Introduction to AutoDelivery1

12 Version 1.0.1/June 2008

Overview

This chapter serves as an introduction to AutoDelivery. It includes the following:

• A definition of AutoDelivery

• A description of the system architecture

• A listing and explanation of the files created upon installation.

What Is AutoDelivery?

AutoDelivery is an application that allows you to automate the delivery of your Group 1 product database files. Instead of having to access the Group 1 website every time a new database is available, you can simply configure AutoDelivery to check for updates periodically and download them when appropriate.

You may schedule AutoDelivery to perform these steps routinely through your Microsoft Windows® Task Scheduler. Though AutoDelivery can operate entirely behind the scenes, there are several options that you can configure to meet your site’s needs. For example, you may add or delete databases to be downloaded and provide information for email notifications of the success or failure of your downloads.

NOTE: Any time you upgrade one of AutoDelivery’s associated Group 1 products to a new version, you must also update AutoDelivery’s database configurations to reflect the new version number.

System Architecture 1

AutoDelivery User’s Guide 13

System Architecture

AutoDelivery operates on a client-server architecture. In this setup, the client communicates securely via HTTPS with a server-side web service and download server to retrieve the necessary database file(s). The following diagram illustrates this architecture.

Figure 1: AutoDelivery Architecture

NOTE: All communications over the Internet use HTTPS. Please make sure that port 443 is open.

What Was Installed with AutoDelivery?

For the purpose of this discussion, we assume that you have installed AutoDelivery in C:\Program Files\Group1\AutoDelivery\.

After you have completed your installation using the directions that accompanied the software, take a look at the Group 1 folder. If this is the first time you have installed a Group 1 product, you will find that this is the folder that the installation program creates to contain Group 1 applications and their associated files.

Table 1 describes some of the key items that can be found in this folder.

Most of the other files in your AutoDelivery folder pertain to the software GUI. None of these files should be altered in any way.

Working with the AutoDelivery Configuration Interface2

18 Version 1.0.1/June 2008

Overview

During the installation process, you should have set Windows Scheduler to call AutoDelivery at a specified time each day. There is other information that you must provide in order for AutoDelivery to run properly, however. This is where the AutoDelivery dashboard comes into play.

The dashboard serves as a gateway to the configuration interface, where you can enter the required information (such as the databases you wish to check for and your support username and password). It also allows you to directly search for database updates at the push of a button. The dashboard is executed during the installation process, and you may access it at any other time to update your AutoDelivery settings.

This chapter will provide you with everything you need to know about the AutoDelivery dashboard and configuration interface. It covers the following topics:

• Using the AutoDelivery dashboard

• Navigating the configuration interface

• Entering your support username and password

• Entering information for email notifications

• Adding and deleting databases for download

• Setting the download URL and the log level

• Configuring the proxy settings

• Viewing the log

• Changing the download time, date, and frequency settings

• Running AutoDelivery downloads in the background

• Turning off AutoDelivery.

Using the AutoDelivery Dashboard

The AutoDelivery dashboard provides quick-access to the four main AutoDelivery functions.

Figure 1: The AutoDelivery Dashboard

• Check for updates — Click here to initiate a check for available downloads. This is disabled when a download is currently in progress. If you close the dashboard during a download, a message box will appear allowing you to either abort the download and close the interface or continue the download in the background. For more information, see “Running AutoDelivery Downloads in the Background” on page 38.

• Stop processing — Click here to stop a check that is in progress. This is only enabled if the download process has been started.

• Configuration — Click here to access the configuration interface. (For more information, see “Navigating the Configuration Interface” on page 20.)

• Help — Click here to access the product help system.

The progress bar below the row of icons displays information pertaining to the current download activity. It reports the progress of the following:

• Communications with the Group 1 web server

• Backing up of the download directory (optional)

• Downloading the file

• Unzipping the file (optional).

The progress bar will also indicate when an error has occurred. If this is the case, you can click the [...] button next to the bar to access the log, which contains detailed information on your download.

Navigating the Configuration Interface

The configuration interface consists of six main screens on which you will enter and view your information: Credentials, E-mail, Databases, Misc, Proxy, and Log.

Each screen has the same setup, containing the elements below (illustrated in Figure 2):

• Screen title and description — This is the leftmost pane, which provides the title of the selected option pane to the right as well as a brief description of its purpose.

• Option pane — This is the rightmost pane where the user will specify information to be used by AutoDelivery.

• Save/Close buttons — Located at the bottom of the option pane, the [Save] and [Close] buttons allow you to save your changes and close the configuration interface, respectively. If you attempt to close the interface with unsaved changes, you will receive a prompt asking if you want to save.

• Navigation buttons — At the bottom of the left pane, you will see a list of buttons for each screen: [Credentials], [E-mail], [Databases], [Misc], [Proxy], and [Log]. Clicking on any of these will allow you to navigate to that option pane.

• List of viewing options — The arrows located beneath the navigation buttons lead to a drop-down menu listing viewing options for the configuration interface. For more information on these options, see “Viewing Options” on page 22.

Viewing Options

You have several options when it comes to the appearance of the buttons on the configuration interface. The arrows at the bottom of the left pane lead to a drop-down menu listing the following:

• Show More Buttons — Adds buttons back to the screen if they have been removed (this is initially grayed out).

• Show Fewer Buttons — Deletes buttons from the screen.

• Navigation Pane Options — Opens the Navigation Pane Options window.

Clearing a checkbox will remove that button from the screen. You may also change the order of the buttons by highlighting a button and then selecting [Move Up] or [Move Down] to the right. Click [OK] to save your changes or [Cancel] to return to the previous screen without saving.

• Add or Remove Buttons — Leads to a sub-menu where you may select a specific button to add or remove.

Entering Your Support Username and Password

You must provide AutoDelivery with your support username and password in order to access the selected databases for download. If you do not provide this information, you will receive a credentials-related error when you try to run AutoDelivery.

The Credentials screen, which should be the first screen that you see upon opening the configuration interface, allows you to enter this information. You can also access this screen by clicking the [Credentials] button to the bottom left.

When you are finished, you may test your configurations to make sure everything was entered correctly.

Deleting a Database

To delete a database that you have listed for download, highlight that database on the Databases screen and then click Remove Database.

Working with the View Options

AutoDelivery allows you to view your database information in a variety of ways. There are two main views that you can select from: Standard View and Card View. These are available by selecting one of the radio buttons at the top of the screen.

You can also collapse (and then re-expand) these options by clicking the [-]/[+] button next to View Options.

Standard View

The Standard View is the default. This view is essentially a table with one database per row and with the database information provided in columns. You can click on the column names to sort the databases in alphabetical or reverse-alphabetical order based on the category at hand.

Card View

Grouping Information by Category

For both the Standard and Card View, you can drag one of the column headers or cards to the box directly above the listing of databases to view information on only that category. The example below shows the Database Name information.

Figure 10: Dragging a Card

The [+]/[-] buttons next to each entry allow you to expand and collapse the rest of the information for each database.
