TUTORIAL 1 AUTOCAD

Through this tutorial, you will learn:

1. Changing background color (OP���� )

10. Fillet (F���� )

In this tutorial, you will learn how to draw word “AUTOCAD” using all command above.

1. Start AUTOCAD and you see user interface as shown below.

2. Changing the background color

By default, the background color is black. If you want to change the background

color, open OPTION window.

Type OP then press spacebar or OP����

Note: ���� = Press spacebar

Please wait until Option window open then click Display tab and click Color button

Drawing window color will be appear as figure below that select white color from dropdown

menu. Click Apply and Close button then click OK button.

You can hide or display GRIDS in the screen by pressing F7

3. Object snap setting.

Object snap is very important tool in AUTOCAD. Osnap allow us to snap onto a

specific object location when we are picking a point.

Type OS and press spacebar or OS����

Select 7 object snap mode that frequently used in drawing as shown below then Click

OK

4. UNIT setting

It is necessary to set unit that we are using before start drawing.

Type UN and press spacebar or UN����

Change precision to 0.00 and Insertion scale to Millimeters, then click OK

We start the drawing with creating 7 rectangles with 50x75 size because AUTOCAD

has 7 letters with size 50x75

5. Creating a rectangle.

a) Type L ����

b) Then Click anywhere on the screen to start creating a line.

c) Press F8 to switch ORTHO mode to ON then type 50����

d) Move your cursor up then type 75 ����

e) Then move to the left and type 50

f) Type C���� to close, your drawing should be as below

6. Copy and paste it 10 mm away to the right.

a) Create a window from right to the left by covering the rectangle to select it.

b) Type CO����

c) Click lower left corner for Base-point.

d) Move the cursor to the right and type 60���� ����

7. Copy for 5 more rectangles.

a) Select the second rectangle (same way with 5.a step) then type CO����

b) Click the lower right corner of the first rectangle as Base-point

c) Then click on the lower right corner of each rectangle no.1-no.5 as shown below

8. Creating letter A.

a. Create 2 lines on the first rectangle to connect 2 corners at bottom to the

midpoint at the top line.

d) Offset bottom line 27.5 upward

- Type O����

- Type 27.5����

- Click the bottom line to select it.

- Move the cursor upward then Click

e) Offset the horizontal line just created and 2 slanted lines with 10 distance

- Type O����

- Type 10����

- Click the horizontal line

- Move the cursor upward then Click

- Click the right slanted line

- Move the cursor leftward then Click

- Click the left slanted line

- Move the cursor rightward then Click

- Press spacebar

f) Trim to remove all unnecessary lines

- Create a window from right to the left to select it.

- Type TR����

- Click all unnecessary lines

- Press spacebar

- Erase the rest unnecessary lines that could not be deleted by trim

- The drawing should be as below.

9. Creating letter U

a) Offset bottom and side lines with 10 distance

- Type O ����

- Type 10 ����

- Click bottom line, move the cursor upward and Click again

- Click right side line, move the cursor leftward and Click again

- Click left side line, move the cursor rightward and Click again

- Press spacebar

b) Trim all unnecessary lines

- Create a window to select all lines

- Type TR����

- Click all unnecessary lines ����

c) Filling corners with 5 and 10 radii arc.

- Type F����

- Type R����

- Type 5����

- Type M����

- Click line 1 and 2 then Click line 2

and 3

- Press spacebar

- Type F����

- Type R����

- Type 10����

- Type M����

- Click line 4 and5 then Click line 5

and 6����

10. Creating letter T and 0

a) Use Offset to create 5 lines at 2 rectangles

b) Create a vertical line in the first rectangle as shown below. Choose starting point

and next point at mid-point of the lower and upper lines.

c) Offset the line 5 distance to the right and left side.

- Type O����

- Type 5����

- Click the line. Move cursor rightward and Click.

- Click the line. Move cursor leftward and Click.����

d) Trim all unnecessary lines from both rectangles.

11. Create letter C and D. Since C and D letter shape are similar to letter O, we can copy

letter O to create C and D.

a) Delete 2 rectangles for C and D.

- Select both rectangles

- Type E����

b) Copy O to location of letter C and D

- Select letter O

- Type CO����

- Click the top right corner of letter T

- Move the cursor rightward and Click point 1 and 2

- Press spacebar

c) Offset bottom and top lines of C with 20 distance

- Type O����

- Type 20����

- Click the bottom line. Move cursor upward and Click.

- Click the top line. Move cursor downward and Click.����

d) Trim all unnecessary lines

12. Create second A. We have A, so we can copy it for second A letter.

a) Erase rectangle for second A

b) Copy the first A and paste it to the second A location

- Select A

- Type CO����

- Click upper left corner of U as Base-point

- Move the cursor rightward and Click the upper left corner of D����

13. Fill inner corner in O, C and D with 5 radius arc and outer corner with 10 using Fillet.

- Type F����

- Type R����

- Type 5����

- Type M����

- Click lines to fill the corner

shown in the figure on the

right

- Press spacebar

- Type F����

- Type R����

- Type 10����

- Type M����

- Click lines to fill the corner

shown in the figure on the

right
