MESSAGE FROM THE HON WARREN TRUSS MP

RECentral to the Coalition Government’s commitment to build a stronger, more productive and diverse economy is having the right infrastructure in place to get Australia moving again. The Coalition Government is determined to build the infrastructure of the 21st century.

We understand the importance of more modern infrastructure to boost productivity and address the key bottlenecks on our gridlocked roads and highways. Unless our manufacturers, farmers and exporters can get their products to market efficiently, safely and securely, the whole economy suffers. This reality underscores why building infrastructure is a central component of the Coalition Government’s Real Solutions Plan.

The Coalition Government has already committed to a number of substantial infrastructure projects across the country, including WestConnex in Sydney and the East West Link in Melbourne, Gateway North upgrade in Brisbane, South Road in Adelaide, Swan valley Bypass in Perth and many others. We are forging ahead with a major upgrade of the Bruce Highway in Queensland, the Midland Highway in Tasmania and the completion of the four-laning of the Pacific Highway in NSW.

These and other projects will provide access to new and emerging industries, will support the transportation of cost-sensitive goods to markets and will link Australians to new jobs, services and opportunities. Importantly, they will also benefit Australia’s freight logistics industry.

The Coalition Government is also strongly committed to strengthening the role of Infrastructure Australia. We will reform Infrastructure Australia to enhance its capability as an independent, transparent and expert advisory body.

Under the Coalition, Infrastructure Australia will focus more heavily on coordinating long-term projects, better planning and giving greater certainty to investors and the construction sector. The Coalition Government will increase Infrastructure Australia’s focus on facilitating increased private sector investment in a diverse array of infrastructure projects across the country.

The Coalition is equally determined to restore a strong working relationship between government and Australian business. This includes bodies like the Australian Logistics Council, which represents the major companies participating in Australia’s freight logistics industry.

Central to the ALC’s advocacy efforts is its two-day ALC Forum, which brings together key decision makers from across industry and business to discuss the steps that need to be taken to improve supply chain efficiency in Australia.

The 2014 Forum, to be held on 19 & 20 March at Royal Randwick in Sydney, focuses on the theme ‘Time to Deliver’. ‘Time to Deliver’ reflects ALC’s belief that it is time Australia delivers improved supply chain efficiency and a stronger national economy.

This echoes the commitment by the Prime Minister to make an annual statement to the Parliament on infrastructure delivery. The Coalition Government firmly believes that it is time to deliver a more productive and efficient freight network for our nation.

I share your determination to improve freight efficiency in Australia, and look forward to working with ALC and the logistics industry to ensure Australia has the infrastructure in place to build a stronger more prosperous economy to connect and drive our 21st century economy.

The Hon Warren Truss MP, Deputy Prime Minister; Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development

It is with great pleasure we invite your participation in Australia’s premier freight logistics and supply chain event for 2014 – the Australian Logistics Council Forum 2014.

The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) is the peak national body representing the major and national companies participating in the Australian freight transport and logistics supply chain sector.

The freight logistics industry is a cornerstone of the Australian economy, generating 14.5 per cent of Australia’s GDP and providing more than 1 million jobs across 165,000 companies.

The ALC Forum 2014 will be held at the Royal Randwick Racecourse from 19 – 20 March 2014.

The theme for the ALC Forum is Time to Deliver. Time to Deliver reflects industry’s view that there needs to be a greater focus by all levels of government in 2014 to deliver on a range of major infrastructure proposals and long term freight plans to improve freight efficiency and build a stronger economy.

There is a new Government in Canberra and ALC will be lobbying hard for delivery on a range of measures needed to improve productivity, efficiency and safety in the freight logistics industry.

The program will feature high level speakers from across the industry and will cover industry relevant topics such as ‘Customers driving change in Logistics and Supply Chains’ to help grow your knowledge and organisation.

The ALC Forum 2014 is organised by and for industry, we hope you participate in this not-to-be missed event.

Lock it in the diary – 19 & 20 March and if past conferences are any indication, get in early to secure registration to this unrivalled Forum.

Yours sincerely

Don Telford Chairman Australian Logistics Council

Michael Kilgariff Managing Director Australian Logistics Council
