Introduction
• Our project deals with “ PLC BASED AUTOMATION OF FUEL OIL PUMP HOUSE ” for Thermal Power station.
• FOPH-Fuel Oil Pump House.
• Plays a vital role in Thermal power plants.

EMR logic
• Electric drives for this application are controlled by Hard-wired logic circuits using the conventional Electro- Mechanical Relays.
• Large number of relays makes the physical wiring more complex.
• Trouble-shooting time becomes more.

Limitations
• These limitations and de-merits are greatly avoided while introducing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• PLC- Programmable Logic Controller.

Reason for adopting PLC
• To reduce the trouble-shooting time and cabling (for control activities) used.
• Control technology-interfaced to PC.
• Even if any fault occurs, it can be easily identified through HMI or SCADA facilities in Real-Time.

Furnace Oil
• Due to low calorific value of lignite, direct ignition is not possible.
• Hence, Furnace oil is used as ignition agent.• From Boiler light-up time to 40MW power
generation, only fuel oil is used in the furnace.• After ensuring required hot condition inside the
furnace (suitable for lignite firing), lignite is pumped into the furnace and parallely oil flow is reduced in steps.
• Lots of electrical drives are used to pump oil to the furnace.

Importance of FOPH
• Keeping fuel oil availability at certain pressure up to the injection point is very essential.
• Oil injection to the furnace will be immediately restored under critical conditions (lignite flow disturbance) to maintain power generation.

Conclusion
• Hence, we would like to conclude that FOPH is one of the important part in Thermal power plants.
• To make effective , safe and cheaper control of drives in Fuel Oil Pump House of Thermal Power Station we employ PLC control.
