Participation in various CA task forces

CA Equipment Manufacturers’ Workshop

• Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania 28 - 29th November 2013.

• Attended by 38 (9 women) participants from 10 countries: Zambia, India, Mozambique, Tanzania, Brazil, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Namibia and Malawi.

• Cutting edge CA research

• Applied CA research

• Unique models of industry-research linkages

oStudy visit to Bangladesh: CA and machinery for scientists and experts from the partner countries, during CASH conference, December 2014oCA is not only for maize

o Entrepreneurial services provision

Field daysIn Kenya

Field day for farmers held in Laikipia county by the FACASI service provider.

KENDAT teamed up with our partners (Bungoma FTC and ATDC, Mabanga) to display FACASI equipment during the Bungoma County Agricultural Show

In Tanzania

Three field days conducted. Total of 500 farmers, NGO staff, machinery importers, local farm implements manufacturers & mechanics attended.

Ethiopia and Zimbabwe organisation of Field days scheduled for 2015.

Outcomes of Field Days

• Increased visibility of FACASI, Development partners and mechanized CA

• Provide opportunities to linking farmers with private sector service providers

• Receive “first impression” feedback from potential users of the technology. ACT is receiving increase enquiries over time – some tracing interests to these events.

Conclusions

• Slow start (not unusual), expected better and wider sharing with the platforms in place and the science evidence documents coming in.

• An increasing number of people are accessing the FACASI information materials and events

• Our mandate is create awareness, influence behavioural change and Convert CA Knowledge into practice. Knowledge Management to provide required information on the “how to” is our next horizon.

Mentoring platforms

• Fund mentoring and training visits from countries such as Australia, India, China or Brazil

– ACIAR: 2 trips per year (Y1, Y2, Y3)

– CIMMYT: 2-3 trips per year (8-10 trips in total)

• Fund exchange visits between Africa and Australia and between Africa and South Asia

– Study tour to Asia (4 professionals per country)

– 1 trip per year and per country

AIM
