It is not often that the administration of the Adventist University of the Philippinesofficially sends a representative purely to visit the alumni in the United States.Maybe it finally dawned on them that the Alumni have an integral role in thegrowth and development of the institution. Then by coincidence, the AdventistUniversity of the Philippines is embarking on its newest project the AUP Collegeof Medicine Building Project, scheduled to open June 2014. Considering the need forfunds to build the College of Medicine building, the alumni association in the UnitedStates, AWESNA and EASNAC, are being tapped to provide some badly neededfinancial assistance.

After attending the AWESNA Convention in the West Coast during the Labor Dayweekend, Pastor Cadalig has barnstormed the United States in search of alumnimembers he can share the news with about AUP and its College of Medicine. Heattended the Southern Texas AUP Convention and met with the members of

    EASNACs Lone Star subchapter

He has been to the Midwest subchapter based in Chicago before he arrived in theEast Coast to visit the other alumni subchapters of EASNAC, New York, New

Jersey, Florida and the Nations Capital in Maryland.

Pastor Max Cadalig spoke during the Hour of Worship, during his visit to the FirstFilipino SDA Church of New Jersey in Plainfield, New Jersey. In the afternoon, anopen-forum session with the alumni was held to answer concerns of the alumniranging from the parents concerns with their children studying at AUP to the

current state of AUP and its College of Medicine. Other concerns were:communication, public relation problems, customer-service, how members of thefaculty relate to the students culturally and otherwise. Other things includehorrendous red-tapes in processes and policies that are hoops they have to gothrough. The cultural difference between the Philippines and the United States maybe the cause of some of the problems. Seminars for both faculty and students thatprovide information on cultures may not only help the adjustment of the NorthAmerica students but students from other countries as well.

Pastor Cadalig took notes of the questions and concerns posted by the alumni to findanswers or present them to the AUP Administration when he goes back at the end ofOctober. Being new to this job, Pastor Cadalig could only promise at best, to addressthese issues when he returns to the campus.

It is anticipated that as the number of students from North America increase, therewill be a smooth transition in their stay at AUP. There are about a hundred of thempresently enrolled.

What EASNAC Members Need To KnowJoint Convention with AWESNA in 2014

The scheduled EASNAC Convention in Chicago will not happen next year in 2014.Instead, there will be a joint AWESNA-EASNAC convention, with AWESNA ashost. EASNAC acceded to the request of AWESNA to have a joint conventionduring their Labor Day weekend convention.

Since the decision to have a convention in Chicago was made by a body during anEASNAC convention, we had to go back to the body to reconsider the decision.

This was done by having the Presidents of the EASNAC subchapters poll theirmembership with this change of venue and the decision to join AWESNA. Thedecision to have a joint convention with AWESNA was won by a majority decisionof the subchapters.

Thus, we will have a joint convention with AWESNA in Henderson, Nevada duringthe Labor Day weekend, August 29-31, 2014. Henderson, Nevada is located in theoutskirts of Las Vegas, Nevada, about thirty minutes from the Las Vegas airport.

Please plan on this event. This will be the 4th joint convention of AWESNA andEASNAC. The first was held in Houston, followed by Vancouver, British Columbia,Canada; and in Washington DC at the Gaylord Hotel on 2011.

    EASNAC, Inc.

Please note the changes in EASNAC. With the incorporation of EASNAC, the badnews is, it will no longer be required to pay your membership fee. The good news is,you now can now give tax-deductible donations in lieu of membership fees. Ourannual fee was $25 and has not changed for the last 18 years. We will rely on yourbenevolent spirit for your individual subchapter.

We do not know the outcome of this planned-giving to fund our association. We arehoping that you will donate individual funds for the operation of our associationand its important other projects. We urge you to support our EASNAC alumniassociation.

EASNAC too will concentrate on reaching its $1,000,000.00 (One Million Dollars)Endowment Fund to be able to support the Adventist University of the Philippines.
