Outside of Turin, Italy, lies the largest MARTINI vermouth production facility, a branch of the Bacardi family of spirits. Since 2010, the facility has operated almost exclusively through the use of hydroelectricity and renewable energy sources. The facility has produced vermouth for more than 150 years, and the switch to renewable energy has allowed it to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about one-third for the entire brand. The reduction is equivalent to removing 700 cars from the highway.

MARTINI's switch to hydropower represents a larger Bacardi mission to protect the environment through its Good Spirited sustainability program. Through this program, the company plans to reduce waste in a number of different ways. Through water recycling, Bacardi hopes to reduce usage globaly by 55% by 2017. Other initiatives include the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 55% and the elimination of landfill waste at all production sites by 2022. So far, the company has reduced non-renewable energy use by nearly 30% at sites around the globe.
