Introduction & Sample Day-by-Day Itinerary

The Holy Land: In the footsteps of Jesus: If you desire to draw closer to Jesus of Nazareth, come, as we follow in His footsteps. Each day of your pilgrimage you will have time to renew and affirm your faith; to pray and reflect. The Scriptures will come alive as you visit Our Lord's homeland. You will be inspired by the natural beauty of the landscape, in addition to its rich historical heritage It is an encounter that has changed the lives of many pilgrims, an act of faith and prayer. Pilgrims have been traveling to the Holy Land for hundreds of years, and as part of your pilgrimage, we include many of the rich traditions that have evolved over time. The maxim at the entrance to the Church of the Nativity says: “We are hoping that: If you enter here as a tourist, you would exit as a pilgrim. If you enter here as a pil-grim, you would exit as a holier one.” We pray that same will occur when you join 206 Tours pilgrimage.

Day 1, April 2, 2013, Tuesday, Departure from Denver. Depart for your overnight flights to the Holy Land.

Day 2, April 3, 2013, Wednesday, Arrive Tel Aviv , Transfer to Sea of Galilee On arrival in Tel Aviv you will be met and transferred to your hotel on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

Day 3, April 4, 2013, Thursday, Nazareth, Cana Theme: The Annunciation Start the day by driving Nazareth, the site of Mary’s home and the town where Jesus lived as a child. At Nazareth, celebrate Mass in the Basilica of the An-nunciation, and visit the Byzantine Church of St. Joseph and Mary’s Well. Visit the Convent of the Sisters of Nazareth to hear of their work and see the unique excavations uncovered beneath their present compound. In the after-noon visit Cana, where Jesus performed His first miracle at the request of His mother. There, visit the Franciscan chapel where those who wish to can per-form the renewal of their wedding vows. Return to hotel in Galilee.

Day 4, April 5, 2013, Friday, Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee Theme: The Ministry of Christ in the Galilee Visit Mount of Beatitudes, scene of Jesus’ great Sermon on the Mount, and onto the nearby Tabgha, where Jesus fed the crowd of 5,000 and onto the site known as “Peter’s Primacy”. Here, after His resurrection, Jesus met with His disciples and told Peter to “feed my lambs; feed my sheep.” Celebrate Mass in this special place on the Sea of Galilee. A short drive away is Caper-naum, from where Jesus launched his Ministry; see the synagogue which dates to the time of Jesus and the church built over the site of Peter’s home. Enjoy a lunch of St Peter Fish. In the afternoon take an extended boat ride on the Sea of Galilee with time to reflect and for a teaching. Return to Galilee

Day 5, April 6, 2013, Saturday, Mt Tabor Theme: The Transfiguration Today, after breakfast, start the day by hen drive to Mount Tabor, the site of the Transfiguration, with time to reflect on Christ’s Humanity and Divinity, good preparation for the journey to Jerusalem where Jesus was to suffer the crucifixion and resurrection. Mass here will be at the Basilica here designed to represent 3 tents. Lunch will be served at the Monastery prepared by the Monks who live there. Around 3pm head down and leave for a visit to the Jordan River where it emerges from the Sea of Galilee. Return to hotel.

Day 6, April 7, 2013, Sunday, Caesarea Philippi - Dan This morning after breakfast we’ll celebrate Mass enroute to Caesarea Philip-pi and the archaeological site and national park at Dan. Caesarea Philippi was an ancient Roman city located at the southwestern base of Mount Her-mon. The city is mentioned in the gospels of Matthew[1] and Mark.[2]. To-day, the city, now no longer inhabited, is an archaeological site located within the Golan Heights. Return to your hotel in the Galilee for dinner and over-night.

Day 7, April 8, 2013, Monday, Samaria - Jerusalem Theme: Jesus in Samaria After a morning by the lake leave the Galilee heading south through Samaria, a land rich in Old Testament history. Stop for lunch in Sebaste where John the Baptist was buried and see the remains of the Byzantine Church dedicat-ed to him memory. Drive between the twin peaks of Mt Gerizim and Mt Ebal, known in the Old Testament as Mt. Blessing and Mt Cursing. Mt Gerizim is today the home of the few remaining Samaritans. We stop at Jacob‘s Well; hewn out of solid rock and over 100 feet deep. As it is manually dug out it is most certainly the same well mentioned in the Gospel of John. The water at the bottom of the well is fed by flowing water, which is why ancients gave it the name of “living water”. It is at this well that Jesus met the Samaritan wom-an and said to her: "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." Many Pil-grims drink the water from this very well from which Jesus drank. Drive to Taybeh, a Christian village on the edge of the Judean Wilderness. The village is linked to Ephraim, which is where it is thought Jesus and his disciples

sought refuge after the Council of Priests asked for his execution. The village has been a Christian outpost ever since and there you will be able to see an ancient farmers house. In such a house farmers would have lived in and kept their animals in the manger below in the time of Jesus‘ birth. You will be able to celebrate Mass here in the church where local Catholics have practiced their faith for generations. Drive up to Jerusalem, check-in to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 8, April 9, 2013, Tuesday, Jerusalem, Temple Model, Ein Karem , Bethlehem Theme: The Visitation and Nativity Begin the day with a visit to the Second Temple scale model for an overview of Jerusalem as it was at the time of Jesus. A short drive takes us to the vil-lage of Ein Karem, birthplace of John the Baptist, to visit the church that com-memorates his memory. Pray the Mystery of the Rosary on the walk up the hill to the Church of the Visitation. After a break for lunch on our own drive to Bethlehem to see the cave at the Shepherds’ Field. The caves have soot marks of the fires that shepherd’s lit to keep warm while watching over their flocks. Then to Bethlehem, beginning at Manger Square which stands in front of one of the oldest of Christian churches, the Church of the Nativity. Enter the Church and down to the Grotto of the Nativity, which marks the spot of Jesus’ birth. Beneath the Altar, there is a silver star with the Latin inscription: HIC DE VIRGINE MARIA JESUS CHRISTUS NATUS (Here Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary). After Mass at the Church of St. Catherine return to the hotel in Jerusalem.

Day 9, April 10, 2013, Wednesday, Bethany, Jordan Valley, Qumran, Dead Sea Theme: Early Years in Jerusalem, the Wilderness & The Baptism. At the steps of the Southern Wall of the Temple Mount ponder the Presenta-tion of Jesus at the Temple, the finding of Jesus at the Temple and the heal-ing of the blind man at the Temple. See the Western Wall of the Temple Mount then drive down the Jordan Valley to Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Drive through the Judean Wilderness where Jesus spent 40 days fasting. Drive to Jericho, the world’s oldest continuously inhabited city, to view the Mt of Temptation and see an example of a Sycamore Tree. Then to Bethany where He raised Lazarus from the dead. Celebrate Mass here before returning to the hotel.

Day 10, April 11, 2013, Thursday, Jerusalem; Mt of Olives, Gethsemane , Mt. Zion, Western and Southern Wall Theme: Palm Sunday and the Agony in the Garden From the Mount of Olives, take in the panoramic view of Jerusalem. Then to the Pater Noster shrine, where Jesus taught His disciples the Pater Noster — The Lord’s Prayer (Luke 11:1-4). Walking down the Palm Sunday Road stop at the beautiful little church, Dominus Flevit - “The Lord wept.” It was here that Jesus wept over Jerusalem [Luke 19:41]. At Gethsemane reflect on Je-sus’ final night. The Garden contains trees, the roots of which go back to the time of Jesus. Visit the Church of All Nations to pray at the “Rock of Agony,” a section of bedrock identified as the place where Jesus prayed alone in the garden on the night of His arrest. From there, take the route through the Ki-dron Valley along which Jesus was taken as a prisoner to the house of the High Priest Caiaphas where He was interrogated and imprisoned. Now called Peter in Gallicantu (“crowing rooster”), this beautiful Church also commemo-rates Peter’s Denial of Christ, his repentance and then being forgiven by Je-sus. Here we celebrate Mass. After Mass, go up to Mt. Zion to visit the Upper Room, commemorating the Last Supper. Nearby is the Benedictine Church of the Dormition.

Day 11 & 12, April 12 & 13, 2013, Friday & Saturday, Jerusalem: Via Do-lorosa, Holy Sepulchre Emmaus Theme: The Way of the Cross, The Crucifixion, The Resurrection This morning we start the Via Dolorosa (The Way of the Cross) at the Antonia Fortress, where Jesus was condemned to death by Pontius Pilate. From there He was taken through the city to be crucified. The Stations of the Cross lead, through the markets of the Old City to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Here is the site of Calvary and the Tomb of Christ. Celebrate Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. In the afternoon visit Emmaus, where Jesus appeared to the two disciples after the Resurrection. We’ll have dinner prior to transferring to the airport for return flights to Denver. Arrival Denver morning of April 13.

Neither 206 Tours and/or agents of the airlines concerned are to be held responsible for the late arrival of passengers at airports or hotels due to

inclement weather, nor are they to be held liable for payment or any refund for transfers or unused hotel accommodations or meals occasioned by such late arrivals at the hotels holding rooms as confirmed itineraries.

Passengers must bear all such losses or expenses. To guard against unforeseen health or other circumstances, we recommend you purchase our optional travel insurance. 206 Tours is not responsible for circum-

stances beyond its control. In circumstances where trip cancellations resulting from the inability for trip to depart as scheduled, such as cancel-

lations due to acts of war and/or terrorism, war, God, or nature takes place, 206 Tours is not liable for restitution. Though every effort will be made to follow the itinerary, it should be considered as an indication of

the tour, rather than a contract of places to be visited. Occasionally local religious holidays, national days, traffic conditions and other events may necessitate changes in the sequence of visits or the missing of certain

visits. We will have daily mass and strive to be in places as indicated. However, sometimes this is not possible as the site may not be available

for Mass or itinerary changes are forced upon us. In this case an alterna-tive site for Mass will be arranged. SPECIAL MEDICAL CONDITIONS You must report any disability

requiring special attention to 206 Tours at the time of registration for any tour. We make every effort to accommodate disabled passengers by reserving for them wheelchair assistance at airports and handicap accessi-

ble rooms where available, however, we cannot guarantee and are not

responsible for any denial of services by carriers, hotels, restaurants, or other independent suppliers. Be aware that all of our tours are operated

outside the U.S. where the Americans with Disabilities Act is not appli-cable and facilities for disabled individuals are limited. Most transporta-

tion services, including the touring motor coaches, are not equipped with wheelchair ramps or lifts. We regret that we cannot provide individual assistance to any tour participant for walking, dining, while in their room,

on flight, getting on and off motor coaches and other vehicles, or other personal needs. A qualified and physically able companion(s) must accompany travelers who need special assistance. It is the passenger's

responsibility to arrange for such assistance prior to making their reserva-tions. Motorized scooters are unsuitable and impossible to accommodate.

206 Tours is not responsible for any medical condition that occurs prior, during or after the tour. Additionally, airlines are not able to guarantee or provide assistance for disabled travelers including special seating. Preg-

nancy, Breast-Feeding, and Traveling Pregnant women considering international travel should be advised to evaluate the potential problems associated with international travel as well as the quality of medical care

available at the destination and during transit. A pregnant woman is advised to travel with at least one companion; during her pregnancy, her level of comfort may be adversely affected by traveling.

YOUNG TRAVELERS Travelers who are less than 18 years old on the departure date must be accompanied by an adult. Due to heightened

security, many countries have adopted practices to prevent international abductions of children. If a child will be traveling with adults other than the parents or with only one parent, it is recommended that a notarized
