Art Gallery Excursion Last Friday, Stage 2 went on an art adventure around Coffs Harbour. We were fortunate enough to tour two local art galleries - The Bunker Cartoon Gallery and the Coffs Harbour Regional Art Gallery. At The Bunker Cartoon Gallery, we viewed the work of Tanya Ackerman, a local artist, who can see sound. Synaesthesia is the formal name for this gift. When she hears music or natural sounds her visual field is populated with a mix of three dimensional and two-dimensional visual imagery. The students were impressed with her vivid paintings of superheroes like Wonderwoman, Batman, The Phantom and Spiderman. At the Coffs Harbour Regional Art Gallery, the Curator Jo gave us a tour of the gallery showing us four different types of art: In the Company of Trees - An Open Response featured small landscape paintings by Kerry Johns in the forests around Canberra and on the NSW south coast. Local artist, Elizabeth Tinker's Cloudscapes Series captured the children with images of clouds and birds. Echoes and Utilities were hand-made fibre and ceramic vessels and forms made by Glen Wilkinson and Timna Taylor. We were also privileged to hear first hand from another local artist, Frances Larder, about her multi-media project Landscape of the Soul. In these quilts she explores the loss and trauma experienced by people of mixed Dutch and Asian descent who were forced to flee their homes due to war, occupation and the Indonesian National Revolution. Boambee received positive feedback about how well behaved and engaged the students were.

Well Done Stage 2!
