Open Tuesday to Thursday 11.30am to 4.30pm
This month Carla and I popped along to
Alfreton Hall to sample a Sparkling Afternoon
Tea for two and we can’t recommend it highly
enough.
We were greeted upon arrival by Laura and
taken to our table and served with a delicious
glass of bubbles. This allowed us a little time to
take in this beautifully renovated country house
steeped in local history.
When our tea was delivered (see picture below)
we were amazed when we received one each! It
was easy to tell that the sandwiches were
freshly made and the presentation was
exquisite. There were 6 sandwich selections for
each person;
♦ Scottish smoked salmon & caper may-
onnaise
♦ Traditional roast ham
♦ Free range chicken with celery &
almond
♦ Cucumber & cream cheese
♦ English mature cheddar
♦ Egg mayonnaise bridge roll
The cakes were delightful too and I’m not
ashamed to say that when I saw that Carla was
struggling to finish all her cakes...I may have
helped her out somewhat!
It certainly helps that the setting is so beautiful
and serene that it is a little haven away from the
everyday chaos. So next time you are looking
for somewhere to go for lunch, which feels like
you are tucked away in the heart of the peak
district but is actually within 15 minutes of
home, look no further than Alfreton Hall.
It really is such a treat.
Just remember to
phone in advance
and make that
booking because
this best kept
secret is now
out!! Carla enjoying afternoon tea

Hello & Welcome to this months AVV...I don’t know if I dare say this, as I have been saying it for the last couple of editions but I think Spring may have finally sprung!! The front cover is a local picture (I wonder where that is!!) and has been submitted by local photographer, Alec Malbon. For more information on Alec, visit his website...www.alecmalbonphotography.com. We have some new features this month. Carla has been working hard to produce the out & about diary on pages 16 & 17. If you have any groups that you would like included in this, drop Carla an e-mail on the address below. Carla and I have also been out for Afternoon tea and written all about it on page 2...don’t forget to take your voucher, it really is worth a visit. And finally, to celebrate this amazing phenomenon that is the appearance of Spring, Heather from Body & Sole is offering you the chance to WIN a free manicure. All you need to do is answer the questions on page 15 and e-mail them to me and the first name out of the hat on the closing date wins...this really is an offer too good to refuse!! As always, keep sending your community updates, pictures, recipes, walks etc in...if you have a message that you want everybody to know
about, we can shout it out for you!!
See you next month,
Emily

7 mile walk From Ogston Reservoir by Ravensnest Wood This is a tough but attractive walk for you and your dog with some
fantastic views. The route will take around 2 1/2 to 3 hours. There are some steep climbs and descents and the terrain can be muddy and uneven so a
good pair of boots are essential.
1. Park in the free car park off Ogston New Road, near Ogston Sailing Club. Exit the car park and turn right walking a short way up the road before taking a left as the road bends off to the right.
2. AS this road bends off to the left take the public bridleway on your right. After a short way take the clearly signposted stile on your left and follow the path up the side of the field and around to the left.
3. Pass through a metal gate and turn right, walking up the farm track up to and through a farm. Carry straight on, heading for a stone stile and keep ahead.
4. At the end of the field pass through a stone gap on your left and follow the path around the outside of the field. Head down towards a stile and cross a bridge over a small stream.
5. Carry straight ahead uphill on the path alongside the field. At the top of the field pass through two sets of gates and take the path on the right walking up the field with the hedge on your right.
6. At the road Turn left and after 10 me-ters take a footpath stile over s stone stile. Walk up the side of a field and cross a stile into a small wood, following the steep path up the side.
7. Cross a stile into a field and keep straight on with the fence on your right. At end cross a stile and continue along a farm driveway to the road.
8. At the road turn left. After 30 meters take a steep signposted path on your right. At a signpost take the path on right and follow the path as it winds through the nature area, until it meets a car park.
9. Walk right through the car park and turn right onto cold harbour road. Follow the road to T junction and turn right onto the B6014. walk on past the farm on your left and take a signposted path through a gate.

10. Follow the path as it passes through the wood and then exits. Carry on alongside the wood keeping your eye out for a gate on your right. Enter the wood and walk down the steep, stepped path. After exiting the wood head for a gate ahead of you and follow the path that takes you past a house.
11. As it reaches the long driveway turn left onto path marked by posts. Cross a small bridge and turn right onto a road. Carry on along the road until you reach the Miners Arms. Turn right onto another road and then take a left onto Brown Lane.
