Page 1: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Given the end elevation of a book with pages A, B, C, D, E and F open at thirty degrees to each other.

Page 2: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Draw in the elevation of the book bringing construction lines from the end view.

Page 3: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Draw the plan of the open book.

Page 4: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Draw in the picture plane and the spectator point.

Page 5: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Draw in the horizon line and the ground line.

Page 6: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

From the station point, draw a line parallel to the side of the book until it strikes the picture plane.

Page 7: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

From this point, perpendicular to the picture plane drop a line down to the horizon line to establish the right-hand vanishing point.

Page 8: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Repeat the previous steps to establish the left-hand vanishing point.

Page 9: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Next we have to find the auxiliary vanishing points. As pages F and B are inclined at thirty degrees, draw a line at thirty degrees to the parallel line that establishes VPR.

Page 10: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

From the parallel line that establishes VPR, draw a line perpendicular to it where it strikes the picture plane.

Page 11: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Record the distance h and step it off with a compass directly above and below VPR to establish AUX B and AUX F.

Page 12: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

We can see that pages E and C are inclined at sixty degrees.

Page 13: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

As pages E and C are inclined at sixty degrees, draw a line at sixty degrees to the parallel line that establishes VPR.

Page 14: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Again draw a perpendicular line at the picture plane.

Page 15: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Record the distance k and step it off with a compass directly above and below VPR to establish AUX C and AUX E.

Page 16: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Now we can see four auxiliary vanishing points.

Page 17: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

As this corner of the book touches the picture plane it is a true length in perspective.

Page 18: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Connect this corner in perspective to the two vanishing points to establish the front two sides of the book.

Page 19: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Draw lines of sight from the spectator to the two outer corners of the book in plan.

Page 20: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Where these lines of sight cut the picture plane drop vertical lines which will establish the outline of the book in perspective.

Page 21: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Bring lines of sight back to both vanishing points from the outer edges of the book.Join page F in plan back to the

spectator point.

Page 22: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Draw two lines parallel to the picture plane where these lines cut.

Page 23: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Auxiliary vanishing point F is used to draw page F in perspective.

Page 24: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

The exact same thing is done for page E. Join page E in plan back to the spectator point.

Page 25: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Again draw two lines parallel to the picture plane where these lines cut.

Page 26: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Like page F, auxiliary vanishingpoint E is used to draw page E in perspective.

Page 27: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Draw in page E.

Page 28: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Page D is drawn simply as it doesn’t need an auxiliary vanishing point.

Page 29: Auliliaryvanishingpoints

Pages C and B are drawn using the exact same procedure as pages E and F.
