Dear Sasha: Messages from Your AngelsSasha GABRIEL White, Columnist

When Palm Sunday and Easter arrive, our dedication is widely pronounced. We

are always spiritual and yet this month holds glory and resurrection for many of us. For as we resurrect, so shall I stand in the midst of

you. Every day my sermon states to believe in yourself, knowing that when we touch the hem of a garment that has been annointed by God, our DNA is heightened. When I create, teach, heal, inspire, etc., generally, I feel good. If I cannot feel all right, then the resurrection did not anoint my spirit and I must recharge my DNA thoroughly. How to do this is the point. In connecting with my Higher Teacher, my spirit enfolds and uplifts not only me but also everyone around me. For then, my aura is filled with glory and abundant light.

What is resurrection but a deep change within as well as the abun-dant light flowing inside your third eye via the crown? Who am I during this process of enlightenment? Where do I go, in consciousness, when I am afraid? How do I see myself when my peers are friendly, neat and calm and my persona is haphazard? Where do I go, within myself, when I am leaning forward in my spiritual design? Have I completed my destiny and was I charged with honor? All of these questions are related to your pattern and resurrecting spirit. Try to answer them and begin to feel like you have changed. Complete your annual checkup by counting your many blessings, knowing that spring has sprung and life is more buoyant. For when we begin to calculate our fantasies, pronouncing them instead of grieving over them, we are masters instead of disciples. We are trying to become more to our friends and relatives because they are not as hopeful as we have be-come. For with hope, honor, trust, and faith, human/adult behavior reigns. Thus, we are creating a towering planetary alignment. We are becoming anointed because we are communicating via God’s Angels and enlightened Masters.

Dear Sasha, I’ve been sick for 5 years from mold exposure. When am I going to be over this? Holly, 41, Pipe Creek, TX

Dear Holly, You are going to improve your health as soon as you change your diet. If you will live on 60-80% raw food verses cooked food your problem will be over. Continue to drink a lot of water and drink two cups of carrot juice a month. Make sure you drink it immediately after juicing so you get the live enzymes. Once you feel good/exercise and eat well, then you can dedicate yourself to writing. When you were born, Raphael said that He would take you as a teacher or a writer.

Dear Sasha, I’m a new empty nester with a six-year-old grand-child in my care. I’m not sure what’s next with my marriage or employment. Any advice? Jacqui, 43, Round Rock, TX

Dear Jacqui, Congratulations on your empty nest. You now have time for you. Seems like you are going to get your husband’s attention, for he is thinking that the two of you shall at least vaca-tion again. Good job. As far as work & retirement, it looks to me

like they are almost the same. Keep work & play simultaneous and your name will be delight. Have fun.

Dear Sasha, I just moved here from Dallas in hopes of success & financial stability. Will I have the same professional success here in the same field that I’m in? Will I meet a great man and fall in love? Aquarius, 45, Austin, TX

Dear Aquarius, You will have better success than you had in Dal-las in a different field. You will have more fun and get more atten-tion here than you did in the last place. Don’t give up, the writing is on the wall: your success is here.

Dear Sasha, Why am I so worn out physically, emotionally & mentally? How do I get my life back on the right path? Elli, 61, San Antonio, TX

Dear Elli, You are about ready to feel better if you eat more raw food. You need to have a lengthy private session for you are neither assimilating the foods that you eat nor digesting most of them. You must feel sluggish. Start walking and eating living foods and you will at least get better overnight.

Working with the Cause of IllnessMeridian Grace, n.D., Columnist

Have you ever wondered if it were pos-sible to clearly know what the cause

of a health problem that you are dealing with is? If what you are eating is really the

best for you? And what about those supplements that you are taking? Are they really the best ones for your body at this time? So and so said that___________ (you fill in the name) did something wonderful for them…wishful thinking sets in and we think, maybe it will work for me too. How many times do we find that that just isn’t the case?…and you have spent your hard earned money on something that really just doesn’t work for you. If you are like me, you probably hear about some new exciting supplement, read some marketing material or research, and then off you go to buy it. But do you know if it will really help you? My new testing equipment will tell us this and much more. Almost every day, a client walks into my office and tells me that they have been to medical doctors, spent hours on the net researching, are either thoroughly confused or spent a fortune on supplements, tried numerous philosophies of eating, and have not achieved the result that they so desperately desired. Our bodies are profoundly complex. One of the things my mentors taught is that, “Anything can contribute to health problem any where else in the body.” On the cellular level it is not as simple as the foot bone is connected to the ankle bone… Chinese medicine tells us that the foot has meridians to the gallbladder, liver, stomach, spleen, kidney and bladder running through it. Even if you know the locations of the meridians on the body, why is there a blockage in the meridian? Is it a toxic substance, virus, bacteria, fungus, etc. What about a physical or emotional trauma to the area? These are just a few of the chal-lenges we face when looking for cause of illness. How can we know how to truly get to the cause of our health challenges? This year I invested in an extraordinary testing and treating device that is designed to show us the causal chain of our health challenges, and make one homeopathic remedy for you that includes all the contributing factors that showed up on the test. It tests for thousands of allergens, antibodies, toxins, hormones, neuro-transmiters, and body parts, meridians, chakras, etc. It also looks within the entire materia medica for homeopathics and more than my inventory, for the nutrients that are most needed to return the body to balance. Among the many things that it reveals are antibodies, chemical sensitivi-ties including phenols, frank nutritional deficiencies, hormonal

imbalances, neuro-transmitter imbalances as well as vertebral mis-alignments and cranial suture problems, organ, chakra and meridian imbalances. After it has energetically scanned the energy field for the imbalances and found the nutrients and homeopathic substances that will balance the system, it actually makes a single homeopathic remedy that holds all the energetic signatures within it. One of the strongest experiences I have had to date with my new acquisition, is when a fellow practioner came to see me with Kidney Cancer that had metastasized to 8 different locations. She had been successful in self treating to the point where 7 of her me-tastases were gone but still had the original site and one metastasis left. We did her test, the machine made her remedy and she took the drops that were recommended. Within a couple of minutes she told me that the ongoing pain that she had experienced for months in her kidney area was gone. To put it mildly, she, her mother and I were in deep celebration and gratitude. My clients and I generally have moments of awe, as we go through the report generated. The report will often mention symptoms they forgot to mention to me when we did our intake. One of my clients brought her pre-puberty daughter in…and as we were testing, there were a number of hormone precursors that showed up. The test showed us how to support her in having the gentlest transition into her womanhood. Her mother was so grateful to be able to help her daughter in this way. The three of us sat together, like sisters in a rite of passage, laughing, and deeply sharing…wishing we could offer such support to all young women. The equipment I am working with is called an ASYRA. If you google ASYRA online you can find out about the back-ground, research and clinical medical studies done in the uS and abroad on the accuracy of this testing and treating technology. I am so delighted to bring this technology to Austin. If you would like to experience it first hand I would love to offer you the rem-edy that it generates for free, as my gift to you. Please feel free to call or email for more information.

A study done in 1999 at the uCLA School of Medicine found that only 1 in 4 people with pain received

adequate treatment. Pain affects over 75 mil-lion people every year, 50 million of those suffering from chronic pain. The American Poverty Audit of 2002 estimates that pain costs our economy over $78 billion dollars in lost productive work time each year. It also accounts for 80% of lost time within the work environment. We all experience pain in our lives at one time or another. Pain takes many forms; migraine headaches, back pain, pain from surgery or other medical procedures, chronic pain from illness or injury, fibromyalgia, IBS, arthritis, AIDS, phantom pain and the list goes on and on. Of course, whenever we’re in pain we want relief…and we want it fast. So we call the doctor and she/he prescribes medication. We take it and most of the time it helps. Yet at other times it doesn’t help…enough…or for long enough. Many times the doc-tor will not prescribe pain medication for long term use because it can be so highly addictive. Sometimes, we just don’t want to take medication. Today more and more people are asking if there’s an alternative. Is there a safe way to get pain relief without medica-tion? Absolutely! A two hundred year old technique that was approved by both the American Medical Association and the British Associa-tion in 1958 - hypnosis - is gaining in strength as a modality of choice for pain relief in treatment of a variety of medical condi-tions from migraine headaches to chronic back pain to cancer symptoms. Hypnosis, in addition to regular medical treatment, has several advantages in pain management. First, it requires no drugs. In fact, studies show that patients with chronic diseases who practice hypnosis (as taught by a hypnotherapist trained in pain management) required fewer analgesics to maintain pain relief. They also suffered less anxiety about their pain and greater comfort during medical procedures. In a study at Case Western university, hypnotherapy was found useful as a pain management tool following such surgical procedures as hysterectomy, coronary by-pass, hemorrhoid surgery and abdominal surgery. The study proved that test patients also had shorter hospital stays, less nausea and more rapid healing. There have been over twenty published studies that have proven that hypnotherapy is a preferred treatment for reducing migraine headache attacks. With such impressive results, why do we reach for the aspirin bottle or codeine instead of the natural, relaxing, healing capacities within our own minds? The answer is obvious. Most of us don’t know that hypnosis can really help. Many of us are not aware of its proven successfulness. Still others hold outdated, fear-ful notions that hypnosis involves “mind control” or loss of our own conscious will to another person. That’s unfortunate because hypnosis - or hypnotherapy as it is often termed today to indicate

its therapeutic value - is a resource that should be explored by all who suffer pain. It provides an ongoing method of pain manage-ment that, once established, can be monitored and adjusted by the patient him or herself. It returns a sense of control back to the patient and it has no side effects - except an overall increased relaxation, improved state of mind, and an improved quality of life. If you’re interested in exploring the use of hypnosis to control or reduce your pain, call Austin Hypno-Wellness. We will talk with you and discuss if hypnotherapy is right for you!

The Five Phases of Becoming Your FoodRadhia Gleis, PhD, CCn, Columnist

The old saying “you are what you eat” is really true. Well, true of your physical body at least! Stated simply, metabo-

lism is the process by which our body converts food into energy and mass. During this complex biochemical process, calories — from carbohydrates, fats and proteins — are combined with oxygen to release the energy our body needs to function. But just eating proper amounts of carbohydrates, fats and proteins is not the total answer to optimal health. Eating healthy, wholesome, food is the start, but how well do we digest, absorb, utilize and eliminate? There are five phases to eating good food. Let’s start at the beginning! We put clean, healthy, food into our mouth and we begin to chew; the digestion phase begins in the mouth. While we are chewing a digestive enzyme in our saliva starts to break down starches into simpler sugars. Even from the beginning, if we don’t chew our food digestion becomes compromised. The food enters into the stomach where HCL, (hydrochloric acid), pepsin and other gastric juices are secreted to break the food down into smaller particles for absorption. This acidy food soup enters into the small intestine where the pancreas secretes a sodium/potas-sium bicarbonate, in order to neutralize this acidic mixture so that delicate digestive enzymes can break the food particles down even further into their single molecule components. note: digestive enzymes don’t like acid! The older we get the less HCL we generally produce and in certain cases, some individuals have a genetic inability to produce a strong gastric juice at all. Living on a lifelong diet of cooked, and processed foods robs us of our stored bank of diges-tive enzymes and once again the older we get the less digestive enzymes we have to do the job making absorption a real challenge. Once we break our food down, these tiny components slip through the tight intestinal cells into our blood stream where such nutrients are carried to all the cells through out the body. We call this the absorption phase. A life time intake of refined sugars, processed and cooked foods, deficient intake of fiber, alcohol con-sumption, over the counter medication and antibiotic-use destroys the delicate cells of the gut and causes inflammation and a deple-tion of our friendly flora, which can inhibit proper absorption. The power plant of the cell is called the mitochon-dria. This is where the conversion of food into energy and mass begins. This is one of the most complex phases of metabolism that requires nutrient co-factors such as vitamins, minerals and hormones to make this final conversion complete. This is the utili-zation phase. Without proper amounts of these nutrient co-factors and balanced hormones this utilization phase is compromised and the function of metabolism is disrupted. Conventional farming on eroded and depleted soil, heavily laden with chemicals and pesticides not only does not provide our bodies with the balanced cofactors needed to optimize this critical phase, but in many cases acts as a burden to our bodies. Like all manufacturing plants, whether a body is manu-facturing energy from glucose or a factory is making blue widgets

there is always a waste product that must be discarded. In the case of our body, the cell produces metabolic acids and other waste materials that must be carried back through our lymph system and blood stream, filtered through our kidney and liver and car-ried out through our urinary tract, our bowel, our skin, and even our respiratory system. This is the detoxification phase. If anyone of these systems are not functioning well then our health and well being will be compromised and disease and eventual death is inevitable. The human body is one of the most complex organisms on the planet. It takes a matrix of biological systems to make it function efficiently. We are only as strong as our weakest link! Eat-ing pure, wholesome food is just the start but it’s a good start. We should also take vitamin/mineral cofactors regularly, as well as a good digestive enzyme with HCL with our meals. It is important to keep our bowel clean and free of mucus build up by regular cleanses, avoiding mucus forming foods such as wheat, dairy and refined foods and reinoculating the gut with good intestinal flora. Making sure our hormones are balanced properly is the next step and finally making sure we have a good elimination of both meta-bolic and environmental toxins is one of the most important steps we can take to assure optimal health. Find out what the status of your five phases is and how you can remove, restore and replenish this vital system.

Are YOu Ready for a Change?Kate Bares-Johnson, Columnist

Spring is such a sacred time of year. A time of change, new growth, and awak-ening as nature begins to come back

to life, renewed in energy and ready to grow. It’s also an excellent time to initiate change in our lives, as we allow the energy of the season to support us and work its magic. How about you; are you ready for a change? Are you tired of working too hard and playing too little? Are you resigned in your relationship or have you given up ever finding the right “one”? Do you ever have a subtle, nagging feeling that something’s missing or that you’re stuck and spinning your wheels? If you’re nodding your head in a familiar “YES” at this moment, then perhaps it’s time to shake things up in your world a little. no, I don’t mean it’s time to change locations, buy a new car, put in a pool, have a baby, get married, get divorced, go on a diet, or get a new job. There is not a new mate, new career, new body, or new balance in your bank account that will remedy what ails you. What you’re seeking is a new YOu, or should I say, the real you. If you’re tired of being tired of life as you know it, then it’s time to shake things up…from the inside out. It’s time to grow. To begin this amazing journey of transformation, you must first be willing to explore, discover, and expand your mind. To look objectively at the beliefs you have developed about yourself and the world around you and determine if those beliefs are still accurate. Where did they come from and do they still fit in your life? How deeply are they rooted? Are they serving you or causing you pain? Look honestly at the perspective from which you view the world, love, and life. Do you take life with open arms or with armor? Are you an observer of the world or a participant in it? Are you creating the relationship you desire or simply surviving the one you have? If these questions intrigue or even frighten you, then you are, in fact, ALIvE! There is a spark and therefore, a possibility for igniting true change. The Center for Well Being of Austin offers transforma-tional experiences for individuals and couples in which partici-pants have the opportunity to explore deeply in sacred space, identifying the unconscious; releasing that which is no longer needed; honoring; reclaiming; transforming, and allowing one’s Self to unfold in the present…renewed in body, mind, and Soul. This spring we are offering two weekend intensive expe-riences as we embrace this season of change and allow its energy to heal and support us. Our first offering is Soul2Soul: A Retreat for Couples® on March 28-30th and the second is the Release & Renew® Weekend Intensive for individuals on April 25-27th. Through the Soul2Soul: A Retreat for Couples® experience, you and your partner will share a profound and enlightening journey in which you will... • Explore the SOUL of your relationship in a safe, sacred space… • Learn to communicate with honor, validation, and love for

your Self and each other… • Practice turning conflicts into closeness, creating an environ ment of joy, ease and exquisite connection… • Discover and celebrate the highest purpose of your partner ship, revealing the gifts you bring to each other and the world… • And much more! Through the Release and Renew® Weekend Intensive for individuals, you will experience a Divine awakening like none other. Among the many gifts you will receive, you will… • Release and transform the unconscious, Self-sabotaging beliefs that keep you stuck in negative cycles… • Learn to let go of the past and experience life passionately and purposefully in the PRESEnT… • Move from resignation to REALization, releasing self-doubt, worry, anxiety and fear… • Embrace life experiences with willingness and compassion… • Reclaim your True Self, renewing integrity and balance on every level…body, mind, Soul. Animal Talk: Percy’s Storyval Heart, M.B.A., Pa.C.B.P., Columnist

Imagine for a moment that you are Percy, a beautiful, creamy long hair 10 pound 8 year old cat. Rescued from a construction site years

ago, you have healed now, and you are enjoying your life and good health. You often happily accom-

pany your caretakers, Rita and Bart, as they travel and around the world, by car and airplane, to visit your extended family and friends. You are a very special, unique being with a great deal of wisdom and compassion. You love your human friends very much and they wonder what they did before you came into their lives. Rita occasionally chats with you through the services of Val, an animal communicator and behaviorist, and you always look forward to these visits. When Rita tells you that Val is calling to chat, you always get excited and run to the phone, and during the conversa-tion, you are very animated and expressive… When you first met Val, you were newly rescued and having trouble becoming accustomed to your new home and people. She as-sisted so that everyone felt more comfortable with each other, and you learned how to understand the needs of your new people and how you could best fit in. She helped them understand where you came from, how you felt, and that you were grieving the loss of your former people. Chatting with Val helped ease the transition for everyone so much. And, Val also helped your vet know what you really needed and what was helping you – and what was not helping. That helped you recover your health and well-being very quickly. When Rita discovered that you were very afraid of thun-derstorms, Val spoke with you about this. She helped you understand that the Thunderstorm could not find you if you went into their master bedroom closet and hung out there with your toys, bedding, and snacks. Sure enough, when the next Thunderstorm came, you tested out Val’s suggestion and it worked. You’ve never been afraid of Thunderstorms again because you know what to do now. This past year you have felt something odd in your head. A sort of pressure, a deep ache, and sometimes it feels like a sharp, stabbing pain. Light now often hurts your eyes and sometimes it hurts to swallow. Food doesn’t smell or taste the same as it used to either. When you tell Val and Rita how you feel, Rita takes you to the vet for a checkup, but the vet never finds anything wrong. You aren’t sure what to do about this as the pressure keeps getting worse… Animals are supposed to live long lives and in times past, they normally did. Today, our animals are living shorter lives than ever before and alarming numbers of them are suffering from cancer, autoimmune problems, and other degenerative diseases. It is hard enough to deal with cancer in our own bodies or with our loved human family and friends, but it can be especially difficult to watch our loved animal companions suffer from it too. I have worked with many cancer patients now, both hu-man and animals, and have a lot to offer to anyone struggling to survive this dreaded illness. Shortly before Christmas, Rita discovered that her beloved cat, Percy, had cancer. For about a year now he had been telling us of a pain and pressure in his head but the vets hadn’t been able to find anything. This time, they could finally see the

problem, a tumor growing in his sinus cavities. They decided to try to remove it but when they went into the surgery, they discov-ered that it had invaded much of his head and was too large to risk trying to remove it. The only real choices they had were 1) do nothing and treasure the last few weeks he had to live, or 2) go to a special clinic in Fort Collins, Colorado and undertake a specialized treat-ment protocol that included an intensive daily radiation for sev-eral weeks. This option would include driving to another city over 3 hours away, staying in a hotel for a month, and would definitely get worse before it got better. What Rita had to know before making any decision was if Percy wanted to go through with the treatment, if he wanted to survive and fight. Or, if he simply was too tired and wanted to let go and transition. Rita was willing to honor his decision whatever it was, even though the thought of losing him was breaking her heart. After carefully explaining the protocol process and all the options, Percy told us he did want to fight and that he was not ready to die. We discussed the travel, the daily treatments, and prepared him as well as possible by telling him what to expect. We even gave him visualization tips that would help him under-stand and cooperate with the process. We scheduled weekly visits with him so we could moni-tor how he was doing, to help us adjust the pain medication appropriately based on his actual pain levels, and to give him a voice to express himself. Some days were better than others, and some days he was very tired. But, every week he reaffirmed that he wanted to keep fighting. Everyone who is ill and going through this kind of trauma needs a way to tell their loved ones what is happening with them and how they are feeling. Just expressing ourselves and being heard often goes a very long way in managing pain. This is especially true of our animal friends. When it was time to insert his feeding tube (his throat became too raw and swollen for him to eat normally), we dis-cussed it before they did it so he wouldn’t be alarmed or surprised. And the insertion went very well with him adjusting to it almost immediately. One day Rita called in a panic saying that something was wrong with the feeding tube. That Percy wouldn’t let her feed him and seemed uncomfortable. When I tuned in, he told me it felt like something was blocking it and I could see where there was a lump of what looked like flesh in the way. As I scanned the area, I could tell that the tube was not dislodged or leaking, and that there wasn’t any indication of infection or inflammation. He also told us that it didn’t hurt which was a great relief to both of us. When Rita took him to the vet to be checked, they found a large lump of his food had blocked the tube itself. When it dissolved, things were flowing smoothly again. I was also able to offer coaching and healing work for both Rita and Percy that helped them be as resilient and strong as possible. And the energetic healing work helped Percy heal and

As winter comes to a close and we step into spring, we have the opportunity to activate the shifts reflected upon

over the past several months. We are fortunate to have at our disposal a mixture of modern

science and ancient healing arts to assist in implementing those shifts. Science and history have given us a vast view on how to work with stones. Science provides the chemical breakdown of stones, showing us we have trace amounts of every stone known within our human body. History gives us an array of healing modalities including herbs, sound vibrations and the use of stone energies. During the long winter nights thoughts turn inward, a time of reflection. Taking the time to reflect opens the paths of healing and growth. As spring approaches, the opportunity to put those thoughts into action commences. A stone to assist during this time of change is Topaz. Topaz is an aluminum fluorosilicate crystal with a hardness of 8 on the Moh’s Scale of Hardness and forms in a wide array of colors, adding to the benefits of carrying, wearing, or having this gem in your living space. This ancient stone has been revered and used as a healing tool all over the world. To the Egyptians it represented the “the god of the sun” and the Greeks believed it had the power to ward off infections, build your mind, boost your spirits plus break the connection of any bad spirits you may have hanging around. We can benefit from the Topaz stone vibration especially in the spring because it assists in focusing the energy where it is needed most. Lurking within the shadows of our minds are reflec-tions of mistakes and misgivings. The days blossoming in length are symbolic of opening up to the opportunities of shifting from doubt to times of action. Assisting us in self-forgiveness, Topaz guides our commitment to change with compassion to self and others. Topaz energy gives us the ability to focus on changing the activities in our lives which no longer serve the Higher Self. Being a stone that helps us attune to faith and hope, it encour-ages us to look at ourselves in a new light, to take action and to heal our bodies on multiple levels. Recognizing where healing is needed, focusing on those areas, and putting into action the desire to heal, opens us to the energies of Topaz. When committing to actions focusing on our physi-cal health, call upon the energies of Topaz to assist in shifting digestive disorders, helping with insomnia, asthma, bleeding and burns. Its vibrations are said to help suppress fear and balance emotions. If you want to be “invisible” wear a topaz. Topaz grows in colors ranging from colorless (which sharpens thought and concentration), to gold, yellow, pink, brown and blue (good for communication, eases pressure and very calm-ing). Having such an array of color vibrations allows us to use it for problems with grounding, staying focused, eliminating exhaus-tion and manifesting changes necessary for a happy life.

Topaz helps with experiencing spring for what it is, a time of renewal and change. Its energies effortlessly offer the cour-age to create those changes while healing on multiple levels. We all have options in our lives. We can continue down the path of least resistance and life will progress, with us merely experiencing and reacting to it. But with the help of Topaz, you can take charge of your life and initiate the changes that will reap benefits for your future. By taking charge you take responsibility and Topaz will help you follow through with those decisions. Most of us will face some kind of love challenge in our lifetime. Knowing and understanding the vibrations of these stones can assist us in processing these lessons and offer a benefit we’re all afforded effortlessly, just with the knowledge of their availability. Carrying a pocket stone or wearing natural stone jew-elry can surround you with these loving vibrations to interact with and support you for as long as you desire.

A Refresher Course on Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Helen Prater

I’ve been writing about uses and benefits of HBOT for nearly 3 years now and I continue to be amazed at the results (“little miracles” I

call them) I see all the time! I thought it was about time to do a refresher on the history of HBOT in general for those who have recently joined the Enjoy Whole Health reader family. Why does it seem the Western world is always so far be-hind when it comes to alternative treatments that really do won-ders? Although the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is commonplace in Europe and Asia, it is still in it’s’ infancy in the Western world. It is, however, steadily gaining popularity and credibility in the u.S. Every day we are finding more conditions that this simple, non-surgical, cost-effective procedure benefits. I have personally seen wondrous results from the use of this treat-ment. We all know how important oxygen is in the healing process. normally, oxygen is almost exclusively carried by red blood cells. During HBO therapy, all body fluids, including the lymph and cerebrospinal fluids are infused with the healing benefits of this molecular oxygen. Pressurization forces it to reach bone and tissue that is inaccessible to the blood cells even when compromised by injury or disease. The result is the oxygen speeds and enhances the body’s natural ability to heal. Originally developed during the 1930’s, HBOT has long been recognized as the definitive treatment for decompres-sion sickness, air embolism, and carbon monoxide poisoning. In recent years, HBOT has emerged as a helpful, and many times curative, therapy for additional conditions such as: stroke, traumatic brain injury, crush injuries, peripheral neuropathy, migraine and cluster headache, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, chronic fatigue, Bell’s palsy, Lupus, Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, decubitus ulcers, autism, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, osteoporosis, radiation damaged tissue and bone, non-healing fractures, tendon and ligament injures, sport injuries, Brown Recluse spider bites, delayed wound healing, thermal burns, and improved healing after cosmetic surgery to list a few. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a medical treatment that is American Medical Association recognized and FDA approved. Some treatments are also a Medicare approved modality. Al-though HBOT is not yet approved for all types of indications, it is continually being proven that many of these conditions respond extremely favorably to HBOT treatment. These indications are referred to as “off-label” treatments and can not be treated at hos-pitals since they are bound by medical rules. However, although they may not be covered by insurance, they can be administered at freestanding clinics. (A free-standing clinic is not associated with a hospital or medical facility.) But since a medical doctor must ap-prove patients for treatment, these clinics usually have a Medical Director on staff to interview and screen patients to assure their safety and determine the benefit that may be derived from HBOT. Freestanding clinics are also bound by safety rules, and treat-

ments are usually considerably cheaper than those at a hospital. If freestanding facilities continue to prove the benefits of HBOT in areas not yet covered by insurance, maybe it will help speed up the process of changing those rules/laws. During treatment the patient breathes 100% pure oxygen, under increased atmospheric pressure inside a pressur-ized chamber. Treatments usually last from 60-90 minutes and are administered by a qualified Hyperbaric technician. This can be a relaxing experience since the patient can watch Tv, videos, or just sleep. The only sensation you may experience can be compared to that of an airplane cabin pressurizing. That is exactly what’s happening inside the chamber. Although there are no claims that HBOT alone will cure diseases, etc., it is highly recommended that HBOT be used as an adjunctive therapy to those treatments already being given to the patient. Some people take HBOT treatments prior to and after surgery to speed up healing, reduce swelling and chances of infec-tion. Some elderly people take them just to feel better, diminish their aches and pains, have clearer thinking and better memory, and to improve their eyesight. But many with debilitating diseases like MS, autism, psoriasis, or suffering strokes enjoy astounding results after a series of HBOT treatments. Some take them just to reduce their stress or rid themselves of Migraines. Many patients report improvements in pre-existing conditions other than the ones they intended to treat with HBOT. They also report a more relaxed feeling, having higher levels of energy, sleeping better at night, having clearer thinking, and an improved general feeling of well being. Don’t wonder about it, call or go in to check out the cleanliness, privacy, efficient and friendly staff at a local Hyper-baric Chamber Treatment clinic, and see for yourself what it can do for you.

After retiring from 35 years in the computer field, Helen developed an interest in alternative health medicine. She became interested and began researching HBOT in an effort to find help and hope for her husband with congestive heart failure and diabetes, her nephew with ALS, and her niece with Lupus. She scoured the Internet, read articles, visited HBOT clinics, and even took dives herself. Her mis-sion was to find out everything that she could about this simple, but powerful, treatment and how it can help. Call 210-654-6464.

What we think or what we know or what we believe is, in the end,

of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do.”

Feng Shui Principles of DesignJudy Morris, Master of Fung Shui, FSRC, Columnist

where the real orientation (of what is the front and what is the back) is also very confusing. Keep in mind that there are some buildings which get classified as being good for money, but not good for health and relationships. The ideal is to create a building that is good for both, but given a choice, the priority should be more in favor of health and relationships over money. An added bonus to this choice is that long term prosperity will be prevalent in the health and relationships homes. Sometimes the design of a grand, swirling staircase can make a huge statement for the room or entrance. But energeti-cally, a staircase is a conduit for energy. It will swirl and activate whatever it is around. If the stairs are located in a positive section of a building, they can make it even more positive. If they happen to be in a bad location, then the movement they stir up will only further irritate the area. This can only be understood by Feng Shui practitioners who can calculate the “unseen” influences. There are times when a home or commercial property just looks and feels great, and all the visual features are in sync with good Feng Shui principles as well. But every structure has been built facing a particular compass degree, and within a certain time frame, and those two coordinates may produce a house-type that can attract tremendous misfortune, even though it “looks” good. This is the level of Feng Shui that architects find most star-tling. How could it be that their gorgeous new home can create lawsuits? Or miscarriage? Or accidents? Or divorce? The good news is that more and more architects are considering working with Feng Shui practitioners, so that the blending of their talents can truly create a superior space-- visually, functionally and energetically.

Judy Morris is the first American designated as a Feng Shui Master by Feng Shui Grand Master Joseph Yu. She has spent years in intensive study and practice developing expertise in such diverse aspects of feng shui theory and practice as He Tu, Luo Shu, Tai Ji, Chinese astrol-ogy, the bagua, I Ching, Nine-Stars, 8 House, 24 Mountains, Purple White, Divine Water and Mountain Dragon methods, Na Jia, Xuan Kong, and the Luo Pan. Since 1992, Judy has consulted with private and corporate clients in the United States, Europe and the Carrib-bean. She currently teaches in Austin, Texas at the Feng Shui Research Center, 512-252-9534, [email protected], www.FSRC.net

We have often heard it said that good design is also good Feng Shui. Al-though I agree with this in principle,

Feng Shui distinctions of how qi moves in and around a building, and what kind of effect that has on people, will sometimes be in conflict with interesting architecture or land-scape. Recently I have been working with an amazing real estate agent to locate a home for clients relocating to Austin. I have seen a preponderance of structural design that is inconsistent with the balance that adhering to Time-Space Feng Shui principles provide. Symmetry may not always equal Balance. Many of the homes were designed with doorways or windows placed directly opposite each other. Sometimes there is a whole succession of windows along a wall, and the opposite wall will be a mirror im-age. Many entrances or exterior facades were designed so that the columns, hedges, and pathways create long straight lines toward a main door. In looking at these designs, the symmetry is obvious. From a Feng Shui standpoint, this is not necessarily harmonious or balanced. Think about nature, and winding meandering paths through gardens, and groupings in odd numbers. This is very different than the perfect pairing of windows, doors, or other ar-chitectural features. Two windows exactly opposite each other may feel like balance through symmetry from a designer’s training. But this arrangement allows for qi to either move too quickly through a room and/or the room leaks its vitality prematurely. A room may feel dramatic and larger when the ceilings are high and people may initially feel good in this kind of room. The function of the room will determine the appropriateness of high ceilings in Feng Shui theory. It may be hard to concentrate in a room with high ceilings, and it may be difficult to get good sleep as well. Sometimes the good energies which need to be cozy and contained in a small room, will get dissipated in a room with high ceilings. Bedrooms with sloped, slanted, or stepped ceilings lend interest when lying down but they can cause undue pressure on the head which may result in a number of health issues. The look of exposed beams can also bring personality to a room from a design point. But open beams in a bedroom or any other area where people sit for extended periods of time are known to cause health and relationship problems in Feng Shui theory (in all schools of Feng Shui.) A major selling feature in many homes is to create a spectacular view from the entrance, all the way through to the back (showing a garden, or views of a valley or water.) This is not the home you will sell to an adherent of Feng Shui. Once again, the premise is that incoming energy will make a bee-line for the back, escaping too quickly. The mundane result of a house losing its energy is that the occupants will have a hard time saving their money. When a building or a single room has an odd shape, (not a square or rectangle) this can make the qi bounce around the room (think geometry), causing lack of focus, ill health, or argu-ments. I have often been in very odd-shaped buildings or houses,

Energy Treatments and SuccessBarry A. Morguelan, M.D., FACG

As a western doctor in private practice in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology work-

ing in LA for many years, I witnessed that although the many modalities used to treat people in western medicine were very successful, many physicians including myself wished we could do so much more for our patients. So over 15 years ago, I decided to see what other treatments were available which were not a part of western medicine. During travels over the uS and around the world, I came across some wonderful ancient healing practices in China that were kept in existence for thousands of years and almost lost during the time of Mao. I came in contact with and was actually able to learn these techniques and bring them back to the uS. These ancient healing practices have to do with energy healing. What’s great about them is that they augment western medicine in many ways and do not take away from traditional western care. Plus there are other things people can focus on such as keeping themselves the best they can be, and the healthiest person they can be. Energy healing is all about people having a successful life. There are many different types of energy healing, acupuncture, acupressure and herbal treatments. This type of energy healing is multifaceted and works without needles or any of the things people may be familiar with. There are no needles and no severe experiences to go through. Receiv-ing the energy does not take much work on the patient’s part, the energy connection is given to the person by the energy physician. Maintaining the connection then requires regular attention, including a series of simple daily practices. There is an energy force in the universe, which is available to use with people to have them start to heal in many different ways. It works in the emotional, psychological, and physical realms. The energy I was able to bring back is about hav-ing each person succeed in all the areas he or she wants to succeed in life, in both business and personal realms: family, daily decision making, differentiating opportunities, ten-nis, golf, healing physical things. The ways I have seen this be useful don’t seem to stop. There seems to be this whole opportunity in front of us that we can really take advantage of in life if we show up at our very best, and the energy can support all of us in this.

What is this Energy?

This energy is the life force that is said to animate all living beings, connecting everyone and everything.

Once sensed, many people want to tap into it or harness it because it seems so right to have it as a companion through all the challenges of life. It can be thought of as a pulsing or resonance that we as individuals can access, connect to and utilize in every important area of our lives. It is from the energy that we find the grace and power to stay focused on our goals and accomplish them with ease. This energy technique is part of a 5,000 year-old lineage in China and is known as the ‘root of the tree’ from which other systems arise. It supports all the many systems we know and love. The energy that sustains one’s body and mind is also the energy that can give people the edge in an act of physical, mental or emotional performance. It does not interfere with religious or spiritual practices. It does not replace other practices; it fuels what someone is already doing and has the potential to open up unforeseen pathways for people to accomplish their goals and dreams. The energy allows one a new ease and grace to re-main focused on moving towards the goals he or she wants to accomplish in life. Many people have reported that they have also developed a profound sense of appreciation for their accomplishments – no matter how small. Imagine what your life would look like if you remembered every victory, and if life could become like a flowing stream of ac-complishments.

For more than 25 years I’ve been on jour-ney for higher quality foods to include into my diet for the improvement of my

physical health. This path began because of a diagnosis of 4th stage cancer I received in 1983. Today I’m cancer free, and I am truly ecstatic that my journey has also helped thou-sands throughout the years to live healthier and happier lives too. And I love the exploration of forever improving and educating both clients and myself. I also like it to be easy and cost effective, which is not always possible, but chia seeds are easy to consume, prepare and cost effective too. Chia seeds are packed with nutrition and considered an “almost perfect food.” Here are just a few of the nutritional facts:

• High in Zinc, Copper, Boron, Calcium, Protein • Assists the body to assimilate and use Calcium • Supports brain function • Essential fatty acids, Omega 3 and 6 • Easily digestible protein, absorbs excess acid balancing ph • Increases energy, strength and endurance • Regulates insulin by leveling blood sugar • Induces weight loss, trimming the inches • Regenerates healthy tissue • Aids intestinal regularity • High in fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals

Chia is the Mayan word for Strength. Ancient civiliza-tions such as the Aztec, Mayan, Incas, and Apache consumed chia seeds as a main staple. It was known as a runner’s food, as well as carried by warriors during their conquests. This tiny seed absorbs 12 times its weight in water, which keeps the body hydrated. Researchers believe the gel-forming phenomenon of the seeds takes place in the stomach, creating a physical barrier between carbohydrates and the digestive enzymes that break them down, thus slowing the conversion of carbohydrates into sugar. This gives obvious benefits for diabetics, and because the slowing of sugar conversion this aids endurance. In the book, The Magic of Chia by James Scheer, Mr. Scheer refers to many studies for the curious to learn more. One test that he refers to was performed by Paul Braggs (Braggs Amino Acids) a famous fitness guru who, by the way, died in a body surf-ing accident in 1976 at the age of 95. Mr. Braggs’ statement, when asked, that his power food for energy, vitality and endurance was the humble, tiny chia seed. This conversation sparked a challenge with a group of young athletes from the club. So Paul Bragg structured the experiment-competition as a grueling test of endurance, a thirty-six-hour hike to the top of Mount Wilson. The volunteers were divided into two groups. Members of one group consumed only chia seeds and water during the climb, and the others ate whatever foods they wished, probably Gatorade and protein bars.

Bragg led the chia-eating group, eight men and four women, and chose another man to lead the eat-as-you-wish group. “’For the first few hours, there seemed to be no difference in our ability to climb. However, as the terrain grew rougher and the slopes steeper, things changed. Our chia-eating group started to pull ahead of the others.’” Bragg’s group of chia eaters reached the peak four hours andtwenty-seven minutes ahead of the other group of twelve. Only three men and two women of the other group actually fin-ished. Daily I consume chia seeds either from gelled chia seeds are from the pudding I make that tastes like tapioca pudding. My 9 and 12-year-old nieces take it to school as part of their lunch. It can replace a meal, eaten as a snack and a dessert. And it’s wheat free, gluten free, and dairy free too. It can be added to baby food and is gentle on the stomach. If you’re on chemo, this will be easy to consume while settling the intestines and regulating the colon too. It’s a part of my family’s daily staple. For the pudding recipe, go to my website: www.healthy-help4u.com, it’s listed in the December newsletter. now the part I must add, just consider it amusement: In no way has the statements written been approved by the FDA, AMA and/or other such agencies. And this is by no means for the purpose of diagnosing, treating, alleviating, mitigating, curing, preventing, or caring for “disease” in any way or manner whatso-ever. Okay, now that’s done, Here’s to a long, healthy and beautiful life. Eat well, love long and may God bless you with all that is Good, Beth

Q: It has been suggested to me to take Vitamin B6. I have looked at several products including pyridoxal-5-phosphate. How do I know which form of B6 is the best for me?

A: Pyridoxal-5-phosphate or P5P is my favorite form of B6 to rec-ommend to my clients. In September of 2001, I attended a hair analysis seminar given by Bob Smith of Great Smokies Labs. Bob gave a short lecture on B6 deficiency that sparked my interest in re-visiting the biochemistry of B6. Through that study and Bob’s lecture, the following information was developed to help you in determining your need for P5P. Firstly, let’s look at why it is important in the body. vi-tamin B6 is necessary for a properly functioning nervous system, gastrointestinal epithelium, mucous membranes, skin and over 60 enzymes. It is an essential cofactor for the amino acid synthesis of serotonin (which can cause depression when levels are low). If serotonin levels drop, the body is then unable to make melatonin (the biochemical sleep trigger). Several drugs and substances can cause the depletion of B6. Estrogens, alcohol, tobacco smoke, PCBs, yellow dye # 5 or tartrazine are a few on the list. P5P is the phosphorylated form of pyridoxine or vitamin B6. This form of the vitamin does not require activation by the liver. It can be used by the cell immediately upon ingestion. P5P is considered nontoxic. Dietary sources of the vitamin include whole grain cereals, wheat germ, yeast, meat, peanuts, bananas, legumes, potatoes and egg yolk. B6 is also made in the intestines by friendly bacteria. Bioavailability is reduced by heat processing of foods. It is synthesized by many plants and bacteria but nOT by higher animals. Higher amounts are needed by the body dur-ing periods of stress. P5P deficiency is actually very common. The majority of people who are deficient have an inability to metabolize B6 and/or have an insufficient amount in their diet. The following is a list of indicators of P5P deficiency. The greater the number of matching indicators you have, the more probable your need for P5P.Indicators: 1) Morton Toe: second toe is equal or longer than the big toe; 2) Groove on approximately a forty five degree angle from the corner of the eye; and 3) Injured joints taking a long time to heal (usually involves othe nutrients as well) P5P deficiency also tracks with the following diagnoses –(since B6 is involved with so many aspects of the body it can be involved directly or indirectly with many diagnoses): Fibromyalgia; Low Hydrochloric acid in the stomach (involves zinc also, can exhibit as belching, bloating, smell stool, gas); Fluid retention; Alcoholism (involves chromium also); Schizo-phrenia; Chronic fatigue syndrome; and Anorexia (involves zinc also). P5P deficiency can also contribute to a form of night blindness where you are very uncomfortable driving at night and oncoming lights hurt your eyes. The deficiency is present in cases of low libido, PMS, morning sickness during pregnancy as well as causing fertility problems. P5P deficiency can cause you not to

be able to remember your dreams. Having this deficiency can also make you more prone to allergies. This deficiency can cause a very low tolerance to stress. It may also cause anti-social behavior. The following is a protocol proposed by Bob Smith at the lecture. I have been using this with clients with great success since September 2001. Take 50mg of P5P in the morning for 3 days. If dream recall does not begin, increase by 50mg for 3 more days. Con-tinue increasing every 3 days until dream recall occurs; this is the optimal dose. If 400mg is not sufficient, testing is suggested including possibly a urine Amino Acid Test- watching Taurine metabolism especially. [P5P deficiency tracks with Taurine defi-ciency. Those exposed to chlorine likely have Taurine deficiency]Do not take P5P at the same time as zinc or other minerals, since these bind the P5P. The only exception to this rule is magne-sium, which works synergistically with the P5P by augmenting its absorption. The optimal dose should be maintained for 6-12 months; during this period the body usually learns to metabolize B6 properly. Monitoring (by dream recall) this dose is suggested as it may be appropriate to decrease it over the 6-12 months. After this training period, most people can utilize B6 in food as well as the pyridoxine hydrochloride found in multi-vitamins. If however, one has the Morton Toe, one needs to continue P5P supplementation for life. If the individual is under stress, the need for P5P increases. P5P also has the ability to alter homocysteine. Elevated homocysteine levels are a potential risk factor in cardiovascular disease. Scientists have established a correlation between coronary heart disease and low P5P levels. This was in patients who were not taking B vitamins. In this study, patients that had adequate blood levels of P5P, B12 and folate had significantly lower levels of homocysteine. Another study showed that P5P may also protect against arrhythmia or irregular heart beats. P5P may also protect patients with uncontrolled blood pressure against coronary artery disease and cerebral vascular disease. In this study, it was found that some of the patients developed the P5P deficiency after long-term administration of the high blood pressure medicines (anithy-pertensives). P5P also plays a role in inhibiting the formation of tumors and is therefore useful in some cancers. Consider taking at least 50mg daily and watch for re-sults. Clients report having their dream recall improve right away. Be sure and check with your physician for any possible contraindi-cation in trying the vitamin. Remember to take it in the morning because it can have excitatory effects and keep you from sleeping.

The Movie MysticStephen Simon, Guest Columnist

Before we look at my favorite films from 2007, I have a message for both the main-

stream film industry and its film critics: You have both lost all connection with film audiences. Hollywood has seemingly decided that “quality” now equates with dark, violent, and depressing; consequently, 2007 was one of the bleakest years ever for film distribution. To make matters worse, and to illustrate anew the fable of the emperor’s new clothes, film critics have fallen into lockstep with film dis-tributors. As I write this column on January 1, 2008, the film that has garnered almost every film critic group’s nod as the best film of 2007 is nO COunTRY FOR OLD MEn, which centers around one of the nastiest, most vicious, and soulless serial killers ever depicted on screen. In the first ten minutes of the film, a man is graphically strangled while the killer looks positively orgasmic and then another innocent man is cold-bloodedly shot between the eyes. And then it gets worse…much worse. nevertheless, the film critic for the Portland Oregonian said this about the film: “exact, spare, bloody, dark, and unrelenting, it’s superb.” Excuse me? While I respect every one’s right to say whatever they be-lieve, I also reserve the right to ask, “What are you folks smok-ing”? “Best film” means the one film every year that is repre-sented to the rest of the world as the premier achievement in the American film industry. Focusing on the craft itself is fine for cate-gories like sound editing, costume design, or cinematography, but, when you’re talking about the “best film”, content itself should be of paramount importance. For studios and critics, “superb” and “bloody, dark, and unrelenting” may belong in the same sentence but, fortunately, we in the audience don’t agree. The fall season of 2007 produced the weakest box office results for that period of time in the last ten years. The film indus-try is quite literally awash in red ink. According to a november 26, 2007 article in video Business Weekly, the film industry lost a staggering six billion dollars in 2006. In short, the business model of the film industry is broken. Creatively, it’s even worse. The chasm between the insular, dark, violent, and cynical tastes of most studios and film critics and the desire of audiences to have other choices is now deeper than the Grand Canyon. I also think it would be wonderful, and more honest, if the Academy (of which I am a member) changed the characteriza-tion of awards from “best” to “favorite”. Factors such as both the film’s and the individual’s overall popularity always factor into Academy voting anyway, whether members want to admit it or not. using “best” in regards to the art form of film is not only unfair to all concerned but also simply impossible to gauge. I have no idea what “best” means in films. My own list of favorite films of 2007 consists of films that personally moved me, inspired me, and made me feel better about being human. When I post these choices on the message boards for subscribers to the Spiritual

My Favorite Films of 2007

Cinema Circle, I’m sure our community will share some passion-ate opinions and disagreements of their own. That’s the fun of it. Let the discussions begin.

1) REIGN OVER ME. With bravura performances from both Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle, the film is a beautiful paean to the powers of love, friendship, and, most importantly, healing. Sandler, in particular, is brilliant beyond words. unfor-tunately, like Jim Carrey in ETERnAL SunSHInE OF THE SPOTLESS MInD in 2004 and Will Ferrell in STRAnGER THAn FICTIOn in 2006, Sandler is seen as, and I’m afraid somewhat resented for, being a successful broad comedian, and his incredible performance has been unjustly ignored.

2) ENCHANTED. What a delightful, whimsical, and hilarious film! Putting some of Disney’s classic fairy tale characters into a modern day context works so well that my whole family just sat there smiling, laughing, and applauding throughout the film. Amy Adams’ fairy tale princess, separated from her prince and sent to modern day new York by an evil queen, is so pitch perfect that we were repeating her lines for days.

3) THE GREAT DEBATERS. A powerful and mov-ing tribute to the courage of the African-American Wiley College debating team and its coach in 1930s Texas. Denzel Washington directs and stars in a film that reminds us of what we can accom-plish when we decide that it is we, not the world around us, who define ourselves.

4) JUNO. A funny, poignant, searingly honest, and loving story of a teenager’s unwelcome pregnancy and her search for both herself and the most appropriate adoptive parents. Ellen Page is simply brilliant as the title character and the film has much to say about love, life, and responsibility. It also has one of the sweetest and most touching final scenes in recent memory.

5) WAITRESS. An offbeat, often hilarious, and sometimes harrowing story about a small town waitress and her unique talent for baking every kind of pie imaginable. Keri Russell achieves superstar actress status with her complex and nuanced portrait of a woman in an emotionally abusive marriage that she yearns to escape. The film is also a loving tribute to Adrienne Shelly, its writer/director/costar who was tragically killed after the completion of the film. Stephen Simon co-founded www.Spiritualcinemacircle.com and produced such films as SOMEWHERE IN TIME and WHAT DREAMS MAY COME. He also directed and produced both CON-VERSATIONS WITH GOD and INDIGO and is the author of THE FORCE IS WITH YOU: MYSTICAL MOVIES MESSAGES THAT INSPIRE OUR LIVES.

Organic produce has become ex-tremely popular as people look for fresh, chemical-free vegetables and

fruits to eat. While it’s more widely available, probably the best way to insure that you and your family are eating organic food is to grow it yourself. Growing your own organic garden isn’t rocket science. Follow these 10 basic steps to getting started this spring with a small, simple, yet productive organic garden. It will not only produce healthful vegetables to eat, it also will give you hours of relaxation as you work the soil and plants. 1) Find the Right Spot. Like real estate, a successful organic garden is all about the right location. Find a spot in your yard with full sun (at least 6 hours), well-drained soil, and one that’s within easy reach of the house. 2) Beef Up the Soil. Add organic matter such as grass clippings, leaves, compost, manure, hay and straw each fall. In spring, apply a 1/2- to 1-inch-thick layer of finished compost on beds before planting. 3) Raise it Up. Create raised beds (8 to 10 inches high, 3 feet wide) by mounding the soil and flattening the top. Soil in raised beds warms up and dries out faster in spring and is easer to work. You can reform the beds each spring or make the beds permanent by framing them with rot-resistant wood, plastic or stone. 4) Grow What You Like. Although it may seem obvious, grow crops you and your family love to eat. While bush beans, lettuces and tomatoes are some of the easiest vegetables to grow, if your family doesn’t enjoy them, why grow them? 5) Select the Right Varieties. Grow varieties of veg-

etables and fruits adapted to your area. Check with local garden centers and fellow gardeners to find the best varieties to grow. 6) Start With Transplants. For the beginning gardener, purchase as many vegetables as possible as transplants from the garden center. Seeds are necessary for root crops, such as carrots and radishes, but transplants of most other vegetables are more likely to be a success. 7) Design Properly. Design your garden with a mix of flowers, vegetables, fruits and herbs. A mixed planting is less likely to get completely destroyed by insect, animal or disease attacks. 8) Plant Correctly. Follow package directions and plant at the proper spacing and depth. Thin seeded crops to the proper distance. Crowded plants become easily stressed and don’t produce well. 9) Mulch. Maintain constant soil moisture and keep weeds at bay by mulching. Mulch cool-season crops such as strawberries, broccoli and lettuce with a 2- to 3-inch-thick layer of hay, straw or grass clippings. Mulch warm-season crops such as tomatoes, melons and cucumbers with plastic mulch to heat the soil. 10) Check for Insects. Inspect plants every few days for any insect activity. Handpick destructive insects and drop them in a can of soapy water.

recover as quickly as possible. I’m very happy to report that Rita has now taken Percy home and he is in recovery. His vets told Rita they had never seen an animal go through the process with as much patience, coopera-tion and willingness as Percy, and that they were truly amazed at how well he was doing. They wished that all their patients were so easy to work with! Rita told her vets about our sessions and how much of a difference they had made, both for Percy and herself. They said they wished all their patients had this kind of support as it truly made such an obvious difference in his treatment. They had originally given him a poor prognosis but his calm and determined spirit made them very hopeful that he would beat this cancer and be well again. If you are going through an illness, please ask for the support you need. If your animals are going through this, please give them the gift of an animal communicator so they can have a voice in what happens to them. To help you get started, I have a Free Report on The 10 Things You Must Know Before Hiring An Animal Commu-

nicator. Just go to my website and ask for it, ok? My website is: http://www.valheart.com. If you are ready for personal coaching and to experience the difference animal communication can make with your animal friends, or to get the help you need to work through training and behavior problems, performance issues, and health challenges, then schedule a private session so we can resolve the problems now. It doesn’t help you or your animal to keep putting up with problems because neither of you are happy and are just causing yourselves more stress. I work with animals but I help you regain your sanity, balance and well-being!

the Van Gogh Bluesby Eric Maisel, Ph.D.nEW WORLD LIBRARY, 2008, $14.95

Ceative people will experience depression — that’s a given. It’s a given because they are regularly confronted by doubts about the meaningfulness of their efforts. Theirs is a kind of depres-sion that does not respond to pharmaceutical treatment. What’s required is healing in the realm of meaning. In this groundbreaking book, Eric Maisel teaches creative people how to handle these recurrent crises of meaning and how to successfully manage the anxieties of the creative process. using examples both from the lives of famous creators such as van Gogh and from his own creativity coaching practice, Maisel explains that despite their inevitable difficulties, creative people possess the ability to forge relationships, repair themselves, and find meaning in their work and their lives. Maisel presents a step-by-step plan to help creative people handle their special brand of depression and rediscover the reasons they are driven to create in the first place.

Find the natural/organic products that you need, plus news and much, much more! In our personal searches for products and information to aid in a healthier lifestyle for ourselves and our planet, we had difficulty finding the things we were looking for. Our assumption was that if we were having problems, so were other consumers. So, we pooled our information from our own searches and this website was born.
