Bad news forcity badmintonBADMINTON as a sport is indanger of dying in Darwindue to the loss of its homevenue, Sports House, in Fan-nie Bay as land zoned forcommunity use is now beingrezoned for housing.

This is a retrograde stepbecause as the populationgrows, there is a greater needfor healthy, active sportssuch as badminton.

Sports House has been thehome of badminton for morethan 30 years and is usedseven days a week by jun-iors, social groups and byhigh grade players duringmornings and evenings.

I first played badminton atSports House in 1983 and Iam still actively playing atthe age of 80-plus.

It is a wonderful sport for

all ages from five to 85. Thereis a very active group ofmature age players who haverecently competed success-fully interstate.

Badminton is particularlygood in maintaining healthas we age, being beneficialfor balance, concentration,cardio health and for oursocial wellbeing.

It will be a devastating lossto our community if a sportis allowed to die.

Not all funding should goto the big sports. Smallersports should be get a fair go.We are a capital city and allsports should be encouraged.

Please support our questfor a new venue.
