The AVBIS 3000P is a completely automated measurement package for injected bottle preforms. The 3000 P incorporates the capabilities and simplicity of the basic AVBIS system into an automated preform measurement tool. The 3000 P is used in measurement applications for large volumes of bottle preforms to establish regular data trends, to check production after mold change-outs and/or qualify new molds. Full mold rounds of preforms can be loaded in a grid array rack. The “pick-and- place” auto-feeder selects a preform from the tray for measurement then returns the preform to the tray after measurements are completed. Technical The AVBIS 3000 P is the largest laboratory system AVID Corporation manufacturers (see specifications on the following page), and shares the same proven optical package with other AVBIS 3000 series variants. The pick-and-place feeder configuration allows up to 192 preforms (larger lot sizes possible) to be automatically handled by the system. Varying tray hole sizes allow for preforms of various finish types and sizes to be accommodated. Measurement setup of the AVBIS 3000 P is similar to other AVBIS 3000 series systems. Feeder setup for individual preform types is simple, requiring only that the operator set the loading positions with the touchscreen motion control setup tools. Precise orientation on the rotary table is eliminated as the system automatically searches for the part centerline and finishes. The 3000 P is designed specifically to handle preforms, however, with some fixture changes the system can handle and measure some bottles in a modified automatic mode (maximum of 8 parts). This flexibility allows manufacturers to perform checks and qualifications on both their injection and blowing lines. Other options include an ID gauge option for measuring neck finish inner diameter (ID), an optional weight scale to perform weight during the measurement routine, and a preform thickness option for detecting bent core pins or resin flow issues. Operation Despite the complex appearance, the AVBIS 3000 P is designed to be simple for untrained operators to use on a daily basis. An operator loads the preforms into the correct grid array in order of cavity number. Different sized arrays can be used to accommodate preforms of varying diameters or varying cavity size. Once loaded, the operator selects the preform program from a touchscreen list, and indicates the number of preforms to be run. The operator can also indicate any blocked-off or unused cavities in the mold that should not be tested. Once setup, the operator presses the “Run” button. The AVBIS 3000 P’s pick-up tool indexes to the first preform in the grid and moves it to the measurement position for vision measurement. Following all vision measurements, the preform can be moved to an optional scale for weight measurement and/or on to an optional thickness measurement system to check for bent core pins. The preform is then returned to its slot in the grid array. The pick-up tool then indexes to the next preform. The AVBIS 3000 P can perform a complete mold qualification on a shot of 144 preforms in under 6 hours, a task that can take a quality team 2-3 days to accomplish with manual measurement techniques and tools. Because of its speed and repeatability/reproducibility, the AVBIS 3000 P is ideal for those manufacturers seeking to reduce downtime during line start-ups and new mold qualifications, or to satisfy CPK / PPK requirements. The consistent measurement technique of the 3000 P also allows operators to monitor, adjust and control production processes when data is sent to SPC software. Due to the layout and configuration of the AVBIS 3000 P, the system is not recommended for frequent high volume bottle measurement. The AVBIS 3000P is a completely automated measurement

Training

In order to ensure successful adoption of the AVBIS 3000 P at the

customer facility, customer attendance of an AVID Corporation

AVBIS training class is a requirement for system delivery. The

customer should select between 1 and 3 measurement experienced

technicians to attend a three-day training class at AVID Corporation

prior to system shipment. Given the nature of the AVBIS 3000 P,

technicians experienced with packaging measurement and

automated instrumentation are generally best users of the system.

Size Note:

The AVBIS 3000 P is a large format laboratory system. All space

constraints (including door clearances for installation) should be

taken into account when expecting delivery of the 3000 P system.
