    FROM THE EASNAC PRESIDENTS DESK

    A Time for Action

    by Salcor B. Quines

In 2001, under the leadership of Dr. Conrado Miranda IV, who was also theEASNAC President (2000-2002), the PUC/AUP Alumni Association, USA, Inc.(Foundation) was incorporated. It is a separate and legal tax-exempt corporation runand managed by a duly elected board of directors and governed by its own by-laws.One of the reasons why this Foundation was organized is to have contributions anddonations, especially from EASNAC members, exempt from Federal income taxunder Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. During its inception,

a goal was set to raise a million dollars in five years.

Twelve years have past and still we are very far from reaching the goal. Accordingto the Foundation Treasurer, Ramoncito Pugao, as of December 31, 2012, thebalance in the account is $188,606.86, which includes the accumulated interests of$14,872.10, earned on all investments. Also, the financial statement shows thatmost of the funds are restricted. Due to these restrictions and other logisticalreasons, the EASNAC Board of Trustees in 2010 recommended to the constituencythat one legal tax-exempt alumni organization manage all the activities and projectsof the PUC/AUP Alumni of the Eastern North America Chapter. The constituency, in

session, approved this recommendation and immediately notified Dr. IrineoPantangco, Jr., current President of the Foundation.

In the three years since that vote, nothing has happened. The Foundations Boardof Directions has taken no action. The EASNAC Executive Committee has taken noaction. No action has been taken to unify these two organizations.

It is time to take action!

On August 24, 2013, the EASNAC Executive Committee will be holding their regular

business meeting in Beltsville, Maryland. The Foundation Board of Directors will alsomeet at the same time in the same location. There is no better time to address thissituation and implement the will of the general constituency.

To that end I am calling a special conference to resolve this issue once and for all. Iurge all Board of Directors and all Officers to attend the Business Meeting in August. It is time for the leaders of these two organizations to take responsibility for our

    inaction.

The resolution of this organizational issue has taken far too long. It is my belief thatour failure to resolve this situation has severely hampered the ability of EASNAC tomeet its stated goals.

It is my hope that this will change.
