As a Dry Eye specialist, I look for-ward to taking on these challeng-ing cases and am always looking for the next best thing to offer to my patients. Avenova™, from NovaBay Pharmaceuticals is the new kid on the block with an exciting new product. The active ingredient in this revolu-tionary product is Neutrox™, a pure, stable form of hypochlorous acid, the same chemical produced by the body’s white blood cells to combat against infections without developing resistance. Many of my patients have been trying over-the-counter products, which act more as a temporary crutch, do not appear to give continuous relief and are irritating to eyelids. While performing extremely well for my pa-tients with dry eye, either used alone or in combination with other treat-ments, my patients have found it an easy and effective solution for daily lid hygiene. It is a strong preventa-tive measure that may ultimately help keep the ocular surface healthy and comfortable throughout life. I rou-tinely prescribe Avenova for daily use on all of my contact lens wearers and those asymptomatic patients who are developing the early signs of Chronic Dry Eye Syndrome.
