team for the second time.Bundy Cup

Five wins and three losses after 8 Rounds had the team well in the finals race but were inconsistent to say the least. This can be put down to the ever changing personnel due to promotions to NSW Cup. Losses to St Johns, Cabramatta and a narrow loss to The entrance had Coach Aaron McDonald’s hair changing colour. however, with the NSW Cup having more Parramatta players available, a flow on effect has occurred. With players coming back to Bundy, Aaron now has a talent pool available that is giving him problems of a different kind. From Round 12 onwards the side has only been defeated by Competition-frontrunners Mounties in a close encounter. They have won four, including a big win over the strong The entrance. With the increasing stability it is only a matter of time before this side gels and becomes a powerhouse with every chance of defending the Premiership won last season.For those people that enjoy watching good Rugby League I suggest you could do worse than follow your Wenty sides in the NSW and Bundy Cup competitions.Ron Bottle - Secretary

GOLFFirst quarter winners in each grade were Mark O’Brien (A Grade), Rei Reihana (B Grade) and Norm hindy (C Grade). Second quarter winners were Charlie Bannerman (A Grade), Rob Trent (B Grade) and Troy Tyson (C Grade). Tosca Lipovic once again won the over 50’s. This is becoming a habit for Tosca who has now won this event 3 times. Rei Reihana is playing great golf over the past 2 months and is now in A Grade. Also playing well is Rob Trent, who is also in A Grade and Troy Tyson (no relation to Mike) is now in B Grade and is looking thinner these days. Our Stableford Championships have finished with the winners being Charlie Bannerman (A Grade), Marc Weyman (B Grade) and Arthur Stephens (C Grade). Our members who play in the Prospect team had a very successful outcome at the Sydney Metropolitan Indoor Bowls Competition which was held over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. We scored the runner up prize in the Mixed Fours and the Ladies Fours. SWIMMInGI haven’t much to report as we are still in our off season. We return in October for our new season (date to be announced).On the long weekend in June we went down to Queenbeyan for a Legacy Carnival. it was its 25 year Anniversary. On the Saturday afternoon there was a game of lawn bowls for swimmers to get to know each other. Then on Saturday night we had a Meet and Greet with finger food and a lovely sit down meal afterwards with a dance band to have a good night. On Sunday morning we had to be out at Duntroon by 8am for our swimming events. Then we returned to the Bowling Club for a sit down dinner where prizes were given out and there were also a heap of raffles to be won. Some of our members were lucky enough to win. We didn’t have much success in the swimming events, except Dennis hill who came second in the 25 metre handicap with yet another race furthest away from

his time. Wenty was unlucky in the Crocodile Cup. Winners were Corrimal (+93), wenty 2nd (+96) 3rd austinmer (+113).Attending this year also were the Paraplegic swimmers. LInEDAnCInGLinedancing has been as popular as ever recently. Currently our dancers have made huge waves in the media with the filming of Ch 9 Today Show, discussion of our linedancers on ABC radio 702 with Deborah Cameron and our newspaper story in the hills News. In coming months keep your eyes peeled as the Senior newspaper has also expressed interest in our linedancers for their August issue.Where do the dancers get all their energy? Considering most of the linedancers are mature to very mature and the sessions are anywhere from 1 to 4 hours in duration. The dancers find that life is sweeter when they are active. In the coming months there are plenty of classes especially for beginners and social activities galore. The fun to be had is there for everyone and anyone to enjoy. After just one 8 week beginners course, the linedancers never look back. For the next couple of months due to the resealing need of the complex floor surface, our regular sessions have been transferred to the Parramatta RSL until further notice. Merit Badges (the highest honour in bowls) were presented to A Bramman and B Craig. A Tie Bar went to U Bendt while broaches were awarded to Lady members A Stephens and S Jamieson.The Royal NSW Bowling Association names a Charity each

year and clubs donate to this worthy cause. This year the

Charity is the Queensland Flood Appeal. Our club raised

QUInLAn SHIELDThe final round was completed on May 18 with Wenty

defeating Canterbury. Wenty Bowls won 8-4, Table Tennis

lost 4-5 and Snooker won 8-1. overall wenty won 4-2.

Wenty played Canterbury in the Final as Wenty finished in

3rd and Canterbury 2nd on a count back. The final was

played at mounties on June 1. our Snooker team won 5-1,

Bowls lost 7-3 with (four games lost on the last bowl) and

Table Tennis lost 5-1. overall wenty lost 4-2 to Canterbury.

In the Grand final Canterbury defeated Mounties 4-2 to be

Premiers in 2011.

The individual competition commenced on June 22 and

our 3 teams qualified for the final:

Snooker - After leading 4-2 in the singles, unfortunately

wenty lost the 3 doubles to lose 5-4 overall to norths.

Table Tennis - Canterbury proved too strong, defeating

wenty 5-1.

Bowls - In a neck and neck battle with Norths, Wenty won

the last two pairs to win 7-5.

The Grand finals of the individuals were held at Wenty

Leagues on June 29 and some very tough games ensued:

Table Tennis – Canterbury overcame mounties 5-1

Snooker – mounties defeated norths 5-3

Bowls – Leading 6-2 at the conclusion of the singles,

Wenty only needed a draw in one of the four pairs

matches. Wenty lost the first two pairs to make it 6-4.

Wenty went on to win the third pairs match to emerge

as the winners over Canterbury. Congratulations Wenty

Leagues - Bowls Champions.

This concludes the Quinlan Shield for 2011. The next

SQUASHWenty Leagues Squash Club continued their dominance of the Division 1 Squash Pennants with a very convincing win over Minor Premiers, Northmead. This is the team’s fourth win in the past five competitions. Once again players Anthony Trott, Ray Smith, John Laurie, Danny hedges, Danny Thomas and John Wachowicz (c) get their names added to the very prestigious Vanderfield Perpetual Trophy which has been in play since the early 1960’s, symbolic of A Grade supremacy in the Western Districts. The night was further highlighted by the spirit in which all players participated - A tremendous display of good sportsmanship.Two of our other sides who made the Grand Final, Division 11 and Division 12, were both narrowly beaten. Div 11 by one game and Div 12 by one point.The 2011 Spring Pennant Competition commences on 16 August with the Grand Final being played during the week commencing 12 December 2011. We will be entering six teams in the Winter Competition with most teams using the table tennis area Tuesday through Thursday to participate in their inter club matches. The schedule will be posted on the notice board as a guideline and please direct any further inquiries to the secretary.The Quinlan Shield competition run on Wednesday nights has also been completed with Table Tennis finishing in third position on the ladder.As always all players, new or experienced, are most welcome on Monday evenings for our handicap competition. We have revamped the format to encourage players who have not only participated in the past but as always we are seeking to grow our sport within the club with new players particularly welcome. Registration from 7pm - Competition commences at 7.45 pm.For the more serious competitor why not join us on Friday evening for our training session to improve your skills against players of your own level and challenge yourself against all comers. WEntY LEAGUES nEtBALL CLUBnetball is the most popular women’s sport in Australia with an estimated one million players nation-wide. Catering for all playing levels and age groups, the Wenty Leagues Netball Club has a team to suit everyone. Competition age groups range from 6yrs to 17yrs in the Junior grades and from C9 up to A1 in the Senior grades. For the tiny tots they even have a Nursery Level with the youngest being 4yrs old. The age of club members currently ranges from 4 to 40 however we encourage everyone of any age to give it a go if they are interested. Wenty Leagues Netball Club plays with the Blacktown City Netball Association. They moved into this competition at the beginning of the year after 46 years at Parramatta Auburn Netball Association. All competition games are played at International Peace Park at Blacktown (next to Blacktown Aquatic Centre). Training is held every week during the playing season on a designated week night - never Fridays. All training is at the Monty Bennett Oval netball courts, which are adjacent to Wenty Leagues. Besides playing netball, the club players also get together for a bit of fun with social nights and team dinners throughout the season. The Netball Club also hold trivia nights, market nights and have well attended presentations.Wenty Leagues Netball Club is a friendly club who are very family-orientated. Registration for the 2012 season takes place in early February. WEntY LEAGUES BY-LAWS

In accordance with Rule 103. (b) of the Club’s Constitution, please find following a copy of the Club’s By-Laws:

Ringrose Park

1. Board dispensation is required for any games to kick off after 6.00pm on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

2. That the Facilities Manager in consultation with the Green keeper (who has the final say) are to be contacted and in agreeance for the use of Ringrose Park.

3. That the wentworthville united Junior Rugby League Football Club have general control of the Ringrose Park canteen. Persons wishing to use the canteen would require permission from the Junior Football Club.

4. That a standard size is required for signage in Ringrose Park. The Maintenance Manager would be requested to measure the advertising signs in Ringrose Park to ascertain the standard size for future reference.

Membership

5. That from 1 September 1989, members joining will no longer be eligible for mortality fund benefits.

6. That $500 be donated towards the cost of wakes held at wenty Leagues for Foundation members retrospective from October 2008 and the Sponsorship Committee will table a recommendation for a tiered system of payments for other membership categories.

Sub Clubs

7. Any requests from the Sub Club only be accepted through the Secretary of the sporting club concerned and be approved by the Sub Club’s Committee.

8. That the position of Director should be a standing membership position within all sporting associations and no further fees should be paid for this position and should be covered within the grants each year.

9. That where possible vouchers for donations are provided for use in the Lucido Restaurant for Wednesday and Thursday.

10. Sub Clubs are to hold all functions being financed by Board allocations on Club premises, with the purchase of liquor and food from the Club only.

11. That all requests for payment from Grants must be in writing and contain an explanation for the reason for the request.

12. That Sub Committees be advised that they must advise Board of all sponsors.

13. The budgets for the sporting and recreation clubs have to be submitted by late november or early December each year. The Board would meet in late November to discuss and approve the budgets then the clubs would have money for the beginning of the year when they plan their competitions and functions.

14. That each sub club is to provide a current membership list with their budgets. For Junior Clubs, the list should reflect the number of members of the Junior Club.
