The  AYPVC  programme  2014  is  the  second  round  of  proposed  projects  in  Laos,  Vietnam  and   Myanmar.   This   project   aims   to   continue   on   the   successful   completion   of   1st   AYPVC  programme  in  2013  that  was  held  in  Cambodia,  Indonesia  and  Philippines  involving  over  80  volunteers.   The   programme   aims   to   continue   bringing   together   youth   and   young  professionals  from  all  over  ASEAN  together  in  a  platform  to  support  local  communities  with  skills  transfer  and  service  delivery.

Programme:

Country:   Vietnam  [Thua  Thien  Hue  province]

Host  NGO:   -‐  Hearts  for  Hue

http://www.heartsforhue.org/

Hearts   For   Hue   is   a   local   NGO   in   Hue   city,   Vietnam,   working   to  improve  the  quality  of  life  of  Hue’s  resettled  boat  people  in  the  areas  of   health,   education,   sanitation,   environment   and   hygiene  awareness   and   household   economic   development,   with   particular  attention   to   development   of   children.   The  NGO   received   an   award  for   being   the   best   small   NGO   in   Vietnam   in   2014   by   Rockefeller  Foundation  and  Irish  Aid.

Activity  and  Proposed  Focus  Area:

Volunteers  will  be  divided  into  two  groups.  Group  One  will  focus  on  doing   work   around   environmental   sustainability   e.g.   Assessing  environmental   issues   around   the   village   and   proposing   workable  solutions   and   climate   change   mitigation   practices   for   the   locals.  Group   Two  will   focus  on   construction  of   fence   at   a   local   day   care  centre  for  accident  prevention  and  safety  in  week  one  and  move  on  to  support  Group  One  with  project  delivery  in  week  two.

At  the  end  of  the  programme,  volunteers  will  be  expected  to  deliver  a  workshop   for   local   stakeholders   before   departure   (Friday   of   the  second   week).   Both   activities   will   involve   working   in   partnership  with  the  local  communities.

Brief  Overview:   Rapid  economic  growth   in  Vietnam  over   the   last   ten  years,   and   its  associated   industrialisation,   urbanisation,   as   well   as   increased  exploitation  of   natural   resources,   has   created   significant   pressures  for  the  environment.

The   increasing   deterioration   of   environmental   conditions   is  emerging   as   a  barrier   to   growth  and  development.   Climate   change  challenges,   are  multi-‐sectoral   and   not   just   environmental   but   they  often   have   a   shared   environmental   dimension   in   their   causes,  impacts,  or  solutions.

As  such,  AYPVC  will  focus  on  environmental  sustainability,  working  with  the  community  and  young  environmental  activists  to  promote  environmental  awareness  and  sustainable  practices.

AYPVC  will   also   support   a   local   daycare   as  well   by   constructing   a
