Will the early retirement
trend cause deflation in the
spare parts market?
The introduction of new cost
eff icient generation of aircraft to
the aviation market has had its
impact on all of its segments.
From the carriers’ point of view it
has created the circumstances
under w hich fast f leet renew al
became one of the key factors
of staying in the game. Naturally,
this process had to be
accompanied by the symmetrical
aircraft retirement trend, w hich
has currently reached
unprecedented scale thus
creating new business
opportunities in the aftermarket.
How ever, the positive aspects
of such a trend might be slightly
exaggerated.

Technician training in
emerging markets:
overcoming the challenges
It is no secret that the rapidly
developing economies in Asia
and the Middle East have been
one of the main reasons for the
recent improvements w ithin the
aviation industry - from the
signif icantly grow ing global f leet
to consequently increasing
demand for MRO services.
Nevertheless, the emerging
markets have found themselves
unable to meet their local demand
for qualif ied pilots and technical
personnel as quickly as they
w ould have w anted to, thus
having to hire the right
specialists from abroad. It
seems, though, that the situation
in terms of the appropriately
qualif ied local MRO personnel is
f inally taking a turn for the better.

Though f igures indicate that the
purchasing pow er of
passengers and their confidence
in air transportation is rapidly
restoring, many airlines keep
continuing to experience serious
financial constraints.
Unfortunately, not every carrier
is able to restructure its
operations successfully. As a
result, from the beginning of
2013 already three European
airlines have been forced to shut
dow n their businesses, w ith
several more being on the edge
of bankruptcy. With the
continuously volatile situation in
the market, should pilots be
concerned w ith saving their
employers and how can they
minimize their risks in case of a
carrier’s bankruptcy?
