Once, a girl named Cindy,At NTH@C
Had something to sayAbout our AUP.
All learners at New TechGet computers- How cool! But Cindy wanted to know:What were the rules at this
school?
So Cindy took a look at our AUPAfter reading it she found,
With these things she agreed:“The User Responsibility Section clearly addresses the way that a person in the district should behave while using CISD internet and computers. Our AUP addresses how you should be polite, use appropriate language, privacy, and disruptions.”
“CISD filters emails for the protection of the users, which is a plus for us. We shouldn’t look at it as a restriction, but as an advantage to keep everyone safe while emailing on the web.”
“We believe that our disciplinary action section has taken into account all of the circumstances, and states what will happen if violated.”
Some parts of our currentAUP were great,
But to Cindy it seemedThere was more to create.
Since each learner getsA laptop of their own
There ought to be rulesOn how to use them at home:
“Home use: Students may use their district computers to view websites at home that would normally not be permitted at school, provided that the websites they view are not illegal, pornographic, or obscene. The student may also not use district computers at home to sell a product (unless it is related to a school fundraiser). An example of appropriate home use would be checking a personal email.”
Kids also must knowWhat should and should not
Be downloaded ontoTheir district laptops:
“Downloads: Students may download software for noneducational purposes, including games, to their district computers. Any downloads must fit within the following requirements: - The download must be legal.- The download must not impede the computer’s performance- The download cannot be pornographic or obscene (this includes rude or offensive im-ages, discrimination, and foul language)”
Finally,Cindy saw with a start,
Site blocks weren’t addressedSo we added this part:
“Any websites that contain offensive, obscene, pornographic, or illegal material should be blocked within CISD networks. Exceptions to the rule are Facebook and Youtube, as these can be used for edu-cational purposes. When a student is doing research on the internet, they will be allowed access to 6 websites that would normally be blocked for each six-week grading period. The sites will remain unblocked for a maximum time of 10 minutes and can be visited a maximum of 2 times within the school network. This is so that students can finish their research. Please note that while these site blocks only apply in school, students are expected to avoid obscene, pornographic, and illegal websites at home.”
Cindy smiled a broad smileAt the new policy,
