The Analytics Journey
Descriptive- What's Happened? This is well established and while BI professionals will argue, customers have plenty of good enough choices, several have verticalized. Predictive - What's Likely to Happen? This field has some established players, such as SPSS and SAS. However, now that large sets of data are accessible and digestible it has sparked the explosion of Data Science. Newly available unstructured data has some folks almost seemingly taking a step backward into manually coding and open source with R, Python, etc.
Prescriptive - What are you going to do based on what may happen? Whether it’s advanced decision optimization or cognitive applications to aid decision making in a human capacity, leveraging *all* accessible data to make decisions.

Moving through this Journey – the barriers to success:– Infrastructure Costs– Expensive Rip and Replace– Migrations– Failed Migrations– Fast Evolving Technology and Demands
• Half way through – there’s something better, faster, cheaper• Executive Decisions – MUST BE NIMBLE
Heavy Demand on IT – poor employee satisfaction – Relearn, Retool, Stress – starts to say “No” – Do you blame them?Self Service – Shadow IT – poor data quality, security risksALL SLOWS THE JOURNEY TO THE END VALUE – then all is considering a waste and we’re back to spreadsheets.
