Review

• Number Sets– Natural Numbers {1,2,3,…}– Whole Numbers {0,1,2,…}– Integers {…,-2,-1,0,1,2,…}– Odd Numbers {…,-3,-1,1,3,…}

Page 18: August12 agenda

Lesson Objectives

• Find missing numbers equal groups questions• Write and solve equations from word

problems• Match a problem situation to an equation

representing the situation

Page 19: August12 agenda

Equal Groups Problems

• Number of Groups = n• Number in each Group = g• Total = t

• n * g = t

Page 20: August12 agenda

Think of it in terms of Rate

• Like rate of travel (mph)• Find the rate of the problem

• Rate = r• Amount of time rate is carried out = a• Total = t

r * a = t

• DON’T FORGET UNITS IF NECESSARY!

Page 21: August12 agenda

Example #1

In the library, the chairs were arranged in rows with 15 chairs in each row. If there were 360 chairs, how many rows of chairs were there?

Page 22: August12 agenda

n * g = t

n * 15 = 360

n = 360 / 15

n = 24 rows

Page 23: August12 agenda

Example #2

The total cost for five student tickets to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was $28.75. What was the cost of one ticket? What would the cost of 7 tickets be?

Page 24: August12 agenda

n * g = t

5 * g = 28.75

g = 28.75 / 5

g = 5.75

Page 25: August12 agenda

Example #3

• Emil sorted 375 quarters into groups of 40 so that he could put them into rolls. How many rolls can Emil fill with quarters?

Page 26: August12 agenda

n * g = t

n * 40 = 375

g = 375 / 40

g = 9 r.15
