It is not often that the administration of the Adventist University of the Philippines officially sends a representative purely to visit the alumni in the United States. Maybe it finally dawned on them that the Alumni have an integral role in the growth and development of the institution. Then by coincidence, the Adventist University of the Philippines is embarking on its newest project – the AUP College of Medicine Building Project, scheduled to open June 2014. Considering the need for funds to build the College of Medicine building, the alumni association in the United States, AWESNA and EASNAC, are being tapped to provide some badly needed financial assistance.

After attending the AWESNA Convention in the West Coast during the Labor Day weekend, Pastor Cadalig has barnstormed the United States in search of alumni members he can share the news with about AUP and its College of Medicine. He attended the Southern Texas AUP Convention and met with the members of EASNAC’s Lone Star subchapter

He has been to the Midwest subchapter based in Chicago before he arrived in the East Coast to visit the other alumni subchapters of EASNAC, New York, New Jersey, Florida and the Nation’s Capital in Maryland.

Pastor Max Cadalig spoke during the Hour of Worship, during his visit to the First Filipino SDA Church of New Jersey in Plainfield, New Jersey. In the afternoon, an open-forum session with the alumni was held to answer concerns of the alumni ranging from the parent’s concerns with their children studying at AUP to the current state of AUP and its College of Medicine. Other concerns were: communication, public relation problems, customer-service, how members of the faculty relate to the students culturally and otherwise. Other things include horrendous “red-tapes” in processes and policies that are hoops they have to go through. The cultural difference between the Philippines and the United States may be the cause of some of the problems. Seminars for both faculty and students that provide information on cultures may not only help the adjustment of the North America students but students from other countries as well.

Pastor Cadalig took notes of the questions and concerns posted by the alumni to find answers or present them to the AUP Administration when he goes back at the end of October. Being new to this job, Pastor Cadalig could only promise at best, to address these issues when he returns to the campus.

It is anticipated that as the number of students from North America increase, there will be a smooth transition in their stay at AUP. There are about a hundred of them presently enrolled.

What EASNAC Members Need To Know Joint Convention with AWESNA in 2014

The scheduled EASNAC Convention in Chicago will not happen next year in 2014.

Instead, there will be a joint AWESNA-EASNAC convention, with AWESNA as host. EASNAC acceded to the request of AWESNA to have a joint convention during their Labor Day weekend convention.

Since the decision to have a convention in Chicago was made by a body during an EASNAC convention, we had to go back to the body to reconsider the decision.

This was done by having the Presidents of the EASNAC subchapters poll their membership with this change of venue and the decision to join AWESNA. The decision to have a joint convention with AWESNA was won by a majority decision of the subchapters.

Thus, we will have a joint convention with AWESNA in Henderson, Nevada during the Labor Day weekend, August 29-31, 2014. Henderson, Nevada is located in the outskirts of Las Vegas, Nevada, about thirty minutes from the Las Vegas airport.

Please plan on this event. This will be the 4th joint convention of AWESNA and EASNAC. The first was held in Houston, followed by Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and in Washington DC at the Gaylord Hotel on 2011.

EASNAC, Inc.

Please note the changes in EASNAC. With the incorporation of EASNAC, the bad news is, it will no longer be required to pay your membership fee. The good news is, you now can now give tax-deductible donations in lieu of membership fees. Our annual fee was $25 and has not changed for the last 18 years. We will rely on your benevolent spirit for your individual subchapter.

We do not know the outcome of this planned-giving to fund our association. We are hoping that you will donate individual funds for the operation of our association and its important other projects. We urge you to support our EASNAC alumni association.

EASNAC too will concentrate on reaching its $1,000,000.00 (One Million Dollars) Endowment Fund to be able to support the Adventist University of the Philippines.
